The Homestar Runner page has 34 references
Cool. You've proved that 34 people on the internet have heard of it. Only a billion to go

I only know of Homestar Runner and Strong Bad from your references to them here. Never heard of Trogdor the Burninator.

The vast majority of my tweets use less than 26 characters....of course, some characters may be repeated...

Yeah we all watched them back in like 2003 when they were being made, then all forgot about them when they stopped being made.

get rid of the hate speech and Nazis
Who defines those two things?
-
@xaade Oh you're trying to make this into a political debate. How cute.
People just want Twitter to show a basic level of competence and consistency when enforcing their own rules. The specifics of that are up to them.

@coderpatsy said in Nobody running Twitter uses Twitter:
I don't get why they have a temporary mute option for words, but not for accounts.
Is it just me, or does Twitter already have a mute option for accounts. It stops all notifications from the account.
Maybe you're wanting the tweets to be invisible like with the block option?
-

I'm not trying to be political here.
Point being, it'll be a never ending complaint, from someone.
For some, a Nazi is whoever says they are a Nazi.
For others, a Nazi is whoever says anything without recognizing white privilege, which is a neverending list. And that's where it's easy to define.
Hate speech... is even worse.
People can want this all they want, but it's not going to satisfy them.
-
@xaade "competence" could include admitting the problem is beyond them and removing that language from their rules.
Whatever.
The point is: what they're doing now sucks and nobody likes it except the Nazis.

Or clearly defining the terms.

No I (and I assume blakeyrat) know about account mutes. What he wants is a way to mute an account, but for a given amount of time less than infinity. Like they have for word mutes already.

I'd also like the ability to set people in my feed as "summarize mode", where it'll only send me one "tweet" from them a day but it'll be a special tweet I could click to expand out and see his whole day's tweeting.
There's some spammy motherfuckers I've had to stop following just because they post WAY TOO OFTEN but I'd like keep up with. Twitter has no solution for that problem, either.
The temporary mute thing is easier to code, though. Twitter could do it in 10 lines of JS if they gave a fuck.

It's been a couple days but both their front page and Tweetdeck (official app by Twitter) still have the 140 character limit. How friggin hard is it to update your websites Twitter?
Of course there are basic browser hacks to fix Twitter's usual consistency.

it's a staged rollout. That just means your account hasn't gotten it yet.
(But yeah, the Twitter.com rollout is done on the client side, so you can easily bypass it.)

I didn't.
Some day soon I'm going to watch them for the first time, and then come to this forum and repeat all the funny parts even though you don't care about them anymore, and there's nothing you can do to stop me. BWAHAHAHA.

The "name certified" process to actually work.

Let's look at the EXTENSIVE DOCUMENTATION:
An account may be verified if it is determined to be an account of public interest. Typically this includes accounts maintained by users in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other key interest areas.
(Yes, that is the entirety of the documentation).
Strong Bad is of public interest and fits into the following categories: music, acting, media, and other key interest areas.
Is there a single person on the internet who hasn't heard of Homestar Runner, Strong Bad, or Trogdor the Burninator?
I see references to Homestar Runner when Google decides that I didn't want to find what I was looking for (or, more accurately, that I didn't want to look for what I was looking for), and throws random shit in my search results. That's all I know about it.
Guild Wars 2 has a legendary torch called Rodgort, and it's claimed to be a reference to something called Trogdor (but spelled backwards, duh). (Although it is "legendary", it is also very much a real thing in the game, and with enough of the right kind of persistence, some of which can be mitigated if the Mistress of Pain(1) is in a good mood, you can make one for yourself.)
But "Strong Bad" is something I've never heard of. It sort of made me think of Nogbad the Bad, but that's as close as it gets.
(1) You probably know her as the goddess Fortuna, or even her modern incarnation, Lady Luck. She did smile on me about one legendary weapon, but it wasn't Rodgort.

Those of us who are fond of the works of Terry Pratchett will tend to think of her as The Lady, and will fervently hope she looks away from us.
-
@thegoryone Well then you can just gloss over or ignore threads like this one and not interrupt the rest of us who do care.

I stopped following SwiftOnSecurity and a few others because of this. Just, too many damn tweets. I can't have my entire feed turn into one user's personal drama (especially when they get into some narrow issue, eg. politics).
Also, when I go to someone's account, I want to see their top 100 tweets by the number of retweets or stars/likes. Currently, each account is only as good as their 20 most recent tweets. Even the most legendary tweet quickly disappears into the mist of time, unless the person doesn't go out of their way to keep retweeting it (which always feels kind of pathetic).
-
@cartman82 KCGreen (the guy who drew the "this is fine" dog burning up comic) is a super-funny guy, but he tweets like 30,000 times a day. Or at least used to, since I had to unfollow him I don't know anymore.
I don't regret at all learning that he renamed chicken nuggets are "chicky nugs", because that's hilarious, but goddamned think of all the other hilarious shit I'm missing right now because Twitter's UI is awful.
-
Not sure if this is related to the Double-Length Twitterpocalypse, but I am assuming so because it
was from just a few days ago.EDIT: Oops.

You really would think that would have been put before upping the character limit.

Indeed. That thought was, indeed, on my mind as well, but I prefer not to even think about her. I read what the Great Man wrote about her, and a practice of mostly ignoring her existence seems best. You have to acknowledge her existence, but you don't have to pay much attention to it. More to the point, you have to not pay much attention to it.

With tall images it usually cuts off the image and places a scrollbar to see it all. It didn't this time but it is what I assumed would happen. Because OneBox is shit, we really should use something else.
