Nexus 4

  •  I'm waiting for this phone. It's been launch day for over 9 hours and it still isn't released! Come on Google! Open up and take my money.

  •  I want you to know that this is my phone and that should allow you to deduce my feelings for your post.

    Your phone has "modern love"?

    Schweeeet!

  •  Is has a purple dildo connection, but it's that weird-ass sony two-prong connector, so its not compatible.

  •  Aha... that only fits the Sony Anal Intruder.

Different voltages, current and stroke length, from what I gather.

Bloody proprietary shit. They really need to standardise, y'know?

Why? It is special or something?

Seems like a nice phone, what is wrong with it?

Some kind of Sony with ads for Nokia Lumia and Samsung Galaxy S3. Nexus 4 blows them out of the water on almost all fronts. FTR this is my current phone, which needs updating!

    Yes.

It came on sale in the Australian Play store at 11:20am my time yesterday (Tuesday), and was sold out in 20 minutes. But it still says "Coming Soon". It's now 3:30am here. My toddler woke me up because he was thirsty so I thought I'd check. Still Coming Soon.

For a minute I thought you said the Nexus blows my phone out of the water on all fronts. :D This would be "true", except for battery life and TCO. Or maybe those are also true. Your power consumption and cost are guaranteed to blow mine out of the water!

  • @dhromed said:

For the phone itself, yes. But I expect this phone to replace my netbook for some tasks (like browsing on the train) so on average I'll be using less power.

My current phone is slowly dying so I'll need to replace it sooner rather than later: the Nexus 4 is very good value for money. I was planning on getting the Galaxy Nexus, but the Nexus 4 will be cheaper (and better) than what the GNex sells for now! (Unless I grey-import it, but then the GNex is only marginally cheaper. LOL, your link now has an ad for the grey-import company I was thinking of using). I've been saving for many months so I deserve a nice toy!

I've only had Nokias since 2001, so this will be my first proper smart phone, first 3G phone and first Android.

I did say "almost". I'm ignoring the obvious shortcomings: lack of micro SD slot and possible shortish battery life. There's no 4G LTE anywhere near me so that's a useless feature for me at the moment.

Your phone looks like the Sony equivalent of my Nokia 5500. Both are several years out of date! :) But yours doesn't look like it would survive a fall, mine is very tough.

    Good call!

    @Zemm said:

The casing is metal. It will, and has, survived several falls with barely a visible scratch.

Its software doesn't have a notes function. This saddens me. :(

  • Well I bought the Nexus 4 from the US Play Store, going via a re-shipper. It didn't accept one of my credit cards, but it did the other, so hopefully everything goes through. Even with the extra fees and shipping time I should get it before Australian store restocks (current rumour is around March 2013!) and cheaper (exchange rate is good a the moment, plus being $50 cheaper even if it was 1:1 it would come out ahead slightly)

Hours after I bought it, it sold out again!

it can actually double as a dildo.

    Nostalgia.

When I bumped it into a table corner, it not only broke the screen, but also my heart :(

  • Hay guyz, I'm using my shiny nexus right now. Re-shipper sent it Friday and got it Monday just after lunch. However using it on the bus is giving me motion sickness. :(

That is so wonderful news. Like the time we thought we had finished gulab jamuns, but my granny had an extra bowl in the fridge.
Now that you've got the latest toy, you should get seeder also.

  • So, now that you had the phone for some time, is it utter crap or overhyped? Is there something horribly wrong with it? I ask you because my brother decided for some
reason that I need a phone and gifted me that one and there is still time to exchange it or return it (I guess I could also resell it). Some of the specs look weak and it doesn't have an expansion card slot or a replaceable battery but I guess that I could use it to read a book in the mornings or something like that.

Hey don't buy Nexus 4. Our project manager had a car-accident and he was using his Nexus 4 to text his girl-friend while driving, when a big buffalo stepped in his way.

I don't drive, don't text, don't have a girlfriend and there are no buffalos in the city that I live, so am I safe then?

  •  Maybe it has an app so you can scan for how you're being watched?

Don't be silly, buffalos don't have apps

Wait for Samsung's new S4 and it will blow you.

Looks like they have personal cloud and scheduled backup apps. No Angry Birds though.

For the probable price sticker it better, hookers are cheaper in third worlds contries, for that ammount of money not only somebody (or something if your are really into kinky stuff) will blow, you would also get blow as a perk

Not a deal breaker, what type of grass do they like the most?

  • I been tinkering with the phonen for like a week and there are a couple of quirks that are annoying. For example it takes forever to fully charge (it has been 7 hours and is not at 100% yet from 32%), is that normal? Also Google Search went berserk trying to use voice recognition in a crowded room so I had to uninstall it, however it can only be disabled because it is part of the core services, but you have to uninstall all updates first... wtf?

Charger is not correct or electricity conversion is problematic. Happen in India for US purchased Motorola Cordless phone for me.

If you're in India, that is most likely to happen again.

  • @Nagesh said:

electricity not same all over world.

American appliances run on FREEDOM POWER.

  • @Nagesh said:

Well for better or worse our electric system is the same as the American, the phone was charged when I got home from work so I guess it works, according to Google it should take 2 hours... fucking liars... other forums point toward 3 hours and something but they also say that modern batteries last longer between 20-80 % charge and that in order to prevent a dead battery it switch to trickle power so maybe that is why it takes so long (technology right?). Whatever, as long as I get to play Angry Bird in the crapper which is its primary use anyways.

Try TempleRun 2, it is better than AngryBirds!

Does anything work in India? :-P

I use my US-purchased Nexus 4 here in Australia (240V 50Hz) no problems at all, just needing a thingy to make it physically fit. Only takes ~2 hours to charge from dead flat using the charger, but it can take all day from a PC USB port. I use my phone on my commute, it's the screen that takes the most amount of power.

  • @Zemm said:

Ohh your post gave me the solution, the problem is that the charger isn't supplying enough amperage to charge, the Nexus battery needs around 0.8a and neither my wall charger nor your USB ports give it nearly enough to charge it as fast as it could. Replacing the charger should fix the issue.

I use it in the bathroom as I don't actually need it for anything else and I agree, the screen eats a lot of energy, makes you wonder about all those 1080p phone screens and how much battery time they are actually getting and whether the trade off for a HD screen that small is actually worth it.
