some Ben should fix that.

It looks, to my untrained eye, like it at least made it all the way through them that time, though...
-
@accalia now they're all fixed. I just need https://github.com/barisusakli/nodebb-plugin-dbsearch/pull/35 merged and the version number in my branch updated for the last two to pass.
I guess this means I should get an actual instance running instead of just this testing stuff.

All this faffing about with tests is all fine and well, but what's the actual performance?

Also my opinion of Mongo was never all that negative to begin with.
Haha, @julianlam, no hope for you.
TBH, you're being treated fairly well, here. Have you seen the discopocalypse thread? There were some real harsh words said there. Reading that I got the thought I'd fire WTDWTF too, if I were in Jeff's shoes.

I always thought most people on this site would be Hufflepuff.
I mean, what do we do here? We huff, and we puff, all the time!
...
I'll see myself out.

Two reasons for that:
- He listens to our complaints and actually addresses them when he can
- He's not interfering with how we run our shit

To be honest it was @end who pissed us off to start with - we only reciprocated.
And that was the start of the feedback loop.

speaking of someone who saw the discopocalypse first hand...... @end actually got treated okay when he wasn't being confrontational, not quite as good as we've been treating @julianlam, but then @julianlam doesn't have a history of being confrontational at all, so there's that.
what got @end the vitriol was when he became hostile and confrontational, oh and petty, can't forget that. And well we golden ruled him there, if he treats us that way that must mean he wants to be treated that way, right?

@accalia He fundamentally misunderstood the culture here, tried to join in and got it spectacularly wrong. That didn't help, especially along with his not reacting well to our brand of feedback

he didn't try to join the culture here. he tried to get us to join his cult ur.
that's rather why the whole plan went bottom side topwise.
-
@accalia said in I converted NodeBB to use a PostgreSQL database. AMA.:

He made a couple of half arsed attempts, like responding to bug reports with stupid memes. There was always the undercurrent of thinking he was better than us, though

again, i disagree that joining us was his intention, ever. he wanted us to join him, and when he played things our ways it was always with the intent to make us his.
and i object to being owned by another person. @Perverted_Vixen already owns me and she doesn't like to share. And i agree with her.

I was about to mention that; that was particularly infuriating. We use stupid memes all over the place, but we sure don't expect a... well, vendor-equivalent to use stupid memes in response to good faith bug reports.

@blakeyrat I'm glad to hear that your opinion of MongoDB has changed over the years. Almost gives me hope that one day you'll like NodeBB too.
No, he hates it, when he say:
@blakeyrat said in I converted NodeBB to use a PostgreSQL database. AMA.:
the problem was people not understanding what it was for and using it in inappropriate contexts.
It's because of Mongo's terrible UI and documentation people don't understand it and use it wrong.

Well, yeah; they think it's a relational database and try to use it when they need one.

Not even just vendors, really. I mean, look how nasty things get when we use stupid memes or make jokes in help threads. It sucks to have a problem and be laughed at in response.

Point taken*. It's a delicate balance for me, because I'd love to jump into your community head-first, but:
- I doubt I could keep up
- It wouldn't be possible to separate my work persona and my, um.. personal persona.
Then again, who knows how many sockpuppet accounts I have here?
* Yes, I know you're not talking about me, but it does apply to me as well, in a way.

I generally don't try. I write professionally in the official Sockbot update threads, and otherwise just chill.

@yamikuronue Nobody at any place I've ever worked knows "Blakeyrat" exists, with two exceptions both of whom I trust and one guy who figured it out weirdly enough because he used to pair program with one of the exceptions, and the exception played one of my YouTube videos, and he recognized my voice like 2 years later. Go figure. He was cool though.
One thing that keeps me from putting my writing online (well mostly an excuse, but...) is that I'm not sure I could handle three firewalled identities.

Oh, nobody offline knows about me being here. I'm talking about providing support for sockbot in the same place I hang out as a regular user. It's no weirder than being a mod and also a user, really.

You can ask, but I haven't had a chance to fine-tune the PostgreSQL stuff yet. It's definitely about the same as MongoDB for speed, but it could be better with some craftily designed indexes.
