@Bulb I noticed your post was jeffed, but I missed that Rhywden's was too.
Right. NVM.
That's always the issue when Jeffing. What to do about the people asking for it?

Jeff them to dedicated "Where is Jeff?" thread.
-
@MrL that's a lot more work, so you can imagine the likelihood.
-
@boomzilla only until someone builds a dedicated “Jeff this to Jeff thread” option, then it’s one click.

Sure, but a megathread full of people asking where their stuff is, or what happened, never getting an answer - a black hole of confusion and uncerainty. Would that not be glorious?

I nearly fainted reading this.

How about sending a notification of transfers, like we now get from votes and mentions? You'd think something that basic would be part of the BB package already.

Considering I was sent from Her Majesty the Queen's royal garage thread right into some mermaid saga for no apparent reason, I think this is a bit too much to ask.
-
@acrow
sure, just add it to the 99+ notifications indicator.
-
Poor showing for . The right answer is to delete the post asking for a Jeff and move on.

@Carnage but... what about my precious @Tsaukpaetra notifications?
-

I've got a bit of fundamental tremor, so I am, a little, but literally.

Well-formed snark, but as I've seen this feature approximately never and only implemented something like it once, it must somehow not be that basic.
-
You'd think omnibus rollup of consecutive posts would be table stakes, but no? Somehow no.

Does that actually work now? There was a time it didn't. I remember, because I rage-quit for about 6 months because of that specific bug.

That's impressive. When I think about the thick skin you need here, that that was did it for you.
-
@jinpa I hadn't really intended it to be a rage-quit so much as just taking a week or so off to let the notifications expire. But that was long enough to break the habit of reading every day, I realized how much more productive I was when I wasn't reading it, and I didn't miss it enough to really think of returning. As it turned out, it took about 6 months to think, "I should check what's happening on TDWTF."

I use it mostly when I have non-clearing notifications (e. g. if I middle-click the notification to open it in a new tab it seems to no longer clear by itself) and it seems to work. But now that you mention it, I do have some vague memories of it not (always?) working at some point in the past.
-
@ixvedeusi If you want to clear them individually without following the links, left-clicking on the background of the notification (inside the rectangle, but avoiding the text) seems to do that. At least for me.

Or, you know, just in the bubble that's filled in when it's unread and empty when it's read.
Unless you're short of the One True Screen Width, but that's different.
-
@izzion There's a what now? Oh. That. That probably works, too.
-
UI: the art of making something that people can use but in a way that is totally unobvious to people, except those who already know what it is and how it works.

This requires design talent - it's a common perversion of talent and needs at least a little to get started. However it's much, much easier than actually designing a self-revelating interface.
