My point is that ford focus has really shitty acceleration.
Have you tried downshifting?
In an automatic?
Some autos are fitted with a kickdown button

I was more ing about how Europeans still use manual transmissions in their cars, especially smaller ones.

It's "an" before vowel sounds, not just vowels-when-written.
The (mostly) American “an herb” and “an historic” always feel strange to me — the former also when spoken.

Some Americans do too.

Kick down (where fitted) typically involves flooring the accelerator. You don't need it to make the gearbox change down, just an automatic gearbox that isn't completely retarded.

Yeah, but @dangeRuss was driving a Ford.

To be fair most Europeans buy small European cars because they're cheap, and fitting a decent automatic gearbox makes them less cheap. This results in most manufacturers fitting the sort of dreadful automatic that you'd get in a Peugeot, which most people correctly judge as terrible then buy a manual.

And some people (like me) would buy a manual even if it was more expensive

I got a ticket going 86 in a 65 in a ford focus.
"But ocifer, it's a FOCUS!"
dismisses ticket. E_NOT_POSSIBLE(edit: fixed typos)

“an historic”
You’re right, I confused their origins. In any case they both look strange to me because AFAIC the H isn’t silent.

It usually is in herb in American English.
It was the standard in all English up until the 19th century when people in Britain started thinking of dropped H's as a lower class thing, so lots oh silent H words gained a sound

I know, that’s why I mentioned it :) This is really one of those cases where English could use a little more consistency: either make all Hs before vowels silent, or none of them. But then, maybe that’s easy for me to say as a speaker of a dialect in which the former is done, of a language which does the latter.

You should try French

What, like Le Havre instead of L'Havre?
-
@lolwhat More like, almost every rule got a list of exceptions.
Ex.: words ending in "ou" takes an s when plural, except
bijou, caillou, chou, genou, hibou, joujou, pou which takes an x.Also, words ending in "eu" takes an x when plural, except
bleu, pneu, lieu which takes an s
-
@TimeBandit True. Still, if you want consistency in a language, you'll need to go with Esperanto (or Lojban).
-
@lolwhat Sure, but then you'd have Esperanto or Lojban on you.
-
@lolwhat Or Pascal
