Mail oops

  • I was looking through various job ads on craigslist this morning when I spotted this quick gig to make some money: need to REMOVE/UNSEND sent emails from (Gaithersburg). Which has the impassioned plea:

Need help with what I have been told is the impossible....need to either unsend or delete emails that were sent from a gmail account to a PNC account earlier today and will be read on Monday morning.

$$$ in it for anyone who can get it done.

And it looks like they are prepared to pay up to $1000 to get it done. Makes you wonder what they did.

  • I guess we'll find out monday morning.

Well, somebody will. I'm just hoping it gets reported.

  • Not technically impossible, I'd say … just not necessarily easy and/or legal :)

  • Well, if admin of the ISP in question sees it - easy cash. ;)

And if he keeps a copy - more easy cash in the future. ;)

  • ... And I presume the money only gets paid AFTER Monday, i.e. only if proven successful :)

  • That's easy. They only have to send a few more copies of that email—until the receiver's spam filter deletes it.

    ;-)

  • Seems like the simplest way would be to hire some one to break in to the recipient's house and read then delete the email.

Sometimes low-tech solutions are the best.

  • It's easy, one should find the recipient by his E-mail, contact with him, explain the situation, make a deal, then wait until Monday, get money, give half of sum to the recipient and after that the recipient is free to do whatever he supposed to do with that E-mails. He will get money for nothing, so probably he will agree.

  •  I see all these photographic or colourful icons that are not a variation of the default one. What the hell is wrong with you people?

  • Slight problem with several of the plans given.  The poor bastard requesting this specifies 'emails' not email, which means there was more than one or it was an accidental reply all type of situation.  So targeting the recipient would not work, you would have to target all of the recipients which could be hundreds.

They all want to be cool like me.

I now conform to your decree.

I saw this commercial on television quite a few times. Always made me chuckle.

Or the Colombian police. Or one of several other organisations. One hopes that anyone who followed up would get a proper spec of which organisation they were supposed to hack.

What I have to give is more of a... direct connection.

  • If he were smart, he would have used the undo send function on GMail.

    Too late now, I guess.

    Good point, I missed that.

thinks hard Hire someone to beat up the sender and take the money anyway…?

Since the functionality defaults to only 5 seconds after the email is 'sent', with a maximum of 30 seconds, and you're unable to cancel if you close the page early (since you lose the link,) I don't think that would have helped.

  •  It's kind of a staple TV sitcom plot to have a character send a message he/she later regrets and tries to recall, whether it's paper mail, a phone message, an email, a text message, a carrier-pigeon note, whatever.... to their boss, girl/boyfriend, the entire office/school, etc... leading to a bizarrely convoluted plot to intercept the message before it's read.  Even the Flintstones did it once, so it goes back to the Stone Age.

They have dedicated fiber bringing the heavenly light right to your home. Also the pornographers are burning in hell next to the spammers[1] and script kiddies[2], so the bandwidth usage is way down. Unfortunately, I'm an atheist so will be stuck on a 4800 baud modem using a trojan and spyware infested 386 running Windows 3.11.

[1] God is capable of creating an entire universe in seven days. He can create his own v1agra if He needs it for any reason.

[2] Heaven's sysadmins - putting the "fire" into "firewall" since 4004BC.

Why, why would you link to tv tropes, that site is worse than wiki (in that you start reading one article than the next moment you look at the clock and 3 hours have gone past and you have 10+ links open that you have yet to read).  But I do agree with you.

You mean you actually bless your illegal moonshine before you sell it out of the back of your pickup truck?

There are even entire movies based on that premise...

Well, for the lols and giggles I went ahead and clicked on the link.  Within 20 minutes I was already at:

    - Zany Scheme
      - Counter Zany
        - Unspoken Plan Guarantee
          - A-Team Montage
          - Chekhov's Armoury
            - Cow Tools
            - Epileptic Trees
              - Everyone Is Jesus In Purgatory
              - Poison Oak Epileptic Trees
      - Zany Scheme Chicken

I then decided to close all windows before it got bad.

Sad thing is that all of your tags are on tv tropes in some form.
