Climate change!
Wanted to rest a little outside on the terrace. Of course, just then a drizzling rain started.
So I am back here to shitposting at WDTWTF.

The storm we have coming in now is supposed to drop 5 to 10 feet of snow in the higher elevations of the Sierras. And 100mph winds. They're warning people in the Bay area that if they're heading up today (the storm is today thru Sun (I think)) to make sure they bring enough food. The stores up there are currently stocked well, but that won't last.

Party in the mountains!

Weather Status: while the day started with a cosy mild morning at +18°C, the later development is ... Currently +9°C and drizzling rain. If this development continues, there will be when I go to bed...
-
@BernieTheBernie We're going through the edges of named storm Kathleen. Temperatures up, but plenty of rain from time to time and lots of wind. At least the rain doesn't last long; the wind pushes the squall lines through quickly.
-
-
@HardwareGeek It has begun — although the hail isn't 3 inches (yet), perhaps 1/2 – 1 inch.
-
@HardwareGeek Heil hail!
-
Weather: Dusty with a chance of meatballs.

Status: Terribly windy. And starting to get cloudy, too .
And the forecast says: more wind, showers, chilly...
I'll likely spend more time shit posting on WDTWTF...

Why was I even outside? Well, working from home was prevented by Mordac.

All hail! All hail!
I'm glad I didn't need to go anywhere...

But this is !It's spring and the only predictable season in Western Europe is winter. The rest are an unpredictable free-for-all.
Might be hot and sunny, might be cold and hailing sideways. Might even be both 20 minutes apart.

@BernieTheBernie As we day in : "April doet wat hij wil". Or, "April does whatever it wants".
Or in another variant, "Aprilletje zoet heeft ook wel eens een witte hoed", "Sweet April also sometimes wears a white hat".
-
@PleegWat In another folk wisdom, overnight frost is possible up to "IJsheiligen" or "Ice Saints", the name days of 4 saints on 11-15 May.
-
@PleegWat we just call it Aprilwetter.
-
-
Nice. First thunderstorm this year...
-
@dkf Thunderstorms are good for people driving electric cars. The more lightnings they collect, the more charge will be in their cars' batteries.
Plus the additional extra super power boost of the engine for the short moment when lightning hits.

For some strange reason, wind turbines are not very effective at harnessing the wind power of tornadoes.

Yesterday was a good day to be somewhere other than Nebraska and Iowa:

@Tsaukpaetra You can take it from here, I won't complain!
Btw, it was 55 mm over night - just a little more than 2 inches.

Weather Status: F*** me! That thunderbolt was close! Any closer and it would have hit the house...

@homoBalkanus said in The Official Weather Status:
@sockpuppet7 stay safe
Where my house is there is no risk of flood, still there is a lot of friends and family on the flooded area, and a lot of them volunteering to help the homeless, and my brain seems to refuse to accept it's real that half the world around me turned into some waterworld-like post-apocalyptic thing. The most rational part of my brain knows, but everything else insists this is too crazy to be happening
-
For context
and CNN made a type in the name of my state
it's Rio Grande do Sul, with an U
-
1km to the north and I would be able to tell my house appeared on CNN
-
this shit is global, we're going waterworld
-
@sockpuppet7 and yet for some people cLiMaTe ChAnGe IsNt ReAl. ( ?) But they look at these things and perform their-god-knows-what mental convolutions to justify that somehow it isn’t climate change causing these things.
Weather’s been getting freakier and freakier for years, I don’t really see how it’s debatable at this point when there are so many weird shit things going on.

Please, no! Anything but Kevin Costner!

An hilarious typo given the context.

Mostly the people who can look at numbers without emotion.

@boomzilla I preemptively created a topic in case people feel like garaging it away

Well, for starters, it isn't getting freakier and freakier. There are very few weather events that are truly 'unprecedented' almost all have happened (usually worse) within the last 200 years.

More energy in the atmosphere means more power for storms.
But what people really ought to worry about is a shift in where climate zones are, as that will be catastrophic for, well, an awful lot of land uses. Nobody knows where the tipping points are, or how much hysteresis there is in the climate system (I'm going to guess "lots" there; reality likes that sort of thing). We're fucking around, so we'll find out... eventually.
