Discussion of NodeBB Updates

What the crap is up with the "there are new posts clicky here lol" thing floating at the top of unread?
-
@Lorne-Kates tdwtf had it's own customization for it, I think it is conflicting with ours now.
We changed it on latest version to not push down the list. It should look like this
I think just need to disable the customization on this forum.
-
@barisu Are you saying we're Doing It Wrong? :fry_stare:
Anyway, @ben_lubar might want to know.
-
@JBert More like, you guys were doing it right and now we are doing it right too so two rights make a wrong

Is there an option for 'never show this', or should I just add (another) adblock rule?
-
@Lorne-Kates What's your issue with that?

#new-topics-alert { display: none; }

If I'm on /unread, I'm looking for a new topic to read anyways. When I come back, /unread automagically updates itself.
If I'm on /unread and I'm not actively looking for a new topic (just have the tab open), I don't need UI popping up to try to get my attention.

When I come back
It's for people who open stuff in new tabs.
On modern browsers that support tabs, that is....

And on modern forum software that supports it too, and doesn't for instance try to heisenberg composers.

@Tsaukpaetra Can't be; none of them say Tsaukpaetra on them.
-
@pie_flavor Ben had to randomize them because we're all @boomzilla alts anyway.

@pie_flavor said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:
Yes, we totally needed the red boob back when there's already a minimize button up top.
Plus, on mobile it obscures part of the editor textbox, making it impossible to select, or even see, the end of the last line or two of text — the place I'm very likely to be currently typing.

I just got this myself. HATE!
-
@Benjamin-Hall Personally, I'd be in favor of just rolling back this last update. In just about every user-visible way, it's far worse than any version we've had in the last few months, at least.
-
Just FYI, the red boob should not be showing up over top of the composer. It doesn't do that on a fresh install or on community.nodebb.org. I'm not sure exactly why it's happening here but it's probably the result of a version mismatch.

The history behind this particular feature is, in a nutshell:
- Old forum software would simply not update the page at all (since there's no real-time componetry, it wouldn't even know it was stale)
- Early NodeBB would push topics with new posts to the top of the list, right away
- I think it was actually here, that we received rightful complaints that it's frickin' annoying when that happens right when you're about to click into a topic, and end up clicking a different topic
- Instead of a live update we place a notice at the top stating that it's stale and a new set of topics can be loaded
- Except now it also pushed the page down a little... but tdwtf customisations fixed that.
-
@HardwareGeek This is the same z-index bug I brought up here which is caused by the TDWTF customization for the composer.
I do know the CSS is messed up for the composer. It's given a z-index of 1050 in "desktop" and 1070 in "mobile" then overriden with a [TDWTF] rule with z-index of 1000 !important, while the header has a z-index of 1030.
The red boob has a z-index of 1060. Until @ben_lubar or @boomzilla or whoever else can removes the CSS listed below, the only other option is to add the custom CSS in the post I linked to.
The "bad" CSS:
html:not([data-disable-tdwtf-css]) .composer { z-index: 1000!important; }

Boy do I love trying to tap the "scroll to bottom" button and having it interpret it as this new scrolling bar system, and scrolling to the physical location on the bar that the scroll to bottom button is at. I'm having flashbacks to tapping the screen and the sidebar folding out.
-
where the fuck did the title bar go

-
I find it dumb that threads have an option to sort by forwards chronological but the Unread list doesn't.
-
@pie_flavor that's a good idea, we should add that.
-
Will the next update bring back clickable image embeds? I'm tired of having to right click -> open in new tab in order to see full size images.

Looks like next + 1:
-
Listed as second from bottom for 1.11.1.
Hopefully the fix for /unread Infiniscroll is in 1.11.1 too.
-
@loopback0 I'll take your word for it.
@ben_lubar, what's the plan for the next upgrade?
Man, that guy has really not been around much lately.

Does ITT still stand for "in this topic" or is it another thing like "y" being changed from meaning "why" to meaning "yes" out from under me?
