@RaceProUK As long as T-Com doesn't get into the game and asks someone to paint the car that eye-searing magenta colour I'm good :P

@r10pez10 Madmen who build high speed bandsaws out of plywood and bicycle inner tubes are the kind of madmen we need more of.

Status: I was just checking the tracking on some packages that I have coming in and this thought process occurred:
-checks USPS tracking number-
"Fucking hell, the USPS has the most worthless tracking system in history. Total rubbish. It would be impossible to make any parcel tracking system that was worse than this."
-checks DHL tracking number-
-remembers that DHL tracking only works about half the time-
"OK, I was obviously wrong on that last thought."
USPS tracking is a special animal.
First, it's not a tracking system. It's got ~90 different service levels with varying amounts of "when they scan". More scans costs mo money.
Second, the usual shipping vendor workflow is like this:
- Submit API request with a bunch of data about the package.
- Get back tracking number
- Print label
- Whack it on the box
With the USPS, it's as follows
0) Do a bunch of beforehand setup- Literally make up the tracking number based upon USPS guidelines
2)Guarantee the uniqueness of the tracking number in your own way. - Print label
- Whack it on the box
- Send a manifest file to the USPS via SFTP
Uniqueness problems, generating the tracking number out-of-spec, not actually sending the manifest file, issues with bullshit homegrown processes not correctly matching the manifest file to the label, the package physically arriving at the post office before the manifest file is loaded etc. can all cause the USPS system to, while they deliver the package, not update tracking properly.
Plus, chances are high that the level of service chosen by the mailer is rather low.

No, I don't know which
is the biggest in this story, why do you ask?
Java. Yes, I know your story didn't have any mention of Java... I'm still blaming Java...

the updated one was loading Java just fine but the applet wouldn't load
HA!!! I was right.

What the actual fuck.
Yet another example of how remarkably proficient the government is at fucking things up.

@anotherusername The best part of that manifest file is that you have to tell them how much postage to deduct from your account for each piece.
Which you have to calculate on your end using rate tables you make up from rumor, insinuation and human readable glossy update publications.
You also tell them the perinents used to calculate said postage.
They check your calculations and will reject the file if you're wrong.
You know, instead of calculating it for you and just telling you what it costs.
Why, yes, I'm building a system that does this shit right now. Their awful spec PDF is open on one of my monitors.

@Jaloopa If that was to work I would have to inherit System.Web.Http.ApiController ... wait a sec ...
public abstract class CuntController : ApiController { protected internal Proper<T> Ok<T>(T content) { return Ok(content); } }
Disclaimer : I am not sure if that will compile

Status:
Working on an MVC project involving vehicle details. Part of the information on a vehicle is its make and model, which I've encapsulated into another class, with a field in the vehicle details called Model
In MVC views, the default lambda variable it scaffolds for you is called
model
, so the code to list vehicles includes this wonderful line@Html.DisplayNameFor(model => model.Model.Model)
I think I should possibly rename some things...

@Jaloopa I have something similar going on on my project as well.
I tend to name things randomly if it isn't obvious.

Since it's only test data, lets seed the potential vehicle models with some stuff I want to pretend I might be selecting

@Jaloopa Lotus Elise isn't that pricey if it is in Blue btw

@lucas1 yeah, but it's a car I'd like to own. The cheap one on that list is the MX5, one of which I did own for a few months before realising it was a death trap that would cost more to repair than I'd paid for it, so sold it on

@Jaloopa
Why not use some WTDWTF test data?context.Models.Add(new Models.VehicleModel { Id = 11, Make = "Proper", Model = "Cunt" }); context.Models.Add(new Models.VehicleModel { Id = 12, Make = "Literal", Model = "Hitler" }); context.Models.Add(new Models.VehicleModel { Id = 13, Make = "Trolleybus", Model = "Garage" });

@Jaloopa You need more cars with complicated Unicode names.
Also, lack of multi-word names (like Lincoln Town Car or Toyota Crown Majesta)
