I can't unlock my phone. I am TR :wtf:

I can't unlock my phone. Please someone give me hope that I do not have to erase it.
I have an Android LG G4, I set a knock code and a back up pin. I saved both of those in LastPass. My google account is saved in LastPass.
I must have screwed up the knock code too many times last night ( may have had something to do with it). I am TR
This morning, I try to enter PIN and google credentials. It says they are invalid. I changed my google password to something easier to type on phone in case I was messing it up.
I've tried these:
http://trendblog.net/how-to-bypass-android-phone-lock-screen-pattern-pin-password/
Using ADM just puts another screen and all I can do is use the back button to get back to the Backup Pin/Account Unlock screen.

-
make sure your phone is connected to the Internet when trying the Google password option, other than that, not sure.
-
Android Studio takes forever to set up.
I was definitely connected, I heard the email sound when I changed my password.

@Jarry said in I can't unlock my phone. I am TR :
i believe you'll be able to reboot it in recovery mode with that...
I don't think I can do this.
I'd have to get to settings to allow developer options.
db devices
does not see my phone

@e4tmyl33t said in I can't unlock my phone. I am TR :
Method 1 - goes back to the same screen. I tried twice.
Method 2 - requires root access
Method 3 - require access to settings change developer options

@Karla Also isn't that still just to do a factory reset. If that's what I have to do then I might as well just use google to erase it.

It is indeed. At this point, I don't believe you have many other options...
-
@Karla Did you try this:
First item: Reset your pattern with your Google Account
Edit: I know it's for Nexus devices, but maybe it would work on non-Nexus ones

I just sent the Erase from google.
Please no one tell me how I can fix it now!!!!!

OK, I won't.

This option applies only to devices running Android 4.4 or below that have a pattern passcode set up.
http://trendblog.net/how-to-bypass-android-phone-lock-screen-pattern-pin-password/
Unlock your Android lock screen pattern with your Google Login (only Android 4.4 and below)So... did they remove that option? WhyTF?

What are you going to do that an attacker who stole/found your phone wouldn't be able to do?
-
Thanks!

And now I am screwed because I changed the gmail password.

Enter the correct PIN, which she knows. That's supposed to unlock the phone, but apparently it's not working.
Alternatively, reset the PIN from her Google account. That's supposed to work too.

I changed my Gmail password to 123456 once to test the recovery process. Then tried to change it back, and it told me I couldn't reuse old passwords.

Doesn't Android use the PIN as an encryption key?

I never knew you could do that in the first place.
@Maciejasjmj said in I can't unlock my phone. I am TR :

No. Only if you choose to encrypt the storage or the whole phone.
-
@heterodox looks like my Nexus came encrypted out of the box.
-

And your recovery option is an SMS to your phone
Take your SIM out and put it into another phone.
-

That's pretty weird. Mine didn't because out of the box it doesn't have a PIN, just swipe. And I'd think that'd be pretty common even with the newer stuff so the first reaction Nexus users have isn't "This is a pain in the ass to use; it mandates a PIN!" But who knows.
I remember when I had my storage encrypted and then did a factory reset, not realizing that the encryption information is stored on /data and not /data/media (the storage that's not affected by a factory reset). RIP my storage. :<

I have my old LG G2. Hopefully...when I get home.
This is really putting a crimp in my Pokemon playing.

@Karla
I wanna be, the very best, like no one ever was... Pokemon... gotta unlock the phone... Pokemon!

The exact same thing happened to my mom a few weeks ago. She had bought a tablet and I was helping her with setting it up. As she has forgotten the password to her Google account I advised her to reset it, which she did.
A while later she wanted to look at her phone, only to discover the damn thing wasn't letting her in anymore. Android simply refused her password, no matter what we tried. ADM was of no help either.
We ended up wiping the phone...
This was on a Motorola G 4G (2014)

Apparently this is how you get to the recovering screen:
Step 2:
While holding the Volume Down key, press and hold the Power key.
Release both keys when the Recovery mode screen appears.Step 3:
On the Android system recovery screen, press the Volume Down key to scroll to and highlight wipe data/factory reset.I contacted Sprint and they provided the steps.
Did it through chat and wasn't too painful.

Yeah, my mom's phone slipped in the dash holder thing she bought and panicked when the phone blinked and showed her "that screen that erased everything".
-
@Karla Except it didn't work. Fuck.
-
What the flying fuck? Sprint agent just said if factory reset doesn't work, LG will replace the phone.
-
You could try initiating a wipe through Android Device Manager tho.

I've already had to send this phone back when it was less than 6 months old for another known issue with it.

Sounds like you need a change in modal. We have a selection of phones that are really hot right now you could try.

Nota Bene: the Note 7 is a weeeeeeee bit too hot right now.

- Turn off your LG G4 (complete a full shut down process – press power key and select “power off” or press and hold power button for a few moments).
- Then, press and hold Power and Volume Down buttons – don’t release the keys.
- Keep pressing the buttons until the LG Logo is being displayed.
- At that point release the buttons for about 1 second.
- After that immediately press and hold Power and Volume Down keys pressed once more.
- The recovery mode menu should be then displayed on your LG G4.
- You can use Volume Up and Down buttons in order to scroll up and down and you can press Power key to select.
Should work

One of the problems with this phone is overheating. Especially troublesome while playing Pokemon. I have a portable fan to cool it when I am out.

That process never gets to the Recovery menu. Tried several times.
The instructions from Sprint did. I did a hard factory reset from the recovery menu, twice.
I am still stuck in the same google account verification.
It is an anti theft feature.

@Karla said in I can't unlock my phone. I am TR :

Am I the only one who feels the controls on that recovery screen are rather counter-intuitive? My one exposure to it was helping a friend whose Android tablet had some issues which I figured would probably be solved by booting in safe mode (which it did). Since one of the volume buttons moves the selection down, I naturally assumed the other volume button moves it up, but as I recall, that selects it instead. This caused me to misclick more than once before I worked out what was happening.
-
@Gurth I guess they don't load a touch driver at that point, and they definitely needed that select too?

Yeah. The button Mappings can be janky. IIRC it's because the default uses buttons 1-3, but the OEM has to specify those buttons if they're not the expected power, volume-up, volume-down sorting.
It's even more fun when you boot a kernel that was compiled for a very slightly different model (say international versus US) and the volume keys happen to be backward because of this.

Don’t Android devices typically have several buttons below the screen that could be used for the “click” function? Or aren’t those part of the requirements, so the OS can’t expect them to be present?
