Why are the Garage rules in the Garage?

Why is this topic in the Garage?
It seems like it's written to users who are considering joining the Garage.
Users who are considering joining the Garage can't see it because it's hidden in the Garage.
Maybe we should Jeff that post/topic to Meta or something.

I disagree. I feel that having the instructions for opening the box be inside the box is in keeping with the greater Garage ethos.

@GuyWhoKilledBear from an angle of defense-in-depth, not having the group requirements be crawlable means a bot smart enough to read the page for groups to join can't get in that way, it would have to be dumb enough not to care about semantics and just join every group it ever saw. But, crawlers tend not to POST unless they're malicious and there's probably a
robots.txt
or similar saying they're not even allowed to (and then there's XSRF defenses...).All in all though, the instructions being inside the box and starting with "Use included crowbar to open box" is just fitting. It's right. I have no principles but I stand by them.

ISTR @apapadimoulis has explained this somewhere, possibly in a restricted place, but it's his handiwork so pester him.

@coderpatsy I have been summoned, and so I appear...

- but also, it started there as a sort of group discussion (there was a companion thread), and members stopped complaining about it, so I guess that means the discussion has ended!
Maybe we should Jeff that post/topic to Meta or something.
Good idea... what do the @garage-mods think? If you do that, it'd be nice to link/edit the WTF is WTDWTF (Getting Started, FAQ, History) topic.

@sloosecannon that sounds interesting....... but it's just not the same though. There's just something special about seeming my own name .
Like hearing the wonderful sound of my own voice and wishing I could hear myself talk like that all the time, seeing my own name reminds that I really am as important as I believe I am.

I've done voice-over, and then aged that same voice for an additional 2 decades over a slow cigarette and alcohol fire. I sound like rich Corinthian leather. It brings me actual sadness that I cannot fully hear how good I would sound saying what I'm typing. So I am! And I have been this whole time.

You mean live, and not recorded right? Because recorded self-voices are the most awful thing in the history of awful.

You gotta spend time on the mic. "Spend time on the mic". "Spend time, on the mic", "Spend, time on the mic"
