So, caught a Lapras today, unfortunately it was CP 360, so nothing amazing.
Also, my brother sent me this link (which I screenshot to preserve), which kinda confirms that we have at least one cheater going around in the area I live.
I'm sure there's probably listings like that in every even slightly large city, and I'm sure people take them up on it everywhere too.
-
@ChaosTheEternal I've never seen a Lapras, I did hatch one so it does have decent CP.
I've hatched a couple Snorlaxes and caught one (that was at the hotspot in Central Park and someone had a tracker--I followed the swarm).
Yeah, I've seen those accounts for sale. To me that kinda defeats the fun of the game. It is fun when you find a rare.
Even the general grinding with birds, rats, and bats does make me get out more. There is still a chance of finding a rare.
I think the psychology is like gambling and since I am not losing anything if no rare does spawn it isn't as risky as gambling.
I've actually caught a few Aerodactyls in my neighborhood. The gym I live over is a common spawn point and a pokestop half way down the block.
I got my Dragonite from the apartment and I saw the Charizard down block from my apartment, I did have to go outside because GPS was jumping around while inside that apt.
I wish Dratini weren't so rare...so I can evolve a Dragonite with better IVs.

@Tsaukpaetra My sympathies.
I'm going on an evolution / transfer spree as soon as it starts. Then do an awful lot of walking in the next week. I will walk for Dratini and Lapras candy and maybe Snorlax, my best IV Snorlax is 82% so not sure.
I still have no Chancey.

So hooray for an update that introduces a game hanging bug.
That's what I see when I try to catch a Weedle and it jumps into the Pokéball. And that's all I see until I crash the game.

Yeah, I got that too a couple times.
-
@ChaosTheEternal
The best part about this thread - it confirms my decision to abandon the game
-
@Karla Not sure if the most recent update fixes that, but I had a Meowth jump before the ball hit and the game didn't hang.
Also, I'm already tired of catching Ghastly.

I've found a different one: The game stopped responding when I tried to power up my Aerodactyl.

Yeah, I'm already tired of it too.
It does seem that nests are unaffected, I could still catch Slowpoke in Central Park and Charmander in the park by work.
I was thrilled to see two Eevees on my way home yesterday.

@Yamikuronue what? Phrases of encouragement!

So, now that Niantic have locked hitting Pokéstops while "going too fast" after already locking out Pokémon spawning, just as the temperatures are dropping for the majority of their player base, while also apparently still not caring about cheaters (and possibly people with profanity in their names, otherwise they would've had a filter including leetspeak versions that caught the person I reported this weekend), I think I'm done.
I can only hit, at most, 7 Pokéstops a day now, but as it gets colder, I'll start avoiding the longer route on my walk to work so I'll only hit 1, and I'm already not walking home from work.
The "you're going too fast" prompt should just replace the "I'm a passenger" button with a instead. That's effectively what they're doing and have been for honest players it seems like.

They just (in the last few hours) changed the amount of items from pokestops. You will get at least 6.

New spawn points too.
-
@Karla Yeah, but the conjecture is that is leading into Gen 2 coming out, which will effectively make everything harder unless they completely rework candies and CPs.
Either way, I got what enjoyment I could, and I'm getting out after an update that kills my ability to play, as well as my brother's.

Understood.
I still get enjoyment out of it and I still get out and walk more than I have in the past. It probably helps that I live in a densely populated city.
I catch fewer stops when I ride the bus since that change but since I still get enough it doesn't hinder me too much
-
@Karla Yeah, for me, "fewer" is going from ~15 to 2, maybe 3, per day.
-
@ChaosTheEternal Yeah, I see how that wouldn't be enough.
-
Edit: that onebox tho
Edit edit: FFS
Desktop edit: There we go.

I found a Snorlax!!!

Yeah, I know it stays during evolution. One spawned last night where we could reach from the apartment and told all the kids and my husband.
My oldest wanted to make sure Raichu keeps the hat.
-
@Karla I also finally made an account for my daughter and Santa Pikachu was her first Pikachu (though I caught that one for her since I take her account with me when I go to work).

I have 9 at this point. Nevermind the ones that ran.
#idonthaveaproblem #canstopatanytime
My kids and my husband call me a hoarder, I've maxed out my bag size and have increased my Pokemon storage significantly, and I have an insane amount of stardust.

@Karla
You know, typically, it's men that are all about comparing their bag size.

Did you catch it in the wild or hatch it?
I love the Dratini's animation and it is so much cooler looking than Dragonite.
My daughter still needs one and if it wasn't so cold the other day I might have gotten off the bus to get it for her.

I finally made an account for my daughter over Thanksgiving weekend.
She has hatched both a Chansey and Togepi and I have not.
I am not bitter.
-
@Karla
Just trade her for dex credit and.... oh, waaaait
-
I just ran down the block to catch this guy for my daughter:
http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/9/93/148Dragonair.png/250px-148Dragonair.png
I caught it in the house from GPS drift** on my phone but my tablet doesn't get as much (usually).
**In the last 24 hours I probably got around 12km of drift.
-
@Karla said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

That's pretty shitty for GPS to drift like that: normal drift is more like 100m or so.

FWP. When your TABLET is more accurate than your phone... :P
-
@Tsaukpaetra What I don't get is why the phone would be that inaccurate in the first place. Most phones nowadays set their time according to the base station they're connected to, and the GPS satellites' clocks are insanely accurate, so the phone should be within 100m easily.
The only thing I can think of is the phone's clock is out of whack somehow, and that's throwing off the calculations.

It might be switching the GPS off so it doesn't drain battery, and using cell network to determine location. Do that a few times, and you're travelling miles :)

I used to do that purposefully when I wanted drift but since the last update Pokemon Go on both tablet and phone gets the error "GPS not found".
The drift isn't usually too bad on either if I am outside.
