The navigation bar buttons, they do nothing
-
At the bottom of the page is this navigation bar that 1) shows you how far in the thread you are, and 2) has buttons to go back/forward one post or all to the front/end. They’ve never been particularly useful, as going back one page would make more sense than one post, but at least if you happened to be at the top of a page (where, unlike the bottom, are no page navigation buttons) you could use “go back one post” to go back one page.
Well, no more. If I tap one of the buttons, nothing happens. If I hold on it longer, some thing pops up to move the position of the blue bar around. Which is of course completely imprecise and useless to go back a page in a mega-thread.No, I didn’t want to go to post 4031, I wanted to click the button. TYVM.

“go back one post”
Another person who thinks that's what the page up button does!
Amazing, NodeBB!
-
@Tsaukpaetra Equally useless, but doesn’t matter since it doesn’t do zip anymore.

I don't hold down links expecting them to do the same thing as tapping. Besides that, WOMM.
Least you could do is mention what browser you're using. Do you even bug report?
-
@Tsaukpaetra Well, tapping does nothing, as explained.
And safari on iOS.

It mostly works for me on Safari on iOS - seems to occasionally click whatever's under the bar it rather than the button but mostly it goes up a post.
Chrome on iOS it works.I only logged in to check that, mobile is awful.

are you on about? It goes up one page. It's the same thing that happens when you press the PG Up button on a keyboard.
Just because your screen is so small that one post takes up one page doesn't mean the button goes up one page.
OMG am I being gaslit right now?

So it goes up approximately one screen view. This is not necessarily one page.

Screen or page, it doesn't matter. It's certainly not a post though, except as coincidence.

not a post though
Yeah, I'll accept that (I don't use mobile, so I'd tried it out quickly) but it doesn't help @topspin.
However far it's supposed to navigate, it doesn't for them.

Well I already gave the manufacturer-approved response. They clearly need a new phone! 😉
-
@Tsaukpaetra
Yeah, fine, I’ll accept this as “not a bug, you’re tapping it wrong.”
Maybe it’s PEBKAC then, but my fingers aren’t exactly fat. Not great usability.

I'll agree on that. Wish it could be disabled in a manner similar to how we got the sliding menu drag thing to be able to be disabled.
But I'm too to open a ticket to get it changed.

Disabling that made things a lot better.

This is news to me, I didn't realise that setting had been added. I'm glad I won't have to put up with accidentally jumping up by 20-100 posts when I try to scroll down on mobile anymore.

It's not a feature yet though...

Sorry, I seem to have completely misread your post and the label of the setting. It must have been wishful thinking.
I'll be glad to disable the sliding menu anyway, that was a bit annoying.

@ben_lubar can we get a @nodebb group so we don't have to individually mention @julianlam and @barisu and anyone else interesting in bug threads?

When did that happen? I hate that "feature"

isn't that what @tdwtf-nodebb-development is for?

@ben_lubar that's kinda long.
-
@ben_lubar It looks like , and are no longer interested then.
Can't blame them really.

Originally it was for TDWTF people doing stuff. There's a lot less of that these days, though.
-
We're still around, but significantly less so due to other concerns at work. Unfortunately I can't spend all my time here, but please understand we do appreciate bug reports all the same, just easier to track when it's made against the GitHub repo 🙂
-
@julianlam Would it help if we just reported all bugs as replies to the above post?
-
-
What if we had a bot that crossposted bug threads with a command in them to the issue tracker?
-
The idea behind posting things here first was so we could figure out if the issue was some TDWTF customization or whatever before reporting at github.
