The arrow keys still are fucked up for navigation
-
95.67% of the time (give or take X%), if I'm trying to scroll through a thread with the up/down arrow keys, instead what happens is I don't navigate and instead lose my spot.
Why? Because still (let me re-iterate-- STILL, this has been happening since day fucking one)-- at random, either the category link button on the very top, or some random link on the bottom, will have focus.
Sometimes the pgup/pgdn keys work, sometimes they don't. But it's always navigating by up/down arrow that fucks up. The buttons have focus, so instead of scrolling, it jumps the page to the category widget.
For fuck's sake, can we PLEASE fix this shit already? It always bites me, and fucks up my spot in the page. Either I have to hope I scroll back fast enough to catch the .highlight effect, or remember some unique part of the post I was reading to ctrl-f it.

page up/down on laptop > plugging in and dangling a mouse around every where you take it.

@pie_flavor so now i've got a laptop and a mouse that i have to carry separately around the house? that actually sounds worse.

If you've got a laptop, then you either use the touchpad and have two-finger scroll available, or you are already using a mouse because you hate touchpads.
I'm struggling to see the problem here.

i use page up/down because it's already on the laptop and doesn't involve using a mouse or the shitty touchpad. easy.

In the event I don't have my handy mouse, I use the touchpad because it doesn't jump the entire page and it doesn't take a full second to start moving and it doesn't move at a fixed rate.
-
@pie_flavor your page up/down keys are weird. mine just happen to scroll teh page up or down by 1 page.
i have no idea how @Lorne-Kates is having random buttons get focus though. Never had that problem myself.

I was talking about both page up and down and the arrow keys at the same time.

Unless for some reason your touchpad hates you and randomly stops working as a touchpad. Most times I forget I can use two fingers to scroll and can tap to click...

That's because a discodev like you is literally incapable of understanding a useability problem that doesn't immediately effect their exact custom setup.
Here's a hint. When laying on the couch, using the touchpad requires putting your arm in a bent, non-rsi friendly position. That's fine if all your doing is the occasional scroll or navigation. But if I'm reading a long thread, with fits and spurts of scrolling between reading, then either I need to keep moving my arm from comfortable at rest to the touchpad over and over... Or I need to keep my arm in an uncomfortable position hovered over the touchpad (but not touching it).
Or... I can keep my arm rested comfortably beside me on a rest (pillow, whatever), with my hand resting on the arrow/page keys. They're on the edge of the keyboard, so my arm is straight. Keys aren't touch sensitive, so I can rest on them.
And that is why you're a Discodev
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The arrow keys still are fucked up for navigation:
s it user error if you make that gesture and it doesn't work? Fuck you.
But gestures, like selecting text on mobile, ALWAYS work, except when they don't, according to @pie_flavor . Just like when I tried to select your text to quote, the first four attempts at a long press just scrolled the page a few pixels instead. And the fifth time finally did activate the text select ui... But on the wrong line instead of the first word of the sentence, so I still had to manually adjust the start and end point.
Fucking Discodev

Yeah, I dread the day when I degrade too much and can't keep my finger accurately at micrometer precision...

Who's talking about exact custom setup now? That's what I have the specific mouse I took a picture of for - so I can just put my hand wherever the hell I want, and not even need a mousepad. Most of the at-home computing I do is on my bed.

I've done that, what, twice? Since I bought my phone? The trick is to, y'know, not move your finger during the long-tap, and, y'know, tap the right location.
In the Android thread, you're saying I can't complain about being forced to do the minimal amount of effort, and now you're complaining about being forced to do the minimal amount of effort.

You are, when you again bring up using a mouse on a laptop in order to work around a bug in software. You are a shitty developer, but I guess that's why you make a good Discodev.
How the fuck do I add more quotes on mobile? There's no way to minimize the composer? Fuck this piece of shit forum.
some dumb drivel about "you're holding the phone wrong"
Yup, there's the Discodev speaking again. "It always works perfectly 100% of the time, except when it didn't, so that must be your fault"
Bullshit on your bullshit claim. Post a video of you activating text select perfectly (called shots only) 100 times in a row, and maybe it will hold some merit.

I use a mouse on a laptop because touchscreens are annoying and touchpads are worse.

Ah, now that's the correct question!
Realistically, it's PITA. But, if you'reinsanestubborn enough to actually do it, it involves the following:- Make your first part of the quoted reply.
- Select all the text in the composer, and cut it into the clipboard.
- Dismis the composer (Yes, you're sure you want to discard this post).
- Select-
quoteReply again, but before typing, sniggle your cursor to the beginning and paste the clipboard at the top. - Repeat 0 through 0 until your post is composed.
- Pray you didn't mess up the formatting.

The fact that you're so clueless about ui that you don't even know why this is faulty thinking is EXACTLY the sort of shit that gives you away as a Discodev.

Nope. It's the forum.

Tagging to pull this out of the shitspiral.
Repro steps:
- Navigate to a topic
- Reply to the topic
- After posting the reply, press UP arrow key
- The category widget is now "focused" insomuch as it has the dotted line around it, I can't identify if it's the
li
or thea
, and I'm out of time for troubleshooting with element inspector.
Note: Pressing DOWN instead of UP jumps the page to the bottom, presumably "focusing" onto some element at the bottom of the page-- but there's no dotten line to identify which one.

Attempting repro on Chrome for gitts and shiggles. Used selected text reply button, submitting with Ctrl-Enter
Edit: Nope. :(

Using only keyboard, selected the topic reply button using tab (took a while), activated with Enter. Now submitting with Ctrl-Enter...
Edit: Nope, though I noticed that the post-level menu dots don't allow you to use the keyboard to select Edit/Delete right off the bat, I have to jigger it back and forth tabbing (It seems that that section and the rest of the post options are two separate containers?).

All mouse reply to topic (except for typing this)
