Yay!

What happened to the popcorn button?
Anyway, some of the new updated emojicons are pretty good but I think the new isn't as good as the old one.

Of course, moving goalpost, is, erm, moving...CLOSED_ASDESIGNED

Can reproduce. And trying to set them back to ignored pops up a "Category does not exist" toaster. It went away before I could get a screenshot, but it was the Games category.
-
@Benjamin-Hall Same. Here's the thing:
I also used the Games Category.EDIT: The Sidebar also does it. I assume all of them do. In case it's not clear, the watch state does not change when trying to change it.
-
@hungrier Wow that's bad. At least the old one was visible.

Same here, but...

NO_REPRO (did it on Mafia, Look at Me, One Post, Sandbox, Flages/Badges)
I did do a hard refresh after the update should've happened, since I didn't notice a toaster saying the site had updated.
-
@ChaosTheEternal Thought I had done a refresh, apparently I had not. I also did not see a toaster about the update.
After refreshing, categories can again be ignored/un-ignored.

That fixed it.
-
It is possible to change your default setting for categories in your user settings now.
This would cause all categories to be set to
Not watching
including new categories created after you changed the setting. Then you can just watch a few categories you want.
-
@pie_flavor Maybe now light theme users will benefit from my emoji inverting script
Anyway now that the new emojis are here my post doesn't make any sense (it shows the new one for both). And I'll probably need to re-un-invert some of the updated emojis as I see them
-
Emoji complaints to me, happy to make changes.
Honestly I was expecting some revisions with feedback but it was merged very quickly.

doesn't really work in color because the original joke was that nobody could tell what it was (it's )
-
@kazitor I just don't like the new
I made a transparent version of it a million years ago but didn't submit any PR (Setting up a github account not related to my real identity ). Here's that image:
I also made another one recently, but again didn't submit it anywhere

Oh it's supposed to be moving goalposts? Yeah, the old one was way better.

I thought it was some kind of sock. Now zoom-enhancing, I see it. Definitely like the old version better.
-
Alright, unless someone beats me to it I'll make it closer to the old one… later.

To thoroughly keep the 'ing going on, I'll add that the
:raisins:
just look like some sort of to me (or if I'm being generous), I don't like it at all. The:sauce:
is also not very clear, at first glance I thought it was some variation of (I think this is because of the white label and the not-really-looking-like-a-bottle). Contrary to other opinions, I think that:moving_goal_post:
isn't too bad, except for the (lack of) contrast.
-
@remi said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

FWIW I am of the opinion that the old version represented goal posts better. There's no mention of "football" in "goalposts", so that's not a problem IMO.
The old version was also much more visually distinctive. I feel like this has been change for change's sake.
-
@Zecc I felt they weren't really indicative of "goals". Did you know what it represented without hovering over it?
Clearly an unpopular change though, so perhaps tomorrow I'll do something similar to the old version but without the hideous edges.

Welcome to Discourse!
-
@Zecc I agree with @kazitor that the old version clearly wasn't obviously showing goal posts. To me it looked like some square with a triangle below and while, yes, this is what goal posts upside-down with legs below them (or someone carrying them) would look like, it definitely wasn't what I was thinking of when seeing it. In fact, it was so not-obvious that it didn't make me think of anything specifically at all.
Mind you, that's not necessarily a bad thing in itself, it's part of the private joke (kind of like you can't really guess that is
:hanzo:
and not e.g.:ninja:
, or like any emoji that shows up when typing:tro
can be used instead of ). But since the other emojis have been changed to make them closer to what they're called, I'm not complaining about:moving_goal_post:
also getting a refreshed version.I do agree on the lack of visual distinctiveness though, but I think this is mostly a contrast issue. Make the new one black instead of very-light-grey (at least the frame and movement lines, the net can stay grey), and it should be fine.

I'm pretty sure the old version referred to this:
-
@Zecc Oh right, it probably did. Still, it's even less recognizable to me (is the bottom animated one some commonly and therefore culturally highly recognizable funny picture?) this way.
I guess we're deep in the cultural divide here.
: we need to localize emojis. Depending on the area that you've filled into your profile (or some random geolocalisation stuff, for added funniness), you'd see one version or the other.
-
@remi It's possible someone has posted that animated gif before, and that's why I recognized the old version. Not sure.

Yes, make communication even more unreliable!
-
@remi
Would only work if we have an emoji delivery network (EDN)
-
The old moving goalposts were handegg goalposts. The new ones are football goalposts. Since the leading language of this software is en_gb, the choice is not too surprising.

Honestly I'd prefer that gif over any of the options. It works pretty well at emoji size:

@hungrier
Aside from being pretty much unseeable on light theme with a strong light source (like, say, an office flourescent lighting fixture) overhead. If you're gonna use that, the yellow needs to be significantly darker.

Not really. Gray and grey are both acceptable American spellings. Colour is not.

Is nobody going to point out that NodeBB is Canadian?

I was going to, but my post got frozen in queue.

Non.
-
@kazitor said in Discussion of NodeBB Updates:

Yes. Long time regulars would recognise it and were probably around when it was first created, and newer regulars can put their mouse over it.
Now we've all had to look at the unclear thing (which would be clearer if it was bigger but it's not) and see what that is.IMO the existing ones should not have been "improved" as they were recognised as they were and maybe not being the perfect representation was part of their charm.

The ones you couldn't see due to the JPEG artifacts.
