Would it be possible to make it so the window only pops up if there are downvotes?
Note that it also shows you all of the upvotes. See here for the most ridiculous case:

@PleegWat didn't get the memo

And there are still multi-petabytes avatars in this thing

The sysadmin outranks the admin whenever he wants to.
All three of the @administators are also sysadmins.

Who cares about bandwidth and cache performance (server and client) today ?
That's web 3.0 (alpha) software, baby !
-
@cabrito my shitty mobile ISP has a 1GB cap, my ADSL is around 100GB. I don't wanna spend it in avatars that will be resized by CSS

Then maybe then you should stop necroing: think all the cache evictions you are triggering !

Is this where I resign sysadmin and admin roles? Should I add mod to that list?
Seriously, the first time I hear about a major (I enter this thread as evidence) change is where I get @group mentioned?
-
@PJH (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
-
@PJH Don't worry, no major was changed!
Filed Under: maybe a minor, though

If you resigned, how many admins/mods/TL4/elevated users would this forum lose?

About 20.
I exaggerate.
Slightly.

If this feature is so controversial, I'm surprised nobody has turned it off after I explained that turning it back on was a misunderstanding on my part.

Hey, @boomzilla, did you misunderstand the thing that we've established I incorrectly thought you misunderstood?
Third base!
Err...I thought that the ability of logged in users to view all voting was accidentally turned on, so I turned it off, because we were all discussing what to do about it. Then I got drunk and you turned it back on and now I'm awake again.

I figured that people liked it because 91% of the responses to "should we have public votes" were "yes".
-
@ben_lubar said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

I would have, but I can't.
-
@ben_lubar 10 users is not 91%of users affected.
To channel my twitter stuff which @boomzilla was recently surprised at, you should go into tobacco control. You'd be at home there abusing statistics like that.

If we counted percent of total users instead of percent of voting users, there would never be anybody with enough votes to get into the US government,

Ok… Im out.

Look, you can complain all you want, but until someone actually flips the switch, it's going to stay turned on. I'm perfectly fine with @PJH or @boomzilla turning it off. I turned it on due to a miscommunication. But the fact that nobody is turning it off means it probably doesn't matter all that much.
-

Yes, because he clearly meant total users and not active users or regular users.
It's now 100% clear to me that you turned it on because you wanted to and you could, you're willfully ignoring all arguments that it might be a bad thing or undesirable, and you're spouting disingenuous bullshit as justification.
Fuck you.
-
@ben_lubar Just make voting obligatory like we do.
(that is a terrible idea by the way, people that currently don't care to vote will make poor choices)

Im on fucking mobile and drunk. @boomzilla probably isn't online.
Turn it off already.

If people really want me to, I can step down as administrator. @PJH and @boomzilla have exactly the same access as I do.

Yeah, about the same amount that "deleting the first post in a topic shouldn't delete the entire topic" much.

Don't overvalue these misunderstandings. I suggest you just let it off until you're all sober and come to a decision as a group.
-
@mods need to do it as a team, like in this video: The IT Crowd | Team Players | Channel 4 – 01:34

Now, conversation needed when I'm less drunk, with the @Global-Moderators included, starting Monday, regarding this.

Yup. Definately TC material. No, I wasn't counting, for example, the 99% of users that were spam accounts that weren't purged in either of the imports to different systems.
This incident would make a great Front Page article..

Totes! Who's gonna write it!
-
@Tsaukpaetra Jane, or Maciej, I hope...
Personality I'd vote fer the latter of the two.

Right except most of us here either have been, or still are, sysadmins and I guarantee every single one of us has made a mistake in that role.
Some of us worse than Ben's, and some of us not as bad as Ben's. The important part with mistakes is that someone learns from them and he's clearly not going to do it again.
It's resolved for now - let's just chalk it up as the mistake it was and move on.
-
@loopback0 I'm concerned about the ongoing pattern of difficulty or unwillingness to communicate, though...
-
@loopback0 said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

I don't know that that's true given that he never in a single post expressed an ounce of recognition that he did the wrong thing. He was justifying it until he was told to turn it off.
-

Us shouting at him isn't going to make him want to communicate more. That's one for the other staff members to discuss with him elsewhere.

He's admitted that turning it back on was a mistake on his part. No-one's been actively complaining it was left on before @PJH rocked up.
-

With my love for deadlines, we might all not live long enough for me to get to it...
(I'm rather off-and-on with the front page - work got busy, and honestly I've been on a steady quality decline for a while anyway).
-
@Maciejasjmj If you don't want it I can do it, just not right now
