Whatever this game is, it's a master of the art of making you grind. Do you still enjoy it?

It's too bad tempests can't use greatswords.

Yes. It's not as grindy as you might think. First off, resource nodes are instanced, so you never have to fight other players for them. That alone is probably almost enough reason to switch from WoW.
Second, I actually like taking the scenic route. I don't actually grind mat farming much--I get most of what I need from simply wandering the map looking for events and whatnot. (This weapon--a high-end, entirely optional one--will require a decent amount of farming. But notice "high-end" and "entirely optional.")

Every single weapon my necromancer has costs 30 (total), so I'm not sure where you got 61 from.

BTW the new collapsible prereq tree on that site is really nice.
-
@FrostCat wait, your first item you're going for is a legendary? You are crazy.
-
@ben_lubar said in ๐The cupcake thread of celebrations.:

I have made a bunch of exotic stuff, so it's not the first item.
@ben_lubar said in ๐The cupcake thread of celebrations.:

The guy who wrote a Dorf Fortress AI says this. I don't know if I should be impressed or what.
-
@FrostCat My advice: make an ascended item. It has the same stats as legendary, but it's orders of magnitude cheaper.
-
@ben_lubar said in ๐The cupcake thread of celebrations.:

But they don't do the pretty footstep trail stuff, do they? Animaeve needs her firey trail.
-
@FrostCat do you have world completion? You'll need it as one of the steps for making Incinerator.
-
@ben_lubar Not yet. But since I have 58 days of items to make I have time. (Last night Deldrimor Steel Ingots were 8g on Black Lion, so I probably won't buy many/any.)
-
@FrostCat the cooldown is on mithrillium, not the ingots, so you can just get enough mithril to make one a day and worry about the rest of the ingredients later.
-
@ben_lubar said in ๐The cupcake thread of celebrations.:

I thought so, but wasn't too sure. In any event since I need the mithrillium to make the ingots, it doesn't matter too much which one's the blocking item.
GW2 Efficiency says I'll need 40 stacks of mithril. I don't remember if that includes items I've already made.
-
@FrostCat if you give it an API key, you can set it to count the items you already have at the top of the calculator page.
-
@ben_lubar said in ๐The cupcake thread of celebrations.:

I set up a key a while ago. I just don't remember when I looked at it a while ago, whether I had it set to count items or not, and I don't feel like going back to check right now.

So many conversation not about celebrating things.
@mods Request for jeffing the weaponz plz?
-
@FrostCat This is basically why I went through the trouble of getting Bifrost rather than an ascended weapon.
-
@ben_lubar That's odd, I thought I had. Fixed now.
-
@Fox said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Just looking at the wiki page, that seems like it'd cost significantly more (just in gold terms) than Incinerator. Or did you mean it doesn't have a 61-day-long prereq tree?
-
Also, props to whoever named this topic. Well, prop, anyway.
-
@FrostCat I meant I wanted shiny effects. But yes, it does cost more, though without 61 days worth of cooldowns.
-
@Fox @FrostCat you don't need to do the collections if you get the precursor in a different way. The gift of fortune still costs more than 600 gold, though.
-
@ben_lubar Oh, yeah, I bought the precursor off the trading post.
I got Bifrost before HoT came out.
-
@Fox I have all the aquatic precursors from the collections and I've finished all the T1 collections except for Sunrise, but I'm probably never going to get any further than that since I can't fathom having to spend so much on even the first precursor that immediately gets salvaged.
I have 4 gifts of mastery and a gift of maguuma, but holy shit gift of fortune/mystic tribute is expensive.
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:

You mean, spamming Zommoros with level 80 exotics?
I'll work on the rest of the build first, probably, and then see what happens as I get closer. I see I have to get a rare (?) drop from a lot of the world bosses, too, in addition to a crapload of other stuff.
I haven't unlocked Vol. II yet anyway, so I know I have a long way to go, but I'm working on this around other stuff.
-
@FrostCat I suggest going for Occam's Razor first, because it's cool and has a glowy effect.
-
@ben_lubar That's the razor variant I had decided on.
-
@FrostCat I guessed that from your existing exotic items.
-
@ben_lubar Plus, the name.
-
Also, I can't get my enchanted map to work. The key isn't appearing.
-

You can only do it once per account.
-
@FrostCat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Oh, yeah, I burned over 100g buying exotics trying that before I bought the precursor, too.

@Fox it's not called the mystic toilet for nothing!
-
@ben_lubar Oh, I know.
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:

I knew that--I had forgotten I'd already gotten the key.
-
-
@FrostCat I got the Dredge Building Materials last night, but I haven't high a high enough fractal level to do the last two instances--all the groups I joined were doing like level 5. I might have to start my own group in LFG, I guess, if I don't get lucky tonight.
In between, I worked on raising Artificing and Weaponsmithing so I can make ascended gear.
-
@FrostCat It's probably just as cheap to save the gold and buy Spark from the trading post, rather than do the Deldrimor Steel components and such for the precursor quest chain.
They tried to balance the precursor quest chain costs so they'd be roughly equal to the "buy one someone got lucky with" for the first generation legendaries. They didn't account sufficiently for the amount of market fuckery that was going to happen after the expansion, so they mostly overshot the quest chain costs, and are basically just going to wait for things to balance out naturally (read: do sweet fuk all)
-
@Fox @FrostCat
You can also throw in dungeon token exotics. Which has the added bonus of making you gold you can use for the other parts of the legendary (aka the gift of fortune). So you can do Citadel of Flame, Crucible of Eternity, Honor of the Waves (eew), and Arah (ha ha ha) explorable paths, and then convert 210-390 tokens into one exotic (depending on weapon you're going for -- Spark is 300 tokens per exotic = 1200 tokens for the first flush and 900 thereafter).Of course, I noticed that using all "named Exotics" (e.g. a specific name, and not Berserker's Super Dagger of Awesomeness or the dungeon daggers) seemed to have a higher chance of returning a "named" Exotic from the forge. But that could easily be small sample size Olympics too. But my theory (and I had seen some other fan sites speculating the same when I started doing it) was that Spark counts as a "named" Exotic and that your chances were thus better using the cheapest named Exotics you could get your hands on (which was around 2.5g per dagger back when I was trying).
-
Spark is 969g on TP right now.
-
@izzion said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Otherwise known as, "multiple dungeon Gifts worth of tokens per attempt."
Which means probably hundreds of dungeon runs before you get the precursor you're after.

Eh, you can get 300 tokens in less than an hour for CoF or CoE (assuming the hold event timing is in your favor), and every 8 distinct paths you run give you an additional 150 tokens of your choice (so hold your nose and do 2 HoTW paths in about an hour). Boom, now you have 3-4 hours in, you've earned 10 gold and a bunch of trash loot (aka crafting mats), and 3 pieces to flush down the toilet.
Basically one flush a night. Sure, it's a bit grindy, but if you're going for a legendary, it's not because you're expecting to get it at the rate of D3 loot.

It costs 662g right now to craft it, so do you value a few months of your time at 300g or not?
-
@ben_lubar said in Gilled Horse Chew:

GW2 Efficiency says 434g.
Huh, and it looks like a huge chunk of that is the Deldrimor ingots.
-
@FrostCat does that include the collections themselves or only the three stages of precursor?
-
-
@blakeyrat Sadly, it looks like no. Also, it's lame that that picture doesn't use the real Chekhov.
