Yes.

@boomzilla from the Original File. The next one ends with "let's see if it happens again", but I've forgot it - do that one.

Actually, the IT engineer solution would equate to trying to start a second time. Which most people will try. And the other three are probably distinguishable by ear.

@Zerosquare there is a third school of thought, that programmers will build self-managing AIs that don't need programming and then all software will be written by AI.
But we need to evolve AI beyond statistical models before that's ever realistically a consideration...

That's probably why at least some of the programmers are laughing so hard.

Eh, we really just need AI that is better than the average programmer. As long as we get a half assed natural language processor going, current day AI will eat a lot of programmer jobs.
The hard problem is of course natural language processing, even shit programmers don't seem to be able to do that.

requirements documentsuser stories? PM types need to learn how to speak natural language before AI processing is even going to hope to have a chance.

This explains a lot about SkyNet...

There is a huge difference between finding a probably correct snippet that someone who understands it can work from it, and writing working code from vague natural language description alone.

So, not using SO as a source.

Remember that episode of Star Trek where Kirk was telling the henchmen how to play a card game? That's how user's describe requirements.

I'll concede that point.

I probably wouldn't classify that as patience, though.

Treatment for the patients? Sounds like a non-blocking consumer.

TIL it's an aromatic compound. Code smells by design.

I had a doctor comment on how bad my penmanship is. (To be fair, my penmanship when I'm writing something for someone else is marginally better than when I'm just writing it for me.)

Congratulations, you have indeed gotten the joke. Have you considered "hey-o" as a thing to say when this occurs? Nobody's using it. Anymore.
