I managed my last shower solo
Ah yes, another shower singer or air guitar player.
I don't really do air guitar, but I sing some songs with some success.
You should see me in the car when ELO's version of "Roll Over Beethhoven" comes on. I'm the world's foremost air cellist.
I was looking for this image to replace someone walking out their door, looking at their lawn, and going back inside. Thanks!.

In the Avatar universe, after Aang reemerged as the last surviving airbender, and after he grew up to have children, the Air Nomad's birth rate exploded (from zero). This means he was a boomer. A Boomer Aang.
-
@Zecc I feel like that should maybe be in a different thread somehow?
-
@Arantor Which one would depend on whether is a Dad...
-
@Zecc no. He was The Greatest Aang. His children were Boomer Aangs ( patronymics)

Unbeknownst to the world, Bigus Dickus had a rather unfortunate brother:
Smallus Dickullus

@BernieTheBernie a little-remembered member indeed.

The difference in pronunciation between man and men is the one letter that is changed.
The difference in pronunciation between woman and women is one of the letters that is the same; the letter that changes is pronounced the same in both words.

@hungrier ... I don't get it.

@boomzilla so, does the orangutan start with the sword, or do I, or does it start with the sword in the middle of the floor?
Anyway, a 365 exponent is a lot so I will choose the orangutan.

Is the Foundation series in fact Asimov's veiled and perhaps unconscious hagiography of the Jewish diaspora relative to the fall of the Roman Empire?
-
This one's easy. You push the right button. Then you get in your car, defeat the chicken, and bring it to KFC. I don't think it will try fighting you again afterwards.

A quick Excel calculation on the titles of over one thousand Warner Brothers cartoons casts some doubt on the species of its top star in regards to his name. 75 cartoons have the word "hare" in the title, 30 have "bunny", 29 have "rabbit" and 15 have "bugs".

Why is it always just regions that vote to secede off a state, but never the rest of the state voting for a region to GTFO?
For example, I think Bavaria should secede already. Or maybe get annexed by Austria for a little bit of humility.
-
@topspin Isn't that where 1/4 of your economy is, though? With the other 1/4 being NRW, and the remainder divided among the poor?
-
@Applied-Mediocrity doesn’t matter, they need to go.
-
@topspin I had that thought in 2014 when Scotland wanted independence from the rest of the UK and again in 2016 with Brexit.
I suspect the outcome of the former might have been different if England had voted, and probably not all that different if the rest of the EU voted on keeping the UK in. But that’s an ass-pull guess and debate should be left to deeper thinkers with more time and space than this thread.

But they're so jolly. And, iiuc, creme-filled.
-
@Gribnit you’re thinking of Berlin.
-
@topspin Now I'm thinking of a Berliner.

Quebec is sort of a borderline case.

But aren't you currently living some where in Bavaria?
I am an expat, a Bavarian living in Hesse. Hope I won't need to show my passport when crossing the border near Aschaffenburg...
Or worse: apply for a "green card" to stay in Hesse.
-
@BernieTheBernie Nope, further west.
-
@topspin Ha noi...
(for the non-schwabians here: it's not the capital of Vietnam)
-
@BernieTheBernie west of the Rhine.
-
Life is peaceful there

@BernieTheBernie said in Random thought of the day:
I am an expat
I've heard the difference between an expat and an immigrant being described as "an expat is upper class and probably white".
-
@Zecc shouldn't expat correspond to an emigrant, though?
-
@topspin in the country of origin, sure, but both terms apply in reference to the country of destination, and technically an ex-pat is an immigrant to their new home, e.g. Brits retiring to live in Spain.
-
@Arantor of course emigrating from one place always means immigrating to another. I was just talking about which word it corresponds to.
I.e., I think the correct phrasing should be "I'm an expat (from Bavaria)", not "I'm an expat (to Hesse)".
-
@topspin the phrasing as given made perfect sense to me, but I come from a country that is generally anti-immigrant while pro-expat for retirement purposes, so I’ve heard plenty of “expat living in Spain” type stuff over the years.
-
@topspin Somewhat related to this, I realized a few years ago that Jesus was born to parents living in Nazareth, in Galilee, but the birth occurred in the province of Judea, at Bethlehem, establishing the child's citizenship there instead. (The gospel of Mark claims this was because they had travelled there at the time to satisfy a census requirement.)
This means Jesus was what would now be termed an anchor baby.

No, that was Luke. Matthew had them live in Bethlehem initially, flee to Egypt to avoid Herodus' order to kill all newborns, and move to Nazareth on their return. Mark doesn't describe the birth at all.

Sorry, Luke not Mark. I had the wrong member of the family from "The Rifleman" in my mind.

The human body, often put forward as an example of bilateral symmetry, is only symmetrical at all on the outside. Inside, things are crammed in every which way.
(Even external symmetry is a simplification, what with skin blemishes, hair whorls, etc.)
-
Makes sense. UI designers only work on visible parts, they don't care if the inside is a complete mess.

What's wrong with Bavaria? They have good beer and a good Motoren Werke AG. What more do you need?
