@Steve_The_Cynic it's not normal to develop new process control systems, and there's a whole lot of 'moved sindrome' if you change an existing GUI, so it's likelly the last system you saw is still being used and has the same interface.
Plus, it works well and conveys the information needed. Sure, you could clean up the gradients and make everything fake 3D, but what do you really gain from that?

Someone had some real trouble turning the computer off...
I love that they had so much trouble, they put the root username and password in the welcome message.
But hey-- the password has special characters, so it's secure.

@Lorne-Kates Oh boy, you got me, I'm actually a brazilian who's just really into US politics. *eyeroll*
Good rebuttal. I'm like you 100% sure @Lorne-Kates was totally serious and it wasn't just a lame joke on his side. Cause he'd never do that and he's totally that dumb!
-
@kt_ And I'm sure that I was totally serious as well, and not merely mocking his poor attempt at humor.
-
@anonymous234 As te software on the print is displaying in portuguese, I assume it's a brazilian computer and the user can't even speak english to read the message.

That I am sure of, too. I think we're meant for reach other.
Filed under: I have no fucking idea where this is going

I'm just sitting here wondering why this thread isn't called "world of VNCraft"

Oh, senpai, I've always felt the same! Come away with me, and we may reach all over one other in our passion.
Filed Under: You brought this doom upon yourself.

Here's a nice one of a wind turbine monitor in English/Russian:

@BaconBits I have a sneaking suspicion that the information in that screenshot may be useful for nefarious deeds.

Probably, but this POS at a bar seems more fun:

@blakeyrat Who the hell still pirates stuff OVER FTP? Man, I'm surprised he updated anything since 1998.
Anyway, I am now tempted to set up a machine, expose VNC and have it loop a video of someone waving over-enthusiasticly.
you all amuse me greatly :D
-
@Vaire I aim to entertain

@Polygeekery said in World of VNC:
What the fuck?
Is it reskinned Windows, or some cheap Chinglish knockoff? The clock looks a lot like IceWM, which has a few XP themes.

You're right. It was a shitty joke. It can't be helped. You make everything dull and suck the humor out of it.

Here's some food for thought: if a random guy can automatically hack thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of internet devices, what can the big government organizations do?
AIs have advanced a lot, some research projects can learn how to play many video games on their own. So imagine what hundreds of millions of dollars spent on a "full internet auto-hacker" could do.
And if the US government has one of those, they must know that other governments probably have them too. Meaning if there was a conflict, there's a good chance China or Russia could disable half the US devices with literally a single keypress.
Yet they don't seem too worried. I've never seen any awareness campaigns for people to patch their internet-connected devices or anything like that. Are they confident their own cybersecurity program would detect the attack and disable it before it can do any harm? Or have they just assumed that a conflict with another superpower is impossible since it would end in nuclear apocalypse for everyone?
-

He didn't hack anything.

If I personally encountered one, I'd bring my clue-bat. Does that count?
-
scanned the Internetz for VNC servers with no authentication, took a screenshot of every one
It still counts as hacking even if they have no authentication.
Especially legally. If any of the people that own those computers hired a good lawyer and sued him, he would be in trouble.
(Not that I'm defending this, I think exposing insecure systems should be strongly encouraged)
-
@anonymous234 said in World of VNC:

No.
Although it does bring up an interesting question: computer laws are basically written around "unauthorized entry" or "unauthorized control", but if the computer was set to implicitly approve the entry, does that count? I could see arguments either way.

If your house door is unlocked, and I get inside it, it's still trespassing.

Nice artifacts:
My the PC in my car broke its graphics card, and now the actual screen looks like that, though I'm not sure if a VNC capture would produce the same...

Weird, I thought I shutdown that VM....

Anyone notice that Danfoss doesn’t just have one unsecured VNC server, but several?
https://worldofvnc.net/browse.php?id=2623
https://worldofvnc.net/browse.php?id=3301
https://worldofvnc.net/browse.php?id=3465All in Finland, and I’m sure I saw another in Denmark when I looked at random ones this morning.
Oh, and here’s someone deciding to let his coworkers know how he feels about them:

Industrial devices, yes. Bringing US manufacturing to its knees etc etc.
The military, on the other hand, would be unaffected.

According to US law, yes.
According to German law, no.

That is the lock screen of a PC bang( internet game cafe) PC.
That's why it has an advert for... Need for Speed? In a Korean PC bang, you need to get a plastic card with a number and you punch the number in to lock screen to use the computer.
-
@Ascendant Why is it so cramped!
-
@blakeyrat More seats, more money. Simple.
-
@Ascendant Can you take the PC and use it in the toilet stall where there's more space???
-
@blakeyrat No but maybe in China or India? I'm not sure.
-
@Ascendant It is your DIVINE DUTY to go to an internet cafe and start carrying computer components into the bathroom stall until someone stops you.

Even your FIRE EVACUATION POSTERS show video games.
God, I'd forgotten that about them. Yes, they do put game ads all over the place (or did when I visited, which was like 10 years ago) a bit like how you get ads for TV and music all over the place in the West. But putting them on a safety poster? That's… special. Heck, having a part of your evacuation planning critically dependent on keeping power is also special.
Korea. Because somewhere has to show that Japan isn't the weirdest place on Earth.
I think it's usual for every poster printouts in a network bar (for playing online games) to contains a game Ad. or two, even if the Ad. itself is irrelevent.

I think I've seen similar setup at Kiosk in university campus. When the clock in lower right corner reaches 00:00:00, it'll automatically logout and login back again.
But a 2 hours access time countdown? Well... that's generous.

@Jarry Environmental control system for a chicken barn.
I don't get what the fire icon in the barn is, though. Maybe it indicates a heater, which is currently turned off? (Greyed-out?)

Larm!!

@Jarry Nice that they threw litres into that otherwise mediaeval diagram.
