@Yamikuronue It's a unity thing, only a handful of tags. Why is it people see a field where that works and assumes "OMG JOO KEN LIEK TOTES HAXORS IT!!1!!"? There's a limit on characters it can take in so it's not like you can inject some random thing in it.

i'm just going to drop this here:

But can you build your own packet with a longer string and send it? I'm guessing not, but assuming that the client-side input limit is adequate protection is a bad idea.
-
@Fox If I remember correctly, Unity will only support a handful of tags, like i, and b.

There is someone who passed away by playing the game.

Really hoping it isn't random.
It's random, unless:
- It's named Sparky -- will evolve into Jolteon
- It's named Rainer -- will evolve into Vaporeon
- It's named Pyro -- will evolve into Flareon
True story; done two out of the three myself.

When they get to Gen3 and I can raise a Spoink and a Magnemite. Can't really think of any others I'd even want to raise. I like Spoink better than Magnemite, which is part of why I haven't bought a cheap android to play this on. Which I still probably won't do, but... we'll see.
-
@Magus But Magnemite is Gen1?

@PleegWat What part of:

did you miss? I'm well aware I could have a magnemite.

@cheong Think of it as evolution in action.
Also, "passed away" is not the right phrase at all. "Inadvertently committed suicide" is a far more accurate description.
Breaking into someone's house? Stupid for almost any reason.

My son said that only works on the first one of each evolution, according to a video he saw.

Could be; I've only done Flareon and Jolteon.

If you do another one and don't get the "right" evolution, you'll know.

Someone made a demo or something...

@boomzilla Looks awesome!

I wonder if they will end up supporting my phone. It would make sense at this point, and those petitions are going well. Hmm. But I still probably wouldn't play much.
-
I was slow getting into it...I don't generally play games. My big kids needed to help me.
As of Saturday, I only had 2. We left for vacation and the kids were playing on the drive so I turned my on. We stopped at Walmart for food and groceries.
I caught 20 Pokomon in the parking lot and the store. My husband only started yesterday, he is already ahead of me.

@Boner Oh goody, chemtrail loons.

So, despite playing it a bit and then giving up, my brother playing it dragged me back into it. Since I'm only "playing it" when I am otherwise commuting, that's fine. But I have a few problems, and I don't know if anyone else has them as well.
- The battery saver/upside down trick doesn't work for me. My game stays active (though my screen dims) instead of switching to the logo. I may attempt to report that to them as a bug.
- The most recent update changed it so the "Battery Saver" location option no longer works. I have to have a GPS option on (Device or High Accuracy) for the game to work.
Though, counter my post in the Status topic about quitting, when I did start it back up, the game replayed me hitting Levels 5 and 6 and gave me those items, I just don't know why it was so terribly delayed. I also changed my commute to work to hit more Pokéstops (and be in the shade more).

I think that's as intended. If the game isn't active, it can't alert you when you pass pokemon.
-
@Yamikuronue I don't mean it sleeping or going in the background, I mean not showing the map and your character but the Pokémon Go logo, like so (taken from the Internet):
My phone (Android 6.0) doesn't do that (and didn't pre-Pokémon Go update either), but it does for my brother (who is using the phone I had before upgrading, an Android 4.4 phone).
-
@ChaosTheEternal It's never done that for me, it always just goes black. Maybe that's bad...?
-
Status: apparently there has been an update to the app! My brother can no longer track Pokémon closeness, though he can adjust his personal appearance, totally necessary for a game that lets you see other players around... Oh wait...

And how likely are you to match your in-game character, much less care that others don't?

@Boner It's Ken Ham. This is major "dog bites man" news lol.
“Well—despite three of our staff members trying to explain it to me—I still don’t understand what it is or how it works. I guess I’m just from the wrong generation!”
Stupid old man is old and stupid?
When the staff member asked if Ham would like to evolve one of the Pokémon, offering the Creationist his phone, game at the ready, he advised he didn’t believe in evolution right before asking how to proceed.
Okay, I lol'd.
Ham pressed the appropriate buttons with the staff member’s guidance, and the Pokémon (described as a “bird”) simply became a “bigger, better bird.” This was not the act of evolving, according to Ham, as it “[was still] a bird! … That’s not evolution!”
And we're back to "Ken Ham is Ken Ham" .

Oh. Oooooh. I needed that one, thanks.
Wait, there's more if I keep reading? Lemme fetch my respirator...

@Onyx I think we can say for sure that Pokèmon are created beings, and any evolution is just according to their created nature. ;)

If Golbats are evolved from Zubats, why are there still Zubats?

Threw 20 pokeballs at a Butterfree. Hit 15 of them. Escaped every one. Ran away.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Out of pokeballs :(

Time to fire up the white candy van and head down to the local Pokestop hot spot.

@JazzyJosh I need one more nidoran (both genders) to get the final evolution. All the ones that show up for me run after one throw. Reminds me too much of the Safari zone in the original games. :(
-
You can't throw a dead meowth without hitting a pokestop near my job.

Didn't you know? This is actually Pokemon Safari Go! Only this time you don't even have rocks to throw!

@JazzyJosh You need berries
