Notifications pane no worky?
-
Throughout the day I've visited, noticed I have notifications and the popup/pane has not worked for me today when I've tried to view them.
The pane opens but notifications never load - I end up going to the full notifications page to see what's going on.
Looks like there is some JavaScript wonkiness afoot; the console reports a RequireJS issue with a mismatched anonymous define - but it's all minified so fuck knows what's going on.
Observed on iPad something or other and Firefox 100.
-
@Arantor It's been on and off for me. Earlier today it wasn't working for me, then it was, now it's not again. Maybe our require.js cdn isn't serving enough letters
-
@Arantor Didn't work an hour ago, then unfucked itself.
-
Has been consistently broken for me all day, across multiple devices.
-
Confirmed on FF 91.6.0-esr
-
Status: Need to fox the fires, apparently...
-
Yeah, same. Noticed it a bit ago for the first time, then it's been most working for a while, and for the last few hours it's been borked again.
-
And on Edge 101.0.1210.39 as well.

And now worked again after refreshed the page.

Firefox on desktop no workie but it works on firefox ios.

Hmm...maybe browser updates? Nothing on the server has changed.
Actually, I noticed in the admin panel that they've released v2.0. Really need to get back on the upgrade path.

chanting New bugs! New bugs! New bugs!
What do we want? BUGS! When do we want them? NOW!
-
And now it is broken for me despite a hard refresh. (Chrome. Windows 10.)

Yeah. For one thing, will need to add redis to the docker file. I think I can probably just add it to the current file. That only goes up to...v1.16? Not sure...been a while since I did anything with that. We're currently on 1.14, BTW. I recall seeing as high as 1.19 before 2.0 showed up.

Maybe we should just reach out to the NodeBB people to have them help us migrate from NodeBB Excessively Customized to NodeBB Standard

Meanwhile, I've had no problems.

@Zecc which browser are you on? Here I'm on Chrome Version 101.0.4951.64 (Official Build) (64-bit).
Notifications seemed spotty yesterday and today not working at all. A refresh will update the number but still no display when clicking. Have to go to the "all" page as noted in the OP.
-
It's broken for me too now. I click the bell icon and the panel's loading icon just spins and spins forever. Chrome 101 point something 32-bit.
-
Just click on "See all notifications". That still works.
Then you can middle-click one after the other...
Before noon (central european summer time), they were then deemed read. But now ... not workie those wokey.
-
Anecdotal evidence today: One work laptop (Firefox, Windows 10), bell counter and menu are broken. Count updates on refresh but not live. Another work laptop (Firefox, Windows 10): Everything works just fine
-
@hungrier I suspect there's some kind of network / websocket fuckery afoot.
-
@boomzilla Toaster popups seem to also be missing. However, I have seen new posts stream in while looking at a topic. I guess that's just normal ajax and not websocket?

Firefox "stop pestering me about 100.0, I've read the release notes and there's nothing compelling to make me go out of my way and update right away" 99.0.1
Full disclosure: I did have some issues with the notification popup not showing, about a week or so ago? I've lost track of time. But I also had issues with the rest of the forum not loading, as well as YouTube causing FF to hang temporarily. I blamed it on some sketchy JS in YT failing because of stricter security policies in FF and/or my ad blocking and/or FF using more memory than my laptop could handle because of the quantity and length of videos I had open at the time.
-
Incidentally, I usually go to "all notifications" anyway, since the notifications in the popup have a tendency to send me to posts more recent than when I left off. Or they did since I last got into this habit anyway.
-
@Zecc I prefer the popup, because I have a userscript that loads and displays the relevant post, and can mark as read right from there without going anywhere or affecting my last read position

Honestly, .

Yes, I've been getting connection lost toasters.
-
Aaand I jynxed it.
-
@Zecc Update from the machine that was working before: Refreshed, now it's not working

So the cache-buster is also broken, neat.
-
Status: I too have joined the fray!
Seems the websocket is working fine, notification events are coming through, but the message that loads the initial notifications is just... gone.
Wonder if it's a specific topic....
-
I suspect some javascript fuckery...
-
Using my home desktop, all notifications are still working but I don't dare to refresh
-
Fun fact: The mobile sidebar-thingy seems to be working just fine still.

Confirmed. Mobile works (as of right now), desktop doesn’t (as of a few hours ago, not sure if it unfucked itself).
-

not sure if it unfucked itself
Nope. It seems to work for me, randomly, maybe 1 time in 50+.
-
Also, maybe related, I've noticed the count of unread topics doesn't decrement on entering an unread topic, only on returning to /unread.

Just noticed that myself.
-
Also seeing it now after a refresh. Chrome, Windows 10.
-
It just magically started working for me within the last 10 minutes, not sure if something changed on the server side. It's been down more than up for the past several days, even across Chrome updates & restarts.
-
Still broken for me. Maybe it's only broken on some instances of node/nginx and not others?
-

Seems like a legit theory. Personally, I've always wondered how a forum with like 30 active posters needs multiple instances to serve it anyway, but I suppose that's just the way of the brave new microservice world...

Because those 30 active posters do an incredible amount of shitposting?
-

Not by me.
-
Still broken on my end.
-
Rebroke after I navigated away and came back later, I think the one or more redis instances have tipped over theory makes sense.
