@SpectateSwamp can SSCMA integrate with Google Maps?
Sure neat to see some other pics of the area... Just paste the GeoTagg into Google Maps search..
For those video I don't load to YouTube, It's handy to have the location in the File Name.
Ie the directional search elements of left ahead or right will be the geo tag to search for the
next video, pic, or song in that direction... Wow GeoTagging is BIG
-
@SpectateSwamp no I mean if there was a direct Google Maps view embedded in SSCMA. I could see that being very useful to Swampies.

That would require .... much more than what is currently available, I would think.

You are almost right..
Using the long filenames has broke My Video recording roadblock
Just shooting, looking and spotting wasn't finishing the job..
Now the name has the start point and play length in the name... Forever Cataloged..Yesterday I shot 7 cloud videos of about 30 seconds each
I looked at them
Found One that I cataloged with start point and length as well as the Geo-tagg
Then I went out later in the day to shoot more video.
Blockage begone with Long FileNames... Yup
-
@SpectateSwamp what is a Long FileName?

It's like a LongFile Name, but extended.
-

IIRC, half of his videos' size is due to the filename itself. Just to give you an indication.

It caches a lot of disk stuff. I read his post as saying that the OS stores more than 40 lines. Not more than 71GB.

Random words it does.
Stuff of many things it finds. All in a

It's pretty simple to go onto google maps and find a location nearbyI'd better check out that feature. See how hard it is to extract and place in the FileName
It is all about Location Location Location.

Dang double dang or maybe not.
SomeHow when the SSDS is busy.. opening and closing 2 control files... They get corrupt..
the files.txt and or the search.txt are empty... What the hey...I could look at a fix.. but it happens so seldom AND it may be a feature...
The system gets locked up so tight that even Ctrl / Alt / Del has no effect.
I have to power down to stop the madness. As a feature...
If I see something running amok on my PC.. Then I'd mess with those files and Fire the search up.
Locking everything until I power it down,...
I think I'll leave it in.
But
Make a serious note in the Help.txt file right at the beginning..Don't try this at home..
-

I have the sneaking suspicion that your filenames don't match the exact format that SS uses. Because if it's possible for the program to not crash, then any crashes must be user error.
-
@PotatoEngineer no, I just double click it and it crashes.

It is all about Location Location Location. You miss the point.
You could equally program something to extract that data from the file and point it out on google maps.
And it's stored automatically.
In your version, you need to look up your location, and not forget to store it in the long file name. And even if you programmed your version to automatically add it to the long file name, you have to make sure you don't duplicate it, make sure the user doesn't delete it, handle if the user removes one digit, etc. It's unreliable.
-
@SpectateSwamp Do you think you could at some point make a text file detailing every feature of SSCMA so that people who actually want to use it, can?

Nope none of that.
My method is simpler... Remember the motto.... KISS
You don't have to have a video file that has the GeoLocation embedded; Just to Locate it
No need for software to extract those coordinates and and and
Spectate Media Player doesn't LIKE metadata... SMP uses Looooong FileNames
I never worry about duplicates or others messing with my files.. Why would I.Having shot and curated lots of Cloud video lately... I Love the ability to set the Spectate start point from the Video filename.. Now I'm gonna have to go Back to all my great Cloud Critter videos and rename likewise.
That job will be completed when the Spectate point is set..
For Audiophiles ... Set the Start play point for the mp3 song to your favorite riff.
It would be a lot of work but quick to update and test as you proceed...
-
@pie_flavor said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:
@SpectateSwamp Do you think you could at some point make a text file detailing every feature of SSCMA so that people who actually want to use it, can?
It has a help.txt file...
IF you can get it running...
After a non crash.. at prompt #2
Enter "help" and the SSDS creates the file and starts display of it..
Most of the features are there.. some of the more recent are only HERE...
-
@pie_flavor said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:
@PotatoEngineer no, I just double click it and it crashes.
Try putting a copy of the Search.exe into a new folder by itself.
Start up under administrator.. Sometimes it balks on first start but not so much anymore.
All the control files you need are generated at startup.. so no need to worry about bad files. If you have lots of video, audio, pics or text files.. You are ready to catch up with Ol Swampie and fast
Don't be worry..
You can do it .
-

Simple mottoes for simple people.
For Audiophiles ... Set the Start play point for the mp3 song to your favorite riff.
So, because I have a favorite riff, I'm supposed to ignore the rest of the song? A favorite riff, if I have one, is a favorite, in part, because of the song of which it is a part.
Also, audiophiles play vinyl through tube amplifiers and $10000 solid gold cables. They don't play MP3s.
-
@SpectateSwamp said in Nobody shares knowledge better than this:

Hmmm. The simplest method to search for something is to use the OS-integrated search, you know. You don't even need to install SSDS.
-

would be great if SSDS could just search for sky creators on it's own without having to look for them manually like some stone age schmuck

Who's afraid of Big FileNames wrecking their crappy app
I just love 'em long and informative...
Just yesterday I used long filenames to curate those videos I shot lately..What fun it can be if you do it like I do..
First I run the Spectate feature to catalog all the videos on a device or in a folder.. (mere seconds)
In this case I'd already loaded the names with the start stop points etc..I just needed to refine them a bit.
Then I opened that .txt file with notepad.
I selected the first video's date and time to the clipboard
Then I started the app to play the video
on request for first search item.. I pasted in the above clipboard infoAnd away it would go.. Playing the thumbnail selected Over and over again
as it hit the end of file for search..THEN
I'd see where i could change the start point or speed or description..
Making that change in the text file... saving it..Wow
The next loop of the playback for that video.. Picks up the change..
being able to adjust the start / stop point like this makes it fun.. a lot of fun. Then next video ...
I finished the 27 clips and go through the list...
copying each files details and changing the corresponding video's name...Then a re catalog
and run 'em all for display.I'd been working on the app for 20 years and didn't realize the power of the long filename
that was just sitting there..The GF catalog feature loaded the filename (and metadata for mp3) into the first #1 detail search line
the 2nd line is the path to the videoBy just changing the filename to include the play details is a major breakthrough..
http://www.telusplanet.net/public/stonedan/search.exe
The search and the msvbvm50.dll
And a PC is all you need..In no time at all you can be as good as me...

@ScholRLEA
AND I'm, about to start a thread about
OS Developers need to do their job and create a OS
That people need.. AND the greatest Video ThumbNailer of ALL timeBack in the 80's I took a two day course for system manager on the DEC 11/70
We could take a boot tape. load the operating system, and patches.
One program was called PIP for peripheral interchange program.. (moves files to drives or printer or ???)
Another was the SYS command whereby we could watch all activity and KILL any and all processes.
Todays OS are far from that simple and almost impossible for anybody but Your selected group to understand or even want to.You missed the KISS and along the way became Very very pathetic.
I don't want indexers running wild and would Kill them and their parents.
I'd watch any activity on my wifi connection and force it some crap if I could..
I don't want any system syncing anything..
I'll do my own backups.. ThankYouWindows defender and the rest are pure crap and I don't want running on My Computer.
Yup you OSies are the Problem.
