A friend and I were going on a backpacking trip in Maine. We had debated which strategy to use if we encountered a bear, but we kept going round-and-round for all the reasons you listed. We never did settle on what we were going to do.
So the first day of the hike, we see a bear in the middle of the trail. My friend's natural reaction was to shout, "OMG! IT'S A BEAR! THIS IS AWESOME! GET YOUR CAMERA! GET YOUR CAMERA!" The bear ran away.

Sounds like that "Common Core" math I keep hearing about.

I know perfectly well in my head that I don't need to shift from neutral to first when I'm driving my wife's auto
My problem is remembering that there's no clutch pedal. I'll be cruising down the highway, start to take an exit ramp, and want to slow down gradually. My brain wants to downshift, but it forgets I'm in an automatic, and I end up slamming on the break pedal with my left foot.
Just wondering how much appetite anyone has for forking and maintaining Discombobulation.
Almost none:

I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a garbage collector today.

Or even more, people could place requests for the bus to stop at certain stop and if no requests were found, the bus could skip it for faster travel.
This is already a thing. Inside the bus there's a wire connected to a bell that you have to pull to ask the driver to stop at the next stop. If no one pulls the wire (and no one is waiting at the stop) the bus doesn't stop. Don't need no fancy apps or nuthin'.

So what's the difference between "should" and "ought to" in this context?
@heterodox ah gotcha. I'm looking for something to just help me relax, and I'd rather not have booze. I guess I'll give it a try.
I had a problem with anxiety, so I started drinking alcohol. Now I have two problems.
Seriously though, alcohol is not a medication. Don't ever use it as such.

Another ISP
What other ISP? For a large part of the country, ISP's are basically monopolies (especially high speed access). So the ISP gets a sweetheart deal from one messaging app, but there's no "other ISP" to "just offer cheaper data" where new innovative messaging apps can compete with the chosen one.
Stop wasting your time defending this. You're smarter than that. No need to get butthurt when someone finds a bug in your favorite pet language.

I play piano keyboard even worse than I type
Me too. A friend of mine called that "composer's piano": good enough to write music on the piano, but not good enough to play what you wrote.
sounds like you want to be doing MIDI synth
This. You can use any cheap keyboard that has MIDI output. Then you'll need some hardware to get the MIDI connected to your computer. Then you need software to capture your performance and synthesize the different instruments you want to hear.
I've only used Pro Tools for this. It's quite expensive and not even the best at MIDI stuff. I'm sorry, but I don't know enough to recommend any cheap/free options for you.
