Nintendo does it again

Beware of the thing people often forget about the Sale of Goods Act 1974, as amended, blah blah blah. The "fit for purpose" thing refers to the purpose for which the item is sold, NOT the purpose for which it is bought.
I guess nintendo might claim that gaming is not hindered as heavily by bad pixels as other uses of a screen (EG movie viewing or office use). I doubt that argument would get them very far though.

@PleegWat said in Nintendo does it again:
I doubt that argument would get them very far though.
The video part in video game surely would guarantee that.
However considering some of the faults on that compilation I fault earlier, I think it better to wait until a 2nd revision. I was considering picking one up.

@Steve_The_Cynic said in Nintendo does it again:
The JoyCon thing might be a modified form of Bluetooth, of course.
It can be paired to normal bluetooth devices like Windows and macOS computers, Android phones etc.
Apparently though, the internals for each half of the JoyCon are different.
the right and left Joy-Con controllers internals are actually different and this is why maybe the left one has an issue staying connected. The right controller seems to have better connectivity because it includes a separate antenna, rather than the left controller that has its antenna built into the internal board and is in extremely close proximity to some metal shielding.

I'm surprised.
-
Is that more flex than an iPhone 6?
-
@RaceProUK said in Nintendo does it again:
I'm surprised.
Why? As odd as some of the decisions seem to be, Nintendo know what the average person buying these wants.
-
@loopback0 People want unstable systems that flex like rubber and scra- Oh, wait, Windows and iPhones are popular.
Carry on.

"Nintendo also warned users that using the Switch near an aquarium or within a metre of another wireless device, including laptops, wireless headsets, wireless printers, microwaves, cordless phones or even USB-3.0 compatible devices “such as hard drives, thumb drives, LAN adapters, etc”, might cause the Joy-Con controllers to disconnect from the Switch."
We accept zero responsibility for the quality of our product.

It's normal Bluetooth. You can actually pair the Joycons to a PC, you just need a special software to remap the buttons because it's not recognized as a regular gamepad.
In other news, from the comments:
Gotta say, the dumbest thing about all of this (and there's a lot of dumb stuff going on w/ Switch's hamstrung online "features") is that Nintendo has already begun updating the Switch's "news feed" with tons of alerts about system features and current/upcoming games. Most of these include, I shit you not, an invitation to "learn more" and a URL that you are told to enter while using "a computer or a smart device connected to the Internet." You can't tap or click the URL.
Really, Nintendo? You are trying to get us to care about your products and services, and yet your Internet-connected device, which is already pulling these news updates from magical beams sent from outer space, is designed to make us PUT IT DOWN to "learn more"? I love quite a few things about the Switch, but I have nothing to say about this nonsense but profanities and vulgar descriptions of my body parts. So, they have something akin to an RSS reader on this thing which can pull down text from a feed but is not designed to pull down the actual content of the entries... Geeze.

@RaceProUK I'm not sure what Windows or iPhone has to do with the popularity of the Switch, but the sort of abuse the Switch gets in that video isn't exactly representative of average use. Most consoles aren't going to get that abuse.
edit:
@anonymous234 said in Nintendo does it again:Flexing is better than breaking.
That too.

@RaceProUK The bendy thing was with the iPhone 6S which is phablet piece of shite.

SPlus which is phablet piece of shite. There's also a guy on Youtube who regularly does bend tests on phones, some of which do better than others.

@hungrier It pretty stupid I got mixed up between a 6 Plus and an S ... because I own the 6S.

There's no way a phone could be bent that HOLY SHIT HE SNAPPED IT IN TWO!

Just like the Wiimote.
Microsoft should just make a driver and add it to Windows. It would hurt Nintendo and benefit PC gaming.
-
@anonymous234 One of the guys are my Uni hacked the wiimote. Nintendo contacted him and said he had to cease and desist showing it for gaming.
-
Proof Nintendo's decision to block copying game saves to prevent piracy is brillant:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiVTliG8dSs
-
@lucas1 Companies can bully individuals into doing anything they want, even if they don't really have the rights to, but if it's another company (Microsoft) they won't be able to do anything in this case.
AFAIK reverse-engineering a Bluetooth protocol is completely legal.
-
@RaceProUK But did they pirate the Switch version or the WiiU version? That's a very important difference and I'm not going to watch a 7 minute video to find out.
Edit: it's WiiU.

Why? Nintendo's strategy of artificial shortage and exploiting a personality cult rivalling that of Donald Trump is well-known by now.
@RaceProUK said in Nintendo does it again:
The ISO got leaked by Nintendo of Europe a week before release, actually. Same with Twilight Princess HD.

I guess it shouldn't surprise me that people, when evaluating a new tech purchase, only consider 'ooh shiny'.
-
@RaceProUK Maaaaaybe some people have looked a bit further than "ooh shiny" and still decided they want one.
-
I'm pretty sure people are buying the Switch because they want to play the most critically acclaimed Zelda game ever made.

That's also available for the Wii U. Then again, the Wii U is only slightly more popular than Windows Phone, so...
-
@loopback0 Everyone that I've spoken to that isn't an internet geek wanted to play the new Zelda.

The funny thing is that the Wii U costs almost exactly the same as a Switch.

I think I've read somewhere that it spins backwards.

Depends on the hemisphere.
-
@pydsigner Does that mean you can force it to spin the other way, like you can with water?
-
@bugmenot said in Nintendo does it again:
Same with Twilight Princess HD.
The funniest part of that? Twilight Princess was the original, gold-standard game for the Wii that had a Saved Game hack that allowed for rooting the system.

@lucas1 This is why I discount the opinion of anyone who isn't an internet geek when it comes to anything with a substantial marketing budget. (Not that I don't discount the opinions of many internet geeks on top of that, mind.)

But you have a much better chance of finding a used one for cheap than a used Switch.
-
@bugmenot Most of the people I spoke to liked Zelda on the N64.
I was to busy play stuff like Duke 3d. Nintendo games always seem too feminine/cutesy for me.
-
-
OK, so I coincidentally just found this
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/169576-Nintendo-Switch-eShop-Purchases-Not-Tied-to-Console
I guess this balances it out. And it only took them 4 internet-enabled consoles!
Although, you'll have to start the game from zero again.
-
@anonymous234 One step forward, twelve leaps back. That, is the Nintendo way.
-
@anonymous234 Now watch as they extend this to implement PS4-style game rentals, always-online DRM and remote title pulling. They've done most of the other AAA derangements, so why wouldn't they go whole hog at this point? Also, this might at least prevent the embarrassment of being able to pirate video games from Nintendo's servers using an external keystore.
-
@RaceProUK All Nintendo has to do to break their past sales is manufacture 100 more of them every release period. They always underproduce anyway, so hearing that they've beaten their past sales again tells you nothing.
-
@bugmenot said in Nintendo does it again:

Wait... what???
-
Nintendo is like a lot of companies that do electronics. Their software developers don't really understand how the web works.
