@Tsaukpaetra Just remember, kiddies: in real life, it's "collaboration". As students, it's "cheating".

@flabdablet said in The Official Good Ideas Thread™:

Not necessarily. It's only a problem if it is used to lie on tests; contemporaneous collaboration on the actual learning is a good thing. Ideally, the teacher should also be aware of the document and able to contribute to it (if nothing else, so they can see which bits of what they're doing are causing students problems and can change how they teach in response) but the goal is learning and this is a tool that could help so much with that.
Alas, it could also be horribly disruptive too and used to prevent learning. :( That's the other reason why it needs to be monitored.

Not sure where to put this. It doesn't onebox properly but the links do go to the right place.
Canada Discovery Pass for its national parks is free this year. I can't speak for Canada but I'm a big fan of national parks in general.

You can tell a lot about me from the fact that I initially read that as 'Gender Quaffing", and couldn't figure out for the life of me what it meant. All I could think of was some sort of transformation potion, which meant that once I realize dmy mistake I was sorely disappointed.

There is very tragic legend of young girl who drown in spring 1500 year ago! Now whoever fall in that spring…take body of girl. Shocked at seeing his dad as a panda, Ranma Saotome is knocked by him into this spring.
The flow of this paragraph... stutters me...
-
@Tsaukpaetra That's partly because the first two sentences should be in quotes; they are taken directly from Viz translation of the manga. It is the explanation given to the Japanese-speaking Saotomes by their Chinese tour guide, who was having trouble getting across to them how dangerous the Training Ground of Accursed Springs really was.
The English translation was written in this manner because it was meant to replicate the guide's imperfect Japanese, as well as to reflect that Genma and Ranma could not speak or read Mandarin Chinese at all, and thus had no idea what the name of this historic training grounds (which the tour was just supposed to show to them, but which they were intending to actually train at) actually meant.
https://youtu.be/k06vLz3LnkU?t=13m6s
I set the video to start at a point just before the explanation; up until this scene, the Tendo sisters only had met Ranma as a girl, and were surprised when he showed up as male after taking a hot bath.

@ScholRLEA OMG that was hilarious!
I kinda want to watch the whole thing now!

TL;DR draw some circles on the floor to make drivers instinctively slow down because they think it's a roundabout.
Well, we'll have to see if it actually works.
-
@anonymous234 How long before the first pedestrians are mowed down when a car jumps the curve?

It doesn't. A nearby town tried it 20 years ago. They put roundabouts in nearly every intersection. Some painted, some slightly raised, some normal. The end result was that those who could afford an SUV continued to drive as before, whereas people with normal cars had to drive slower. Rednecks with really cheap cars also continued to drive as before. Basically everyone who actually pays taxes was influenced, and the rest just plowed on.

There was something like that at one entrance of my uni, on a very small crossing that was actually too small to put any sort of roundabout (smaller than the turn radius of most cars...).
Where it becomes funny is that the admin got fed up with everyone cutting through the bump instead of turning, so they added some signs (yeah, I know...) on it to force people to go around. That lasted about 2 days, until a delivery lorry arrived. There was no way he could have gone round, so after stalling for some time (that was nice from the driver... some would not have waited that long...), he simply plowed through. The admin got the message and did not replace the signs!

I just ran across this on IndieGoGo. Everyone remember the cute lab robots from the first Iron Man movie? Well, the people at uFactory are trying to actually build them. (More or less.)
They're building robotic arms with modular, interchangeable tools on the end and multiple methods to teach/program it to perform new tasks, from straight-out coding to putting it in "watch my hand and imitate its movements" mode. And all of the core code driving the robot will be open-source, so those who own one will be able to easily share new tricks and build up libraries of actions for it.
Check it out here if it looks interesting. (Full disclosure: this is a referral link. Every one that someone pledges for through it makes mine a little bit less expensive. But the only reason I have a referral link at all is because I ordered one; I'm literally putting my money where my mouth is here.)

@DoctorJones Yeah, that was pretty much my initial reaction too!

Hey YouTube, how many ads do I have to watch to unlock the "volume normalization" feature?
Some of the channels I watch have really quiet videos, so I'm not just asking for quieter ads.
-
@RaceProUK These unskippable ads; they would be the ones that Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin have been hiding from me for the past ten years?
-
@flabdablet uMatrix has failed to skip the latest video ads.
Refreshing the page a couple of times, however, does not.
-
@Zecc I've honestly not seen a YouTube ad for ten years (well, not on any of my own boxes at any rate). If you could link to a YouTube video featuring an "unskippable" one, I'd be curious.
-
@flabdablet I think they come up randomly, which is why sometimes refreshing the page makes them go away.

find a monetized video, most people trying to make a living on YT monetize their video. If they don't disable preroll videos (some do because they're fucking annoying) just sit on the video and refresh a bunch of times, you'll should get the add eventually.
