Me: "I'm going to play the cat game in this next meeting." [It's only Tuesday and I've already lost my God damn mind.]
PM : "The one where you say 'meow' instead of 'now'?"
Me: "Yeah, my record is seven, but then I usually don't speak up very much and it's hard to fit it in."
PM : "Yeah, so there's an SES in this one?"
Me: "I am not going to play the cat game in this next meeting."PMs always ruin my fun.

Status: I feel old for a dumb reason, despite being way too young to feel that way, because of a thought that just went through my head.
Good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see - a line which is probably meaningless to a lot of people now.

Probably not. But he might...

Status: After having been able to compare a console FPS to a PC FPS directly (i.e. Destiny 2 on PS4 versa the beta on PC), I got really fed up with the controller controls last week due to not being able to use Keyboard and Mouse.
After a bit of research, it turned out that all the somewhat cheap-ish adapter solutions which offer keyboard and mouse got at least 50% "meh"-ratings which made them highly suspect. But there was a more expensive solution which also got pretty good reviews.
So I splurged a little and got a Xim4 - it's a little device for 160โฌ which you plug into the PS4 and then also connect keyboard, mouse and a controller to it (the latter one probably due to DRM shenanigans or something).
Turns out: That thing actually works - you need to fiddle a bit with the settings (for example, a 1.25 ratio of y-to-x-movement is quite nice because it compensates for the recoil which makes your gun wander up) but when you found something that works for you, it's great.
You can also create different settings which are e.g. triggered by holding down a key - so normal movement gets these settings while aiming down the sights (for which you press L2 (or right mouse in this case)) gets those settings.
Also, macros. All in all a good investment.

A fun song to be sure. Don't recall all the lyrics though...

I have the Xim 2 (two of them, actually). They come in handy for sure.

I actually do. Was a bit rusty on some but managed to get it all without rewatching the video when I was reminded of the song a few months back

Status: While playing around with glitches in GTA 3, I managed to permanently break the taxi driver side-mission. Vigilante and paramedic side-missions still work, but taxis just act like ordinary vehicles, even after exiting the game.
It goes back to normal after starting a new game, and presumably if I had a clean save it would work there, but since I'm a genius, I saved the corrupted version over the good file.

Could be worse. Most trash fires are noxious (or toxic). Still not good, though.

Ministry of the Environment is on site to assess the smoke and water runoff.
No evacuation order yet. I'm HOPING that if there was any chance it would be toxic, they would have shut down the area last night when the fire started-- rather than waiting 12+ hours, and for the business day to start.

Inhaling fumes from overheated electronics and plastic ain't exactly healthy...

Yeah, or maybe your boss wants to kill the business by killing the workers. Darn Canadians.
@anotherusername True. Very true.

Stupid race condition only occurs on more modern systems that are fast enough to get one of the threads back into being ready to fire before the other catches up doing its workโฆ

That's what happens when employers can't just fire their employees at will

All you idiots who were like "I never saw Windows warning me I needed to reboot before it actually rebooted!" have made the new update system really irritating. Now it dims your entire screen and puts up a huge blue panel in the center saying "choose a time to reboot you asshole".
Well maybe you myopic motherfuckers won't miss this one. Although I guess your illiteracy would still make you unable to read it.

Email received late yesterday afternoon, 4 minutes before I quit for the day:
My computer is not working
That's all.
This morning:
I need my computer fixed please
And yes, both emails were sent from the computer that is not working.
I guess I should probably go find out what the problem is, though...
edit: it was one of those problems where an internal website wasn't working but randomly started working 5 minutes after the computer genius showed up. (I did, however, actually see it not working for those first 5 minutes.) ยฏ\(ยฐ_o)/ยฏ

Status: We're currently evaluating current-gen Promethean smart whiteboards and Smarttech whiteboards.
The latter ones we had for the longest time time - or at least the software, the current-gen is basically a huge monitor (while all our other ones are the projector mounted above whitescreen with IR capture for touch). So, those are pretty much a known figure - not great on the collaborative tools but the actual "write on display" does what it should.
Then I gave Promethean a try this week because their collaborative tools look nice - create ad-hoc questions, send those to the pupils and then collect answers. Even creative questions are possible - like: "Draw a flower" or something. Also, crossword puzzles, word associations and stuff.
However, the end I have to use has some ... issues. So many issues, in fact, that I just wrote them, listed those issues and strongly hinted that hiring a real UI/UX professional might not be a bad thing.
For instance: When you prepare a lesson (which you need to do if you want to use images - because importing images on the fly during a lesson does not work) you can add questions to a slide (which you then can send easily to the pupils). Emphasis on "add".
Because I wasn't able to figure out how to remove questions again. I also wasn't able to figure out how to see which question belongs to which slide.Stuff like that. And if I myself have problems figuring this stuff out then you can bet the house that my colleagues will be completely dead in the water.

I've never seen that but I have seen a notification that shows up in the list of read notifications (but never in the list of unread notifications) saying that my computer will reboot when I'm not using it (even though it doesn't reboot until I manually reboot it).

@rhywden I'm actually kind of amazed that Microsoft hasn't tried making a cheaper Surface Hub for schools as far as I know. Their pen support is famously good.
