@boomzilla At least looking it up on the phone is like 10 minutes. Imagine the toll on sleep when you have to somehow find that in a 20-band encyclopedia.

Because someone mentioned Ice Bucket Challenge elsethread, I went googling...
While the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised significant funds for the ALS Association, there are risks associated with the stunt when it’s done incorrectly. Two deaths have already been linked to the challenge, the first related to drowning, while another was associated with a heart attack after the participant drank too much bourbon.

Scott Alexander on critique of his critique: of a movie:
Look, there’s a weird game called “movie criticism”, where you take a movie as a jumping-off point to have thoughts on Society or the Human Condition. In the real world, people watch movies because they’re funny, or they have cool action sequences, or because the lead actress is really hot. But the rules of the “movie criticism” game say you have to ignore this stuff and treat them as deep commentary. I agree this game is not as fun as, say, Civilization IV: Fall From Heaven. But I have deliberately limited the amount of time I play that game for the sake of my sanity and my career, which means I need to play other games, and the “movie criticism” game seems okay.
Why the rest of you read this stuff, I don’t know.

FYI, Boomzilla was making a reference to Swampy, who swears by both cannabinoids and elderberry.

@Boner I've never done that, but I've thought about it.

You'd need to be good enough at programming to pass an interview and get the job, and also locate a bug within hours and successfully fix it - but not good enough to fix through decompilation.
And I have fixed programs through decompilation in the past. It's not that hard.

For values of "fixed" equal to "I don't have to pay for it"? Yes.

@topspin I assure you I fixed programs for other reasons too.

Maintenance can be painful, especially if the software updates frequently.
