People look up to people like celebrities and try to emulate them to better themselves ...
As a counterpoint I submit Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

That's not a counterpoint ... it just indicates that the universe has build stupider people

I don't think it's possible for Keith Richards to actually die: I think he'll instead regenerate into a new rock star, possibly also called Keith Richards.

@Lorne-Kates This is a more subtle form of "Fuck you, give me money."

He should use the money to put a hit out on her.

What? What is your point! Don't keep me suspended!

@anotherusername There was also this one:
-
Not quite as famous, but
-
-
@coldandtired Noice.
Except that Lemmy actually died in 2015. For which gazumping, 2016 has been furiously overcompensating all year.
-
@flabdablet The poor guy who made that has a full-time job updating it.

http://tomandlorenzo.com/2016/12/twenty-worst-red-carpet-looks-2016-top-five/
What’s “great” about this look is that it combines so many awful red carpet trends: the overuse of black lace, the “I just survived an attack” aesthetic, and of course, the proliferation of Barbie Crotch.
-
Those are fucking awful.

Does anyone actually have some numbers? Is this year that much worse?
TLDR: Betteridge wins.
-
@PJH I want someone to write an article titled "Does Betteridge's Law always apply?"
-
@RaceProUK The exception confirms the rule.
-
As I read somewhere: people are going to be very disappointed when 2017 comes and celebrities keep dying.

But it wouldn't be an exception...

They can speak for themselves.
-
@PJH There is probably a fraction of newspaper articles (<1%) for which Betteridge's Law does not hold. Hence, the title "Does Betteridge's Law always apply?" can be answered with "No" as expected.
-
@dse Larry David would interview the Grim Reaper, while asking him "So why do you cause death" and throughout the rest of the interview the Grim Reaper would spend a lot of time questioning his morality, but the time he got back to do his Job old Larry would have left the set.

@lucas1 said in 2016 - Brutal for celebrities:
Grim Reaper [...] "So why do you cause death"
How did Pratchett put that again? I DO NOT CAUSE DEATH. I ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN.
-
I never really read much, I been reading some on my Kindle. But they are books of his that come up on offer as I am not really.

Which was my point. (And I'm certain the fraction would be greater than 1%.)
I think the attempt was to generate a self-referential article title that was paradoxical such as
This article lies - click here to see why
Basically a title that implies Betteridges law is always true, but generates an answer that is
yes

Is there anyone out there to whom that sentence makes sense? If so, are you sober? Also, would you mind translating it into English? Thanks.

@Karla
They couldn't be bothered to offset it with the general death tole in their reference population could they.
-
Six past midnight 2017 here. Happy new year, all.
-
Anyone famous wanting to get on the bandwagon, you still have 9 hours and two minutes to get your death on.
-

By 2017, the only celebrities left will be the ones no one cares if they die.
Like, if Shai LeBeef was flying a plane in which Bill Cosby was raping Paris Hilton, and the plane crashed, who cares?
-
To everyone celebrating that their favorite celeb survived 2016, just remember:
Most celebs live in LA, which is in a timezone behind yours.
You just jinxed your favorite celebrity. Good job.

There is a story, that may or may not be true, about Robin Williams being interviewed on a German talk show. When he was asked "Why are there so few German comedians?" he answered "Maybe it's because you killed them all".

Actor William Christopher, best known as Father Mulcahy from the TV Show MASH just makes it onto the list at the last minute.

I was talking to one of my clients who is a club DJ. He told me that someone died in his Club on New Years Eve and he didn't know until the gig was over.

Last-of-the-Year-IL:
- The inventor of the Heimlich Maneuver was still alive;
- He died in December 2016.
AFAICT his death was un-ironic.

Noes, not Bambi's father!
He was so young.
