Many cats turned on electric stoves with their furry paws
- They couldn't do that when we still used round knobs instead of touch points.
- Even then there has to be something to set of fire on that stove, otherwise it will heat up, reach the maximum temperature because nothing is soaking up the heat, and turn off again.
I still have round knobs on the gas half of my cooker and I don't leave pots on the induction plates on the other half, induction having the additional benefit that it won't turn on at all without something ferromagnetic on it.

Is an induction stove on low an attractive source of heat for a cat?
-
@PleegWat No, because it can't be kept running without a pot on it. Because it is not giving out heat itself, it heats a piece of iron lying on top of it using magnetic induction. When the plate is not completely covered with a pan or a pot (with iron bottom – not all pots can be used), the cooker won't turn on at all (the inductance of the coil is too low without something above it acting as a magnetic core and the electronic senses that). I often don't even turn it off, just take the pan and it turns off itself in a couple of seconds. And then the glass is warm for a while, but rarely really hot, because it was only heated from the pan, not the other way around.
(main disadvantage of the thing is that it needs 3-phase 400V power input)

@error and that's why you keep plates inside cabinets.

It's a cat. It'll fit in virtually any cardboard box.

@Zerosquare I mean that's warm and enclosed space for the win, right?

@Arantor

Such hashtag (ab)use. So little inclination to follow link.

@DogsB One time, when on vacation, my (then) wife and kids were in a yarn store taking a knitting class. Having no interest in the class, I was killing time just wandering around the store. They had a book on crafting with pet hair. In most cases, it needs to be blended with wool or some other fiber before being spun into yarn, because most pet hair isn't long enough to make yarn that doesn't just fall apart.
As for why, . I guess some people just like being reminded of their pets, especially if the pets aren't around any more.
