@da-Doctah If fools, for whom Fool's gold was named so, had known that, they wouldn't have been considered fools, thus it would be gold proper, hence the name

It makes for a weird reading experience of a news article if the main rebel group involved is called the MILF.
Even moreso if you're reading the doctored screenshot that includes the FAP offensive (the real headline is about the AFP)

@hungrier And of course news about the Karen National Liberation Army also tends to trigger the wrong associations with internet dwellers.

"YouTuber": Someone who uploads video shot with a potato.
Random thought #2:
How did the verb "shoot" come to be used for the creation of photographic/video images?

(I have no idea if that's actually related, but I had to post it.)

Marcel Duchamp's painting Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2 is a famous example (rejected by Cubists because it was too Futurist]].
None of that sentence makes any sense. None of it. The picture isn’t even a nude.

That gun is not dressed
Sorry, more illiterate than usual. "Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2" is the painting in question.
On a tangential note, the mouthwash that was prescribed to me has sodium hypochlorite listed as an ingredient. I guess I can cross "managing not to ingest bleach" off the list of things I hoped to achieve in my lifetime.

That's ... quite an accomplishment, of sorts, I guess.

You ever accidentally take a gulp of swimming pool water? You already crossed it off. (At least the way pools are usually disinfected in the US. I guess in some places they use ozone or UV light. I don't know how they do it on your side of the pond.)

Every day should have small victories. But yeah, completely forgot about swimming pools. Can probably cross "Not ingesting urine" off that list too.

ingesting urine
There's a thread that might include that sort of thing. I don't know whether it actually does, or not, and I don't want to know, but either way, it's . Also, the parenting thread may contain stories of getting squirted in the face while changing diapers.

If mindlessly scrolling through social media posts is called doomscrolling then is mindlessly scrolling through this forum because I don't have anything to do called "scrolling"?

On my list it is "failed to avoid directly ingesting urine undiluted".
I will not divulge the crossed-out/checked status of that item.

It needs to be while you have something to do but don't feel like doing it.

so ... how much dilution is fine? asking for science

YouTube should shadow-ban any video that contains REACT in the title.

Random thought #2:

Probably because of the similarity between taking a picture and shooting a gun:
Point gun at target, pull trigger
Point camera at target, press buttonRandom Thought #2a:
Why do we say that someone is "filming" something when they create video that is stored digitally and does not use any film?
-
@Gern_Blaanston said in Random thought of the day:

Because oftentimes people use words describing the action instead of inventing non-colliding descriptors? And that sometimes the evolution of the thing no longer represents the original action?

But when I shoot video with my phone or video camera I am not "filming". There is no film. The "action" that I am performing is creating a digital video.
I think the real answer is that it should be called "videoing" but that is awkward to pronounce and doesn't sound right, so we just fall back to the familiar "filming" even though it is not technically correct.

And what is "shoot"? No object is being projected in a particular direction...

Nouns get verbed.
Verbs get nouned.
None of it makes sense, and yet we understand it.
Language is weird.
