EVE Online considering using disc horse

I thought I'd got away from it when tdwtf switched.

Oh man, and I thought I had issues with getting PHPBB working for my EVE alliance. The sperglords of space will have a field day with that if they do switch.
-
Uh huh...
Great onebox!

Wait, are we commenting on them commenting on our commenting on their switch?

Not really. But go ahead!
-
To be fair, I don't think EVE's forums have ever oneboxed well no matter where I see the link (Discord, Slack, here, etc.). They always bork funny.
The "Page Not Found" bit might be related to being logged in.

Oh, the theme fooled me. I thought you had posted a screenshot of their forum where they tried to OneBox our site and it worked badly.

Yes, well, there's this forum software, which is awful, and then there's which is .

They haven't switched yet, but I'm sure such delights are in store for when they do.
-
Dear god I haven't logged in to Eve in forever, and I need to reset my password and log in and reply.
Can you use the forums with an unsubbed account?
-
@JazzyJosh I believe you can, as long as you have an account. I don't think an active sub is needed to use the forums, just to log into a character in-game.
Though I don't have any unsubbed accounts, so I can't test for sure.
-
I'm sure @tarunik has a few words on the matter....
-
Oh man, can't wait for a massive fight to break out and all the trolls come out to play on the forums while waiting for jump bridges and time dilation to sort themselves out... I don't think even CCP's experience with clustering is going to keep alive...

Clustering experience vs. the true cluster…

Maybe he would if he hadn't disappeared almost a year ago.

I really want them to switch, just to see how relatively normal people react to Discourse. Maybe it's just people like us who see so many issues with it...
-
@bb36e said in EVE Online considering using disc horse:

I don't know what game you think you're talking about, but we're talking about EVE. Those words do not in any way describe the players of EVE.
"Rabid bunch of rampaging asshats" might be a fairly apt description.
No, I'm not just bitter that my alliance just had one of its 3 major corps up and leave last night with no warning and emptying whatever wallets they could get their hands on.

Yeah, hearing it from a friend, the politics in that game are almost as scary as RL...
-
@Tsaukpaetra Worse, in some ways.

Not really. People can be really unpleasant in real life.

Sometimes I wish EVE Online was as fun as it sounds on paper.
-
@error Sometimes it is, but unfortunately I've found that a lot of that fun only comes after either a lot of drudgery waiting for skills to train (so you can fly some of the fun ships, like interceptors or interdictors or whatever) or spending a good chunk of change now that they have skill injectors (to rapid-train said skills).
It's one reason that I'm tempted to just let my accounts lapse at this point. I haven't even logged into the game in over a month, I just keep it running so that my skillqueues keep training and so that I don't lose access to the systems I keep running for the alliance.

I know it's been a few years, but back when I played it it was nothing but shooting lasers at asteroids for roughly 58 hours.
-
@blakeyrat It's way more fun than that now! Instead of just AFKing while mining asteroids, you can also also AFK while making 30 jump trips through hisec, AFK while gate camping in lowsec, AFK while blobbing in faction warfare, AFK while scanning for neutrals, AFK while ratting with drones, AFK while stalking a system in a cloki, AFK while waiting for it to be safe to undock, and AFK while training skills. You can even AFK all of them at once!

Sounds like a great game to play while I'm busy AFK-ing at my Minecraft farms!

@pydsigner said in EVE Online considering using disc horse:
AFK while blobbing in faction warfare,
Blobbing actually sounds kind of fun, until you explain what it is then I'm sure it'll become boring real quick.

Are you sure you're not one of my corp's directors? The only leadership is AFK leadership.

I'd check but that'd involve not being AFK.

@pydsigner Yeah, Mutant Blobs Attack! sounds a hundred times more fun than trying to play a game so laggy you can't even fire your weapons.
-
@blakeyrat Thankfully I've never been involved in a fight big enough to be subjected to extreme time dilation in the game, but I can't imagine having to sit there for hours waiting for your guns to fire.
-
@e4tmyl33t said in EVE Online considering using disc horse:

Large mass dilates time.
It's a feature.
-
This could be you.
Except it will never be you because everyone has an exponential lead on you.
-
@xaade Not so much anymore, since now you can buy skill injectors to just get immediate skillpoints. You just have to be willing to throw money at it.
-
This post is deleted!

Hey, it's not like it matters if you're AFKing.

Who are you calling fat?
-
@Luhmann You're calling that jump freighter small? Some people just won't settle for a capital.

Wouldn't it be easier, not to mention cheaper, to just play ProgressQuest?
-

Are you sure that's not just because your video card was in the wrong slot?

It's not space themed.
Edit: Curse you , @bb36e
-
@pydsigner said in EVE Online considering using disc horse:
It's not space themed.
So?
Slightly more seriously, it probably wouldn't be much effort to come up with new space-themed text. From reading this thread, it probably doesn't even have to be coherent.
-
@FrostCat to be honest, the idea of playing EVE seems more interesting to me than actually playing. so if someone slapped together a PQ UI that rendered spaceships duking it out I'd buy it.

See that's the thing. ProgressQuest is ugly Tk. EVE Online spaceships are [sometimes] beautiful. Sometimes hehe.

Did anyone say rabid bunch of rampaging asshats?

So? You're AFK, remember?

@FrostCat The slot my video card was in and the slot I moved it to have identical capabilities and specs. As evidenced by literally every game on my computer except one.
Don't blame me for Guild Wars 2's shitty bug.
