I had a great uncle who worked for Boeing from mid 1940's until late 1960's. Most of his work was on pneumatics for various aircraft..... Amazing stories he told...

My granddad helped design and test the rocket engines for the Apollo
Space ShuttlesProgram* during the period where we raced the Russians to the moon. Their engine work was also used in the B-47, F-15, and F-16s.
edit: Also the F-22 Raptor, the Joint Strike Fighter, the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, the Pratt & Whitney 4000 series engines for the Boeing 777 and F-119 engines for the F-22 and Joint Strike Fighter, the Boeing 747 and 767 and the RL-10 rocket engine.Check and Mate.

I think I know what you mean, but since nothing called "the Apollo Space Shuttles" ever existed this makes me think your granddad wrote bad sci-fi novels. Apollo program was never involved with anything that could be called a "shuttle". ("Command module", sure, "lunar lander", right, but "shuttle?")
