Valve ports Bejeweled 2 Deluxe to Linux

At this rate, it won't be long until Linux users can enjoy sudoku or Fruit Ninja
-
@hungrier At least they've got TF2.

For the record, they also ported NieR:Automata and a bunch of other very recent graphically-intensive AAA 3D games, but... Bejeweled 2 Deluxe was somehow on their list of launch priorities.

TF2 was not involved in this because it already runs natively on Linux and I have the butt-penguin to prove it.

It's ok people, they have Doom, Doom 2 and Ultimate Doom on the list!
Because that's the way I'll run Doom, from Steam using tweaked Wine, instead of just using gzdoom or zandonorum...
I mean, I appreciate the effort Valve, but you have some weird priorities...
-
@Onyx The Doom linked to by the article is Doom 2016, not the original Doom.
-
@Choonster okay, but they still link to Doom 2 and Ultimate Doom regardless.
I might try to install Doom (2016) through it, actually. And in Windows. And in my Windows VM with VGA passthrough. Wonder what performance is gonna look like comparatively. Though I'd need to fuck around with drivers to get my GTX 1060 working on Linux again instead of it being in passthrough... maybe I should just install Ubuntu on a different drive and save myself the trouble of doing that and convincing Steam to work properly on Debian... hmmm...
-
@Onyx For us tech people, the real game is getting it to work.

We've already got sudoku.
We've even got minesweeper.

@ben_lubar If a game runs on OpenGL, it should be trivial to port to Linux, right?
I mean, what system calls do most games even depend on? Read files, read mouse and keyboard, draw 3D graphics, open network sockets... what else?
Unfortunately in practice, OpenGL isn't anywhere as compatible as it claims to be.

You wouldn't happen to also have the earbuds that prove it runs on Mac, right? I'll give you a weapon of your choice for them!

Hardcoded paths to
C:\Program Files (x86)\InitechGames\WtfGame\Resources\

Audio. Audio can be a PITA.

@mott555 Hmmm... "\" is an acceptable character in a Linux filename, so you could create a folder literally named that inside the current working directory and the game could just open it!
Probably not the easiest solution... but it's a solution.

Since it's running in Wine anyway so it can load PE executables, why not just use Wine's Windows API emulation?
-
@ben_lubar cuz that's too easy and not very funny.
-
@anonymous234 None of this is funny.

I have 100s of games on my Linux. So many, I don't use all of them. But I think he was being facetious anyway.

Oh come on, who could be so stupid as to do something retarded like this...?
(I wanted to post some snapshot of my
$HOME
but apparently it's not reappeared since last time I nuked it)

A hack on top of a hack. I like it.
