@rhywden I'm actually kind of amazed that Microsoft hasn't tried making a cheaper Surface Hub for schools as far as I know. Their pen support is famously good.
I think Promethean fell into the pothole of: "How do we make it cross-platform? I know, let's use HTML5!"
Because several of the issues and limitations have a clear source in browser limitations - for example, the missing ability to simply drop in a picture through copy&paste (like I can do with Smarttech) is no real wonder if you keep that in mind.
Not that there aren't workarounds - but some stuff simply is done easier with a real desktop app.
-
@rhywden The thing is, I feel like just about any company could sell a giant touch screen, and while the digitizer is expensive, I still feel like someone could get significantly below Microsoft's $9k for a Windows-powered smart display for education.

All you idiots who were like "I never saw Windows warning me I needed to reboot before it actually rebooted!" have made the new update system really irritating. Now it dims your entire screen and puts up a huge blue panel in the center saying "choose a time to reboot you asshole".
Well maybe you myopic motherfuckers won't miss this one. Although I guess your illiteracy would still make you unable to read it.
I've never seen that but I have seen a notification that shows up in the list of read notifications (but never in the list of unread notifications) saying that my computer will reboot when I'm not using it (even though it doesn't reboot until I manually reboot it).
My computer waited literally for the moment I locked the screen after "working hours". I pressed +L, and instead of a stupid picture I was greeted with "restarting..."

Wish mine would... I started the update to build 16291 at 9a. It's now after 3p and it's only 78% installed. VMs on external drives suck. (And it's an SSD on USB3 with QuickRemoval turned off and write caching on)

Hosting provider: "We have configured the new iRule for all of your URLs."
: "Okay, well all of our URLs are down now, so... did you think to check that after you reconfigured them, or..."I swear I think I'm going to have to set up a trial F5 on AWS or something and figure out what this iRule should be.
It's incredible that for the amount of money we're paying this hosting provider, they're giving us no help with this. I don't know how I'm going to be able to stay on a call with them tomorrow and not lose my God damn temper. I asked their F5 SME to help, they looked at the rule and signed off on it, and now they go "Uh, there are errors in the console; your rule doesn't work." THANKS. No shit; I just cobbled it together from DevCentral forum posts. I was hoping you could help fix it if there were an issue with it.

I will ruin this world with my anger.

Done, but now I'm stuck with a permanently un-mergable file, because in the branch there was apparently no
.p4ignore.txt
file that prevented adding crap in /bin and /obj folders, so on accident/obj/Debug/TemporaryGeneratedFile_036C0B5B-1481-4323-8D20-8F5ADCB23D92.cs
got submitted into the depot. To make matters worse, this file was marked as "Move" from/packages/Microsoft.Bcl.1.1.10/lib/monoandroid/_._
(so in other words, "move unrelated file to OBJ folder", which worked fine because the .p4ignore.txt file wasn't there to stop such shenanigans). When merging this back, the .p4ignore.txt file applies and BREAKS the merge, since a Move operation is actually a "Delete this, and then Add this" pair of changes, and since it can't "Add" the file to the OBJ folder (due to the rules), I know have a broken changelist that looks like this:
(There should be one row with theX
, for delete, and one row with a+
for add)I can't revert the file, because the target file doesn't exist on the client (aka it's not there to "un-move" it from):
//UE4/main/Tools/HypatiaMasterServer/HypatiaMasterServer/obj/Debug/TemporaryGeneratedFile_036C0B5B-1481-4323-8D20-8F5ADCB23D92.cs - file(s) not opened on this client.

Nope, just had to use the FSCKING COMMAND LINE. Merely telling the commandline version of the perforce client to do the exact same thing as on the GUI, somehow that worked.

@tsaukpaetra Or get the admin to
obliterate
those files that never should have gone in there...That's the problem: I had done that. They're no longer there (and, in theory, doing the Copy Up would not suggest that change anymore) but since the change was opened any depot modifications would take effect after the changelist was submitted (if I'm reading the docs correctly).
The problem was that an "impossible" situation had occurred.
