Music database considerations

We are all aware of the fuckery that is dealing with time and names, as mentioned in heavily linked articles on the information superhighway. But that pales when compared to the fuckery in dealing with music. Because now we just don't have edge cases, but intentional and unintentional edge cases made by artistes.
From the obvious to the less obvious. From artists big and small. Shoutouts to the artist that named their song the contents of the EICAR test file.

“Who is this?”
“It’s Live.”
“Sounds good for live.”
…
“You know the band is called ‘Live’, right?”
“Oh! Okay!”

I just happened to come across Laughing Mantis' tracks on YT yesterday. Not surprised it was he.
-
And nobody who named their album
'; DROP TABLE ALBUMS; --
?
-
He mentions it a little bit in there but gotta unicode:
ΔXIUS LIИK - ΞRΛSΞ MΞThe entire Witch house genre loves to do that.
-
@Dragoon said in Music database considerations:

As long as it is actually unicode, that's not too bad. It's when the encoding of things varies between columns and rows that you're really in hell (and that's a serious fault during data import).

-
And I was reminded of an example that thge Swedish Media Database got wrong. Adolphson & Falk (artist) made an album called 454. The cover only had this text on the front: 4dolph5on:f4lk but the database importer thought it was a self-titled album.

Ah shit. Well, publish or perish.
Aphex Twin is in here like 5 times, which is in no way surprising, but I'd expected them to have the worst atrocities, which they don't. Maybe the other one names the songs.

Underoath released an album called Ø (Disambiguation), making the wikipedia page for Ø (disambiguation) confusing.

Then you get some idiot decide that they'll call an album “Ø_(Disambiguation)_(disambiguation)” (with that exact capitalisation) and start kicking up a stink when someone refers to it with any other capitalisation. There's nothing like telling the Wikifascists that their preferred capitalisation scheme is wrong to really bring out their furious raging over nothing important.

When I read TFA and checked the link, I was disappointed that they got the capitalisation wrong (and thus that Wiki can handle it easily, if confusingly). Now I really want the same band to release another album with the "correct" capitalisation. That would be fun.
Also most of the other items in that list shouldn't really be an issue for a database (as long as it correctly does UTF, but if they want to handle music from all over the world they have to anyway!). They're weird and confusing (and stupid), but not really an issue unless you make stupid assumptions (such as unicity of band/album/track name). If the software has to do something special to handle them, it's an indication of the ness of the software itself.

Especially if the corrected version was released in the same year.
-
@dkf that's probably too late for that, unless the first album is from this year. But yeah, it would be even better.
Make the exact same track listing as well, maybe with just a couple of tiny differences (swap two tracks, or make one track a couple of seconds longer, or make a typo in one song track...), for maximum .

Is that "Live" the verb or "Live" the adjective?

Even though the songs themselves are completely different.

My favourite: a band named brouillard, with a single member called brouillard, whose every single album is named brouillard, and of course, so is every single track
-
@Atazhaia I have a song named "This song had wrong name".
Do i count as an artiiiste?
-
@sh_code If you made a song, then yes. The qualifier of artist is 'one who makes art' and even bad art is still art. It's literally 'any work of creation', right?

That show got 8 seasons?
I remember I watched two or three episodes of that show and thought it was pretty good.
But I think I had some kind of conflict in the timeslot when it originally aired, and it was right before streaming, and so I never got into it.
There was a show called Boston Legal around at the same time, so this show might have inadvertently fallen victim to GuyWhoKilledBear's Law.
EDIT: Wait, this show is Boston Legal. The title card on the YouTube clip says it's from season 8 of The Practice, which is a different show.

I would have replied sooner if you had quoted my post rather than one that quoted that :P
It was the proper noun Live. The album that was on the tape was this, and therefore, the band was this one.

This makes God an artist … That explains a few things about the world.

@dkf Ref: "Star Trek Into Darkness", 20K words on the talk page, maybe more, arguing about how to resolve the conflict between WP's preferred capitalisation scheme and the actual name of the film...
