@Medinoc Okay, I'm gonna give this one to Microsoft: I tested "Copy Image" in the NEW Teams, and this time it works as expected. So at least they fixed that.
What they broke was the Spellchecker, or at least its support for languages other than the UI's (I have English UI but communicate in French, and can't get NEW Teams to accept French as a real language).
This is the same company who thought it was a good idea when localising Win11 for the market thought that
s/zip/postcode
everywhere was good enough.s/zip/poustcoude/
Sheesh.

s/b postcoder.

I haven't found any way to manually tell it "this message is in French you dumbass!"
Not that you asked for help, but does this not work for you?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Indeed it would, if I could find the damn thing. I'm sure it was there in the ribbon at some point, because I had used it in the past when the automatic detection didn't kick in. Sadly it seems to have disappeared.

I do have that turned on. I checked. It does jack shit. It does not either switch to the languages in which it recognizes most words, nor does it switch according to the language selecting in the language bar, i.e. on switching keyboard.

I'm convinced nothing pays attention to whatever language your IME is using.
-
@Tsaukpaetra It seems so, but I vaguely recalls that's how it was supposed to work at some point.

Wait, wouldn't that also mean there's probably some forms that have "postcode code" labeled too?

Status: New! Teams will now override the Window's behaviour for notifications! Because why would you want to use that broken piece of shit system anyways?
Also, they implemented the Shell jumplist/task thing! Hoo--ray?

Teams will now override the Window's behaviour for notifications!
Teams never used Windows' standard notifications. They still don't, just slightly differently than before.

Mine did for a while. And then Windows told me it would only show just a few recent notifications or something. Then Teams told me it would enhance notifications or something (which I guess means "do a marginally different thing that looked mostly identical to the normal thing but with a pretty icon you could use to "React" to a message without directly switching windows).
Haven't seen the "new new notifications" to see how it's different.
-

It has whole new ways to get lost on a multi-display desktop. Because having just Outlook as a notification-losing wasn't special enough for MS.

Microsoft wants my feedback!
I hope "My IT admin" reads it.

It's not asking for actionable. It's asking for feedback, and I think i gave reasonable enough opinion.

Also while I'm here ... who stole my Gif reply button?
now I'm back to plain emoji's like it's 2020 or something
-
@Luhmann I suspect it was your IT, because I still see both Giphy and Sticker buttons.
-
@Bulb
That only makes sense if I'm being benched bij Internal IT because other people are flaunting their Gif's just fine.
-
@Luhmann Hm, that's weird. Than your local install probably shat itself up. Yeah, not like one couldn't expect that.
-
@Bulb
or there is some fuckery going on between versions ...

@Luhmann said in Wow! "NEW" Microsoft Teams!:
@Bulb
or there is some fuckery going on between versions ...As far as I can tell the app does update itself, so I'd consider that less likely than something effed up in the installation itself.
-
@Luhmann My crystal ball tells me that you turned off "Optional Connected Experiences" in the Privacy tab of the Options.
Since getting a gif would involve sending all your personal data to Giphy, which isn't owned by Microsoft.
-
@pcooper Strangely enough I have opened that dialog and the option—which does explicitly mention Giphy—is shown as off, but I do have the Giphy and Stickers buttons and they appear to work.
… after turning it on and off it started to work as originally expected though.
-
@pcooper
I didn't ask for help!But no ... I already checked that ...
I even unchecked it, restarted teams, activated it again, restarted teams ... annoying people with gifs beats
-
Someone on Twitter was listing all of the versions of Teams, and they made it to 6, factoring in the home vs work, the old vs new etc.
I then replied…
One Teams to rule them all
One Teams to unify them
One Teams to bring them all
And in the darkness uninst—New application installed: “New! Teams (New) (Final)”

Fun...finds a way.
-
@boomzilla
I guess I'll have to shitpost here then
-
@Luhmann
got a newer version again and now gifs are back ... they are now in the emoji button but they are there ... UI design is to much to ask for

Just openened "NEW" Teams again and got a system popup that Teams Webview Helper whatever needs to install a font. It's fucking 66MB.

It's amazing how a font these days is significantly larger than a AAA game from the mid/late nineties.

Modern website-in-a-box development includes using fonts that have things like:
- Every character used in every possible written language throughout history.
- Every currently defined Unicode emoji, in both color and monochrome versions.
- All of the images the application wants to use, crammed into the Private Use Area. Now with bitmaps, because you definitely want the text engine to render your company's logo!
-
@Parody said in Wow! "NEW" Microsoft Teams!:

Yeah, amazing. It would definitely be enough to only have them defined once in a system font, not in every font. Also, I definitely don't want Microsoft's awful emoji characters when macOS already ships with emoji characters out of the box.
-
@topspin Oh no! That is absolutely necessary. Because at any time, you must immediately know if you are looking at
or what ever!

Some of us use nearly Turing complete languages to render our logos, much smaller than shipping fonts to do the same thing.
And actually it’s becoming a bit more common to ship SVG icons rather than fonts because font tooling is shit.
But the system fonts are mostly good enough for emoji unless you want to have a consistent look between platforms because, objectively, MS emoji look shit and all the other platforms don’t.
-
@Arantor said in Wow! "NEW" Microsoft Teams!:

Yeah, that's why I see no upside in MS shipping me 66MB of their ugly emojis.
-
@topspin exactly, but the alternative is shipping you a huge-ass font or lots of little pictures.

Let's remove the emojis from the fonts and implement a separate system for them? We had them in chats before the brain rot in IT set in and we got fonts with politics in it. It's supposed to be letters, let's make it so again.
-

Why be nearly Turing-complete when Encapsulated PostScript has been around for almost 40 years? Desktop Publish Everything! :)
-
@Parody because SVG hasn’t got enough features yet?

A new driver came out for my work laptop for the "Lenovo Intelligent Thermal Solution Driver". I like looking at the release notes before installing a driver update, just so I have a rough idea of what I might be in for when I install it.
Under "Changes in This Release":
[New functions or enhancements] - Added thermal function for New Microsoft Teams.
I'm very confused as to how New Microsoft Teams requires some sort of driver update for a new "thermal function". But it does seem likely that Microsoft or Lenovo is doing something very wrong here. (That's, of course, an inclusive "or".)

My Teams window has a banner at the top saying that old Teams will be unsupported (not sure whether that's by MS, or our IT, or both) as of 1 July and you will be switched to new Teams on that date.
