Hmm, @royal_poet is still missing. But at least we have that guy between @FrostCat and @Fox now.
-
@ben_lubar That stupid jerk?

That stupid jerk?
Who plays a game with such crappy hardware he only gets 15fps?
-
@FrostCat my hardware is king master of the universe, that game software is fucking busted somehow.
-
@blakeyrat I wonder if for some reason not having the game fully downloaded caused that. Only one way to find out!
Leave the launcher open overnight so it can use up 25GB of hard drive space.
-
@ben_lubar I was totally going to do that last night but forgot. I ended up playing MechWarrior Online, which runs at a silky smooth 60 FPS at all times.
Now I need my bandwidth for working.
-
@blakeyrat What's the processing power of a single core of your CPU?
-
@Fox 800 mega-cubits. I don't fucking know.
It's an i7, if that helps. Model 5820k apparently.
-
@blakeyrat Okay, that may be the issue. According to a person in LA Map chat, the game is not very well optimized for multithreading, so a lot of the biggest hits to performance are all processed on a single core. They're apparently working on fixing it but it's going slow.
-
@Fox Oh bullshit.
Unless they recently de-optimized the shit out of it, it used to run fine like 7 years ago on a computer about a third the speed of this one. And even though CPUs expand with more cores instead of more hertz now, I find it hard to believe that a single core of this i7 isn't faster than a single core of that... whatever the fuck I had 7 years ago.

I have an older i7 than you, and an older GTX than you, so I'm going to stick with my hypothesis that is has something to do with the partial download.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Like I said last night, I get 55-60FPS on a 650 ti boost + i5 3570K. Heck, I get better than 15FPS with a Radeon R7 250.
And that's not all "Blakey is stupid whaargarbl", I'm just saying I don't know where the problem is, but I don't think it's necessarily the client itself.
If you happened to be near something like a world boss when there was a fight going on, that could've killed your FPS, but I doubt that was happening. I suppose you could get GPU-Z and let it run to see what the GPU utilization was like but I don't know if that would tell us anything useful.
-
@FrostCat You guys don't need to confirm that the performance I'm seeing is not normal, because I already knew that.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

Let me just make a note of that.
-
This game has the most expensive MMO DLCs in history. $50???
I found a site where I could get it for $39, but still. $39! For a MMO DLC!
Ben L has promised me there's a hang glider, I better damned get my hang glider after spending that much.
-
@blakeyrat you have to level up 1 time after you complete the first story mission of the expansion pack to get it. Jump while falling to open it once you have it. You get it on all your characters once you have it, even the ones that aren't level 80.
-
@ben_lubar If I use my magical level booster do I need to do all the normal story missions too? Or can I just skip to expansion ones?
-
@blakeyrat you can skip the story missions if you open your [h]ero panel and select "Prologue: Rally to Maguuma"
-

What, Heart of Thorns? No, that's $25. Unless you mean the "ultimate" version, which gives you a bunch of extra stuff, including $50 worth of premium currency.
-
@FrostCat I don't know where you live, but Heart of Thorns was $50 for the standard version here.
-
@ben_lubar Really? I didn't know that. If you don't already have the base game, it + HoT is $50. That's how I got it, so the base game is effectively free if you buy it that way.
-
@FrostCat the base game can't be purchased anymore. HoT is $50.
-
@ben_lubar Interesting. Well, WoW expansions are almost the same--they start out at $40, typically getting discounted only when the next one is released, at which point the previous one usually gets folded into the base game.
Since there's no monthly fee beyond the cost of the expansion I personally don't feel the cost was too high.
-
@FrostCat The base game is f2p now, as will be every expansion going forward except whatever the most recent one is. But to not get the f2p limitations you have to have paid for one of them at some point.
-
@Fox said in Gilled Horse Chew:

to be clear, this is the most recent expansion then, not the most recent expansion now.
-
@blakeyrat
Ultimately, Guild Wars 2 does a really poor job of offloading to the GPU, especially in towns. So it's really sensitive to CPU contention, and I know they've had problems with not multithreading well in the past.Good luck on the play through :)
-
@FrostCat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

US dollars or some mutant Euro-dollars?
-
-

Huh?
There is no "base game". You have to pay the same for Heart of Thorns whether or not you already owned it. Which is a rip.
-
@FrostCat here's the cutscene I first saw Lord Faren in:
-
Wishlist:
- NA and EU players can guest to the other region's servers
- Player character dialogue volume separate from NPC dialogue volume
- Fix @blakeyrat's FPS problem
We could totally get a guild hall for Sausagefest if we had all the players able to join the same instance.
-
Wow, that lighting looks terrible.
And for anyone who still thinks that's intentional after seeing that first screenshot, here's a second screenshot:
I reported it through
/bug
, but who knows when they'll get to the low priority visual glitches like an entire area being eye-gougingly bright.
-
@ben_lubar that bug has been wandering around the map. The first time I saw it was at the Font of Rhand.
-
@Fox the first time I saw it was in that basement in northeast Lion's Arch.
-
@ben_lubar both suspicious as fuck places. Coincidence? Probably.
-
Uh, I didn't think Guild Halls were server specific? Assuming you're not on Yak's Bend, we could science that by having you join my guild for a little bit.
-
@izzion if they're not region-locked, that's strange because every other map is.
-
@ben_lubar I don't know for sure about EU/US region. I know the various servers within a region are all in the same instances for quite a while (since the "megaserver" update), but I don't pay enough attention to know for sure about cross-pond instances.
-
@izzion yeah, the megaservers work for guild halls (in fact, if more than 5 people join a guild hall instance, it shoves everyone into a bigger instance automatically), but megaservers don't let you cross the ocean.
-
So it turns out that when a guild has a mission active and a player from that guild with mission management permissions finishes that mission, it counts no matter which guild was actually doing the mission. So that's how a guild with 3 online EU players and 2 online NA players finished two puzzle missions that each require 6 players to complete. Which means we now have 900 favor points instead of 0.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM SARAH MCKENZY
I'm so glad you've decided to settle the Lost Precipice!
First, you need to make your way to Verdant Brink. I hope you know where that is!
In the northwestern corner of the Brink, find the unstable shrine embedded in a chasm wall. You can't miss it.
Well, you could. I mean, you need to glide to get there, so make sure you secure the Brink from Mordrem attack first.
The shrine door falls down sometimes, so you might need extra hands to haul it open. Easy!
@Arantor @royal_poet @Joel when should we capture the guild hall? It doesn't have to be soon.
-
@izzion I just tested the guild initiative office with @FrostCat and it's pretty clear that NA and EU players can't join the same instance, even for guild stuff.
-
-
@izzion said in Gilled Horse Chew:
Le sads.
You EU plebs need to server transfer to NA :P
Why doesn't the "Guest" button work for that? Surely if they can transfer me they can transfer enough of my data so that I can be in the same instance as a friend. I'm playing on EU through MilwaukeePC and having zero problems with latency, so there shouldn't be any issue having EU players temporarily play on NA servers or vice versa.
-
I think it's something to do with how their authentication is set up; I think the authentication is per region and exclusive to each region, so you can't inter-region guest. But if you want to server transfer, they can temporarily lock your account on EU, copy the data to NA, and Bob's your uncle.
-
@ben_lubar Your images are broken somehow. I see a do not enter road sign?

I see nothing at all in Chrome; IE shows a broken image link, that, when clicked on, takes me to a Google 404 page.
-
@blakeyrat @FrostCat it wasn't all that interesting anyway. Just some overly bright sharp-edged lighting in a cave with no light sources.
