Copying and pasting emails. Inventing meaningless tasks for others. Just looking busy. Why do so many people feel their work is completely unnecessary?
An article/essay about the Pointless Job.
Headlining example:
“I worked as a museum guard for a global security company in a museum where one exhibition room was left unused. My job was to guard that empty room, ensuring no museum guests touched the, well, nothing in the room and ensure nobody set any fires. To keep my mind sharp and attention undivided, I was forbidden any form of mental stimulation, like books, phones, etc. As nobody was ever there, I sat still and twiddled my thumbs for seven and a half hours, waiting for the fire alarm to sound. If it did, I was to calmly stand up and walk out. That was it.”

That guard had no idea. He was guarding an very important piece or art called "The Empty Room" If anything was placed in that room it would have destroyed the message and meaning of the original intent, creating a brand new piece of art at the expense of the original. This room had to remain empty and guarded from any also actually entering the room as over time the dust collects naturally adding to the ecstatic of "The Empty Room".

If you can do that, you’ve got better self-control than I do. I doubt I’d make it through seven and a half minutes without actively looking for something — anything — to do to keep myself occupied.

For the record, I'm not British, I have no idea what the reputation of The Guardian is (every time I post ANY British paper I seem to get people telling me it's the "wrong one"), and the only thread pollution I see at the moment started with Rhywden started bitching.

The artistry of "The Empty Room" naturally creates an echo chamber. hence why "The Empty Room" had to be guarded. Apparently that guard was twiddling his thumbs to much and let someone walk in.

Very very liberal. Somewhat more inclined to do investigative journalism than most of the rest of the UK printed press (which tend to be more right wing, except for a small number of publications that nobody reads).
