It makes me think "how little do you have in your life that you go looking for single pixel alignment issues?"
Ahem. Have you forgotten where you are?
I thought we were more about 3 pixel issues.

Not only did you update to a version of Wordpress that's just barely over 3 months old-- and is also the latest version-- and it's the first release of a major version, with no updates, patches or security fixes yet.
To put it softly: are you a goddamn idiot or just massively brain damaged?Simultaneous with that release, Automattic said "... and all previous versions of WordPress are immediately fully unsupported. So there. Pbbbbbbbt."
What kind of idiot or massively brain damaged creature runs outdated, unsupported WP versions?

Don't you have to be mildly brain damaged to run any version of wordpress, no matter how recent or supported?

I didn't update. It auto-updated. WordPress is so WTF it will auto-update from Version 4 to Version 5.
-
it will auto-update from Version 4 to Version 5.
Only if you don't disable auto-update.
Also, it can't update if the webserver doesn't have write access

It was just an autoconfigured WordPress droplet from Digital Ocean.
Also, it's begged me to update it before. Just not on the Version 4 -> Version 5 update. Only on minor updates.

This is from the Google calendar web page:
I can't help but see that as a lit cigarette. As the tooltip shows, though, it's for their "Tasks" app.
Looks like an astronaut shaking the last drop of pee but forgetting to use the space station's suction cup.
The NASA blue doesn't help.
And I thought the penis swastika thing was pushing it.

TIL about VisualElementsManifest.xml. It's a magic file that allows changing background color of icons in Start menu. Being an application manifest, it's applied on per-application basis. In particular, it doesn't apply to shortcut you've made to run the application through proxy program, and set the shortcut to the same icon as the application. There is no way to set it for this specific shortcut - only for the whole proxy program.
-
It's a preview of the next UI Windows 10 will use. To fully embrace minimalism, icons will be replaced by squares of color.

To quote Douglas Adams: there is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I18N and L10N are hard. I just sent the following message to my healthcare provider's customer service:
English is my primary language and the only one in which I am fluent and use in everyday life. I normally use My Health Online in English. However, it is currently appearing for me in a mix of English and Spanish. For example, this form is mostly in English, however message limit text currently says "664 de 1000 caracteres restantes". The home page text that should say something to the effect of "overdue preventative services" instead says "Recordatorios de salud ya pasados de fecha", and the "MAKE APPOINTMENT" button says "PEDIR CITA".
If I view the page in Spanish, it is entirely in Spanish, but when I switch back to English, it is again a mix of English and Spanish.
-
@HardwareGeek: Expect to receive an answer in a mix of English and Spanish.

I don't really care whether I get an answer if they fix the website; that would be a sufficient answer for me.
Apparently this isn't the first time it's happened. I showed that to a friend who works for the healthcare company, and she said, "That's happened to me, too."
-
@HardwareGeek Update: As of this morning, no answer, but the website is back in English. (I didn't check whether the Spanish version is half English now.)

E_AS_DESIGNED: We're trying to be more inclusive of our Mexican immigrants. Since they don't know how to switch languages, we found it's much more effective to just mix. PEBCAK: User needs to learn Spanish.

Actually, I don't. I clicked on the wrong file. Where's the cancel button?
Okay, I don't really need a cancel button. Where's the window close button or, for that matter, title bar?Looks like ESC works to dismiss the dialog.
Wait, actually clicking anywhere outside the dialog to make it lose focus dismisses it. What? What fresh UI hell is this?
-

What fresh UI hell is this?
Mobile UI.
Yes. I'm not carrying around two monitors. Please take it back!

I did get an answer (entirely in English) last night. Known problem. Working on it. Sorry for any inconvenience. Yada, yada.

And now it's mixing Hebrew with it
Well, yada' is a Hebrew word, but it appears to be unrelated to "yada, yada." In Hebrew, it is a verb meaning know, perceive, or recognize.
None of the dictionaries I found that give a definition of yada in the "yada, yada" sense give an etymology for it, but the first recorded appearance is 1967, according to Merriam Webster. My guess would have been Yiddish, but who knows.

For me, it depends. It's pretty nice for Open With dialog, as you don't end up with one staying open for hours because you forgot about it and it got covered by other windows. It's extremely annoying for websites, though - especially Twitter.
-
@Gąska You're right about Twitter, I hadn't thought about it but it is extremely annoying there.

Yeah, but that's not really the UI's fault.

Good to know the Steam client respects my privacy.
(it becomes visible after I navigate to this screen again, but why does the first time always fail?)
-
@Zecc It seems to semi-log me out every time I put the computer to sleep then wake it back up.

What do you call "every square millimeter of the website if covered with onclick handlers that take you away from what you're reading right now, including the blank space in the background" if not UI?

My deleted post was an attempt to make the same joke, but even less successful. That's why I deleted it.

Canada is not amused.
I think Canada would not be amused when Bangalore was in Canada instead of Kannada.
-
@BernieTheBernie Would the Bangalorians have to learn to speak French? That would be amusing.
-
@HardwareGeek said in UI Bites:

Not at all.
The only French province is Quebec, and a lot of people in Quebec manage to live all their lives without learning a single word of it.

@Cursorkeys I get that frequently.

No doubt some European French would say all of the people in Quebec manage to live all their lives without learning a single word of French.
