I've hit everybody in my network, now I try here: electrical engineer experience?

What I don't get is, if the customer can afford a cable box, PS4, and an Xbox One, how could he not afford a surround sound receiver to plug them all into?
The new $350 Yamaha at work can do it, and came with a remote. My used, 10 year old, $89 Denon does what you're asking for, came with a remote, and even has an HDMI output in the front.

OK. THAT should have been your first post in this thread, not some vague talk of "I've got an idea .... decoding S/PDIF, ....digital to analog conversion, etc." Now I actually understand what you're talking about.
No you don't, I haven't described the actual product we were considering building in this thread yet. (And before you ask, no I won't.)
And since the thread has turned to shit because Intercourse came out of his cave, I'm not going to read the rest of your long-ass post based on a wrong assumption.

Do you even read what you post? Or do you have some sort of amnesia problem?

Because they have a cable box, a PS4 and an Xbox One all sitting within 5 feet of each other and don't want to have to replug their 7.1 headsets (or receiver) every time they switch devices.
Oh well. Lesson learned.

The actual product requires a mixer, I gave a dumb example which could be solved with dumb devices that already exist, and the fact that I typed it makes me dumb (ask Intercourse if you want someone to tell you how stupid I am for hours on end).
Because I gave a bad example, now everybody's focused on that and not actually answering the questions in the top post and basically it's all turned into a huge shithole I'm going to ignore as soon as I hit the Submit button.

Dude, just sign up to mfg.com and tell them what kind of project you want to do, and prototypers/manufacturers will get in touch with you. You can even describe it generically, like
"Looking to manufacture small device with digital audio mixer and
<generic description of secret sauce>
."

@blakeyrat have you considered your local university? They are often looking for thesis projects, and (at least here) are willing to work under a NDA.
... They still need to publish a thesis though, so a certain degree of openness is required, but you can negotiate that.
Also, Good luck on your new job, hope you find time to come back to this soon.
-
@blakeyrat if you have no desire to make a business out of this, and you just want to buy a product, why are you being so coy about the idea is? Maybe someone else will hear the idea, think it is awesome and run with it?

@Polygeekery maybe he is protecting the executive privilege of @blakeycat

if you're looking for a pair, get the virtual ones. which is good because they're cheaper too.
I was born with a real pair and it didn't cost me anything.
Oh, you're talking about headphones, nevermind

@blakeyrat said in I've hit everybody in my network, now I try here: electrical engineer experience?:
@Polygeekery Well by all means, keep telling me how wrong stupid and horrible I am.
Didn't you specifically ask for it ?
@blakeyrat said in I've hit everybody in my network, now I try here: electrical engineer experience?:
But stuff like this is exactly why I want an expert to look at what we've come up with and tell us it's stupid in like 10 seconds.

Hmm.... I actually can't tell if the pair I have right now is the same pair I was ostensibly born with...
Should I be concerned?

Should I be concerned?
Yes.
Not because of that, but just in general, all the time.

You should get rid of the shoulder aliens.
There is no need to resort to violence.
