Drafts always come up with every new window and block half of the navigation controls when minimized.

You can tell none of the NodeBB duhvelopers actually use NodeBB that much. I have half a dozen drafts. Every time I open a new window to the forum, they all pop up and have to be dismissed before I can do anything. On desktop, this is inconvenient, especially so since they removed the ability to resize the draft pane below 80% of the screen because . The little eye icon (visible?) on top of the red boob appears to have no meaning as all must be clicked on, some twice to make sure it knows it's visible and can be dismissed by the second click.
On mobile, this is a fucking disaster because they fill the screen and Chrome mobile still can't figure out hit detection or where to draw. It sometimes places the "window handle" off screen, meaning I have to click on the formatting menu below where I think the minimize button is (the italics button if you were wondering). Several times because, again, they all pop up every time it thinks I've lost my connection even though I haven't.
Speaking of mobile, the drafts also get in the way of everything when they're minimized. Five or six (depends on what Chrome feels like because ) red boobs per line. They hover right over that blue post navigation bar (which is borderline useless moving one post at a time anyway) at the bottom and block access to it. They also hover over the next line of controls and block access to them. That line could be the previous/next page buttons or it could be the regular reply button. Because apparently the hit detection region is a full square plus padding/margin, not the red circle, so it blocks access even with a fucking stylus.
Overall it's a stupid way to provide access to drafts, which are a good feature to have, but I can almost smell the Jeffers readying their "you don't need..." excuses for such a ridiculously poor UI.

Discourse devs use Discourse as their fucking bug tracker, and it didn't make it any better.

Dismissing the drafts works fine for me, but if there is a bug somewhere then keep in mind we're not exactly on the latest version.

It's the fact that you have to dismiss all of them every time it thinks you've lost your connection. The lousy hit detection just makes it even worse.
-
@Zenith I dismiss them once and they don't come back ever.

Or perchance, they just arn't using it like that. I don' think I have ever had more than 1 draft active on here.
Don't misconstrue my statement, it might very well be a bug that you have found, just one that falls outside of "normal" usage.
-
@Dragoon To be fair, I had a draft post on the go for a few days, and it was indeed annoying to have to minimize it every time I refreshed or opened a new tab.

Not intentionally, anyway. I've had two on rare occasions, but only because started a a second draft instead of continuing to edit an existing one, or something like that. I'm pretty sure I've never intentionally worked on two separate posts simultaneously.

We're not even on a stable version. :sigh: Gotta get back on that.

It doesn't move by post anyways. Hello Pie Flavor!

There's a stable version?

Well, there are versions that are released as versions. What we are on is wherever they were when Ben melted down. I believe because they'd kinda-sorta implemented something he wanted (it might have been the "DoS the forum by downloading all my data" feature, but not 100% on that) but the nodebb devs hadn't actually formally tagged and released it yet. From the admin console:
The "-7" is what you might call a clue.

"Borderline" useless? It useless for navigation and I only hit it on accident, so it has negative value in my opinion.

I personally only use it for going to the top of the thread so I can get the toaster to go to the bookmark.

Or sometimes to skip to the end when I don't care to read the 300 posts of people arguing about some minutae

Fascinating.
