WHAT IS THE USE CASE FOR TWO PEOPLE SIMULTANEOUSLY USING RDP *ON A SERVER* (and hopefully one that isn't horribly contrived, please.)
Me and my college work on one machine.
Machine is in US of A. We use that to do development in Visual Studio 2012 profesional version. This machine is also having lot of 3rd party tools that I dont have licenses for. So we are using that machine. I am remote desktop into that box over there.
We work in shifts, but sometime shift overlaps. If we can both remote desktop in our own separate session that would be great, but Microsoft is not letting us do that.
That is simple use case for you.
If you didn't have 918 posts, I would make thought that you're trolling for fun.

"Sametime" sounds like some kind of obnoxious TSR program, like Dosshell, "Sideways," or Borland Sidekick.
I used sametime once and later company decided to go for WIndows Messenger since sametime licenses were more expensive at the time. Windows messenger offering same abilities at less price.
ArrivingRaptor,
Games are played at all levels and the trick is to get familiar with the players before finding out the game. Once you have made proper identification of all the players, then you can play the game.
Sorry you don't get promoted but as I see it, it is big flaw in your thinking and working style.

@eViLegion said:There are a lot of companies out there who have the same problems. The reality is that top management generally doesn't want to have to do anything, which is why they hire people to do it for them... the only problem is, hiring and promoting people is something that they ALSO don't want to have to do... so they farm off hiring to an HR department, which usually doesn't have enough domain knowledge to hire the right people (hence you get absolute bilge checked into source control)... and they put zero effort into picking who to promote, by *randomly* selecting the first name their subconscious mind gives them (usually the dickhead "life-and-soul of the Christmas party" guy who made sure to ply them with drinks).
Never does it cross their minds that the quiet guy who's name they cant quite remember should be promoted... mainly because they don't remember his name, but also because they themselves have lost touch with the cutting edge of technology (if they were ever in touch) and so wouldn't be able to differentiate between good code and a kick in the balls, even if presented to them side by side. This guy has it right. The only way to escape bad people is to leave. At my last job one of the (many) reasons I said "fuck this place" is that one of my coworkers spent like a month rolling his own Java mock framework (why yes, the first Google hit for "Java mock framework" is a Stack Overflow thread listing a dozen mature stable frameworks) and then got promoted*, while I churn out a code update that fixed a flaw** so legitimately high-priority that it got its own special release*** and I get the managerial equivalent of a pat on the head at the next project-wide meeting.
* Technically he got promoted because the top Project Manager asked if anyone would do a client's pet project involving Active Directory and he volunteered for it despite not knowing anything about Active Directory. Considering he was a huge Not Invented Here guy, I'd bet his solution could have been done in a quarter of the time with two or three carefully-worded Google searches.
** System analyst whose design contained the original flaw? Promoted.
*** I even got it done in within project milestones, which is impressive since I estimated double the time to my manager and he cut that estimate in half because of how high-priority it was (as in people not getting paid).
Can anyone tell the site that this is unacetable in to day's world?

I think the answer 100% depends on whether you're using Visual Studio or not.
Yes definitively using C# as wepon of choice. So VS 2010 or even 2012 is most likely.
Development is going to be all RAD and with heavy usage of webforms, we should be up and running in no time.
We are all on windows machines here and some people are thinking of using TFS.
I am in 2 minds about it.
Any thoughts?
Also are you using any command line tool for TFS?

im not at all impressed with mine.
left ctrl key broke after 3 months, it is not covered by the waranty, they wanted 150 € for the keyboard replacement, fuck sonySimilar situation: CD-RW/DVD began to develop a fault where it would spin up for a bit then slow down to a crawl, the head making plenty of disk-seeking noises to fetch data off the disk. Happened with several DVDs, but would read CDs okay.
Hinge bracket on one side broke (was unaware of it) so only the other side was hinged. I later discovered the metal poking out of the casing - pushing the lid back far enough exposed the snapped bracket. It survived on just the one hinge for a bit longer before finally snapping. A new hinge and lid assembly case was quite a bit, even going by eBay prices. I was going to cannibalise parts from an identical machine at work until I heard it'd suffered the same fate.
For the 2 years or so I used it, it did the job I wanted it to, but a mate's Thinkpad had a better screen, easier keyboard, more robust build and lasted longer than mine. For the price the company paid I don't feel it represented value for money, compared to his (then again, he worked for IBM).
They may *look* nice kit, but IME they don't last and feel like budget kit hiding behind an expensive badge.
Maybe they sell different and more roubst units in India. Also we are more careful with posesions that belong to company, unlike some americans and british people.
How many time do you touch the screen? We are too used to mouse and keyboard. touch pad on laptop itself is nuisance value. touch screen is another nuisance value. maybe you are watching and influenced by glass company commercial like Corning. If you see that commercial, it is not different from talking about flying cars and talking horses.

Reminds me of one of my previous employers (who had the services of three DBAs at the time) who didn't like Primary Keys on tables in Oracle. They used Unique Indexes instead. Things sort of came to a stalemate because every time I had to create a new table, it got created properly - PK and all. If I changed existing stuff they moaned, but so long as I created the table in first place, they let my PKs though.
Never did manage to get a justification for that madness out of them...
In some cases I notice that referential constraint cause much mischiefs when developer not familiar with old legacy application.
With huge offshore contract risk is high, so best thing to do is drop all foreign key on database, after approval from business users , and enjoy smooth running of application.

The real WTF is String.IsNullOrEmpty(). My first issue with it is that it's trivial to construct a boolean expression that manages the same thing without a function call. I hate crap like that, where extra ways to do things are grafted onto a language for no goddamned reason. After all, if you don't understand nulls and boolean expressions, you're screwed anyway. Second, how many fucking times does Microsoft expect me to hit the Shift key per day? Like, 80,000? I usually just seeth quietly about "camel case," "Pascal case," and the rest of Microsoft's time-wasting, finger-twisting naming recommendations, but this one is ridiculous. It looks like you're sending the runtime a ransom note.I don't use the shift key while typing it. I type the following keys and intellisense does the rest - s, t, r, {dot}, i, s, n, {right parenthesis}
Maybe that bridget person is not using Visual Studio to make coed. He should try using VS 2012 and resharper extended for maximum ease of programming.

- To those who use Wicket, what kind of pitfalls did you experience when you first started using it?
- More in general, any tips on how to deal with my employer if they expect too much?
Backstory:
So I recently accepted a job that will have me working with Apache Wicket as the company "upgrades" their legacy code to Java.
My Java experience is ... My current language of choice is C#, so Java feels familiar-yet-different-- like a foreign girlfriend or something. My Wicket experience is ... outside of being ordered to read "Wicket in Action" to prepare for the job, I have no experience with it. Working through the book, it all seems well-designed and the F-word counter is still <10.
The team and working conditions are awesome, they bought me a top-of-the-line ThinkPad, office chair of my choice, etc. I don't want to screw up. I'm sort of worried actually, especially since 10 people separately approved of me despite the lack of relevant experience. If anyone out there has tips or advice they wish they'd have known when they first started using Wicket, please post it.
If you feel that you are less qualified, then you likely are.

So, Qs to those out there:
- anyone made the leap yet?
- what gotchas do you need to look out for? What's going to catch you unawares?
- what new features - if any - does outlook.com bring that people have found useful?
- Is it worth making the leap to another provider (gmail, yahoo, etc) instead?
I am also using outlook.com. Big difference is way it looks.

Some of the specs look weak and it doesn't have an expansion card slot or a replaceable battery but I guess that I could use it to read a book in the mornings or something like that.
Hey don't buy Nexus 4. Our project manager had a car-accident and he was using his Nexus 4 to text his girl-friend while driving, when a big buffalo stepped in his way.

This is one group on techgig.com
You can participate and win prizes like t-shirts and stuff. This is the contest they have in March 2013.
Problem Statement Question here is that you are given range of number (A to B) and you have to tell the sum of slope of all the number between A and B. Now we define the term slope of a number N. Slope of a number N is the number of digits (excluding the first and the last digit) which is either maxima or minima in that number. Consider a number N. A digit in number N is called minima if it is smaller than both of its neighbour and a digit is called maxima if it is larger than both of its neighbour. In case of wrong ranges or unexpected ranges, please return output as -1
Input/Output Specs Input Specification: Input 1 specifies the starting range of numbers. It will be of integer type Input 2 specifies the ending range of numbers. It will be of integer type Output Specification: sum of slope value of all the number in the given range . Output will be of integer type In case of wrong ranges or unexpected ranges, please return output as -1
Example 1 : Consider the range 1-100 in this range all the numbers are either one digit or 2 digit so the slope value of all the number is zero and hence the sum is zero. Similarly, consider the range 100-150 the sum of slope of all the number in this range is 19 Example 2 : Consider the number 54698 in range 54698-54800. In this number 4 is a minima because it is smaller than it both neighbor i.e. 5 and 6. similarly digit 9 is a maxima because it is grater than both of its neighbor i.e. 6 and 8. Slope of 54698 is 2 because it has 4 as minima and 9 as maxima and there is no other minima or maxima. Similarly we check next numbers in the range 54698-54800 and sum of slope of all the numbers will be the output.
Some folks have already solved this and I wish them all luck. As for me, I am trying to find out meaning of slope. Then perhaps I can win the t-shirt.
