-Changes to the UI/UX should be minimal
Hundreds of thousands of designers around the world: NNNNNOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!
But they could go the DBA route, and work as change-prevention specialists. All they need is some numeric metrics. Granted, directly handling numbers will literally kill them, but a program could make numbers for them. Just like DBAs.
Here we go:
Microperceptual Operation Count
. Have the Design Cost Heuristics team feed the design and metadata into the tool, in some readily bureaucratizable specialist process. The tool produces some number and since no-one remotely understands what is happening, no-one questions how. What it does is compare to the prior design, scoring worse per difference.Again, just like DBAs, except they do the counting on whatever's handy, vs. with a program.

Have you already forgotten what the world was like back when it WAS easy to programmatically set associations?

Half of me still lives in that world.
Boy is it nice to just click a registry file and have all my settings right where I left them.

@Tsaukpaetra boy is it nice for the two dozen autoupdate services to fight over who gets to open PDFs and JPEGs this day.

Does that include the browser? I'd be interested in that.
Last I checked, it was rather involved.

Oh that I just have it sign in to whatever-account and let it do its cloud-sync thing.
One of these days I'll figure out how to SSO the configurator store into the LNMS confroblignator, but for now all my data is ransomed by the google anyways so the effort needed outweighs the friction.

@Arantor We almost managed to get it installed a couple times, in my youth. I think, but memory has only image fragments, that we actually got it to run once.
I bought a copy of OS/2 v4 "Warp" way back in olden times. 3 weeks later I still couldn't get it to install. I think I just threw it out. Years later I read that there was some sort of bug in the installer for that version.
I guess they shouldn't have named it after a Star Trek character.

We know the answer to this, because everyone did do that.
But that meant all the programs you don’t want, the rare times you used them, and the programs you do want, too. Nowadays it’s “nobody other than Microsoft”, which, in first order approximation, is only the programs you don’t want.
-
@topspin TBF, Microsoft stopped auto-changing associations and now only asks "are you sure you don't want to try Edge instead?" Probably because Firefox RE'd how the previous version worked.

TIL that the Task Manager is still available on Windows 11. Because

Fucking hell, why are there two taskbars?
It's not just a graphical glitch, either. They both appear to be functional.

It’s typical for @error to grab everything for himself. TWO functional task bars? Everyone else only has one half functioning task bar, at the very most.

@Zerosquare ...... Ah, right, not in this thread, I'll keep it clean.

I like to sign into the VPN before I sign into my account, because that way I don't get annoying messages about network folders and similar shit.
When I use my smart card for authorization, the dialog that takes the PIN is retarded. I enter the PIN, hit enter and...nothing. It just sits there. Not even frozen. The OK and Cancel buttons still seem to be active. A few seconds later it disappears because apparently it's done whatever it needed to do, but apparently "flat" design now means not providing feedback to the user.

It's a horrible disease. I don't believe it was the "flat" design that started this, though. It largely coincided, it seems, but it was webshit, with its profound devil-may-care attitude and low barrier to entry. From there it was a slippery slope, and the poison seeped into all "apps".

Dunno if Win11 or hardware, but my work PC occasionally gets stuck running the CPU at the lowest possible power for no reason. Like I power on the computer while the battery is at 100% and it takes 10 minutes to boot because the CPU is running at 800 MHz (instead of near the 2.4 GHz base speed) despite is doing a lot of work starting everything up.

The Things That Remind You Of WTDWTF Users Thread is...
-
@Atazhaia Check CPU temps? I had a machine where the CPU cooler was improperly mounted and the CPU just always thermally throttled. If the machine was idle for long enough, the temps would come down slightly (but immediately spike again if I did anything demanding).
-
@cvi Doesn't seem to be temp related, as CPU power scaling starts working again after I has put the computer in sleep and then wakes it up again.

I run my CPU at 1x so the fans don't spin.
Well, they wouldn't spin, but they still do because I can't control all of them.
-
@Tsaukpaetra Your post has several
.
: Running CPU at 1x (multiplier I guess) which would be 100 MHz.
: Getting the CPU to run at 1x multiplier in the first place.
: Doing it so the fans wont spin.
: Which they wouldn't do anyway.
: But some of them are spinning even if they wouldn't spin.
: Because they are uncontrollable.
If it would be any other person I would have several questions, but as it is you I have none and are just accepting these facts.
