@Arantor are we talking about the first thing or the second thing?

@Lorne-Kates You could Google Image Search that picture, too.
I just refuse to mention said person on account of the fact it would summon more of his bile.
Are we talking about the guy who posted that my testicles were too small after I made a joke with a on it?

That someone is trying way too hard and we need the real Blakeyrat back, not some obnoxious pretender.

Too bad it didn't capture the URL. I might have gotten a signal boost on the new campaign.

It probably did capture the URL. It just didn't find it relevant enough to include in the small text block that's supposed to mostly just highlight the text that closely matched the search.

It's a shame @blakeyrat wasn't here for this update. Apparently it was a doozy. I'm paginated, so I didn't notice most of the bugs, I think.

Here's a thought. Why don't each of us tell Blakey over twitter that we love him and want him back?
Nevermind whether we actually mean it, it would still make a rather nice troll, don't you think?

@anotherusername said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:
this update
Sounds like it was a bit of a stinker. I missed it though (as family interrupted through a long weekend) and by the time I paid attention, it was mostly fixed. In as far as anything gets truly fixed round here. Not quite so egregiously broken? ;)
-
@dkf It was rolled back to the previous state.

Sometimes, that's the best way to âfixâ things.

And sometimes it involves a trip to the vet. That sort of fix generally can't be rolled back, though.

I would also say good computer languages (like C#) generally don't have bits where it's obvious what the coder meant but the compiler returns an error anyway.
Let me show you how to fall through a case statement... Oh wait, you can't. You'll just have to use older-style if -then-elseif-elseif-elseif-fuckyou trees.
Supposedly no since C# 7. Yay progress!

@mikehurley said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:
@Tsaukpaetra There is "goto case". C# just requires you to be explicit about it. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/06tc147t.aspx
Bookmarked!
Oooh, that's what you meant. Then C# 7 will allow for something different but equally useful.

Unless you keep them, then you can roll them all over the place.

Honestly it looks really messy and kitchen sink-ish to me in the proposed shape. And C# is already a kitchen sink as it is.

Sure it does. Almost all of the C# 7 features. Tuples as types? Fuck me, that's gonna discourage class creation where it should happen. Star-asterisk-shaped-bag-for-unwanted-params? That's gonna encourage long-ass return types instead of nice OOP.
That's what it don't like about 7. But finally useful switch is not one of them.
-
@kt_ said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:
But finally useful switch is not one of them.
The range-allowing stuff, sure, it's one of the finer VB features. But explicitly encouraging switch on types instead of polymorphism? The whole
if (person is Professor {Subject is var s, FirstName is "Scott"}).
destructuring thing that just makes things barely readable (and you gotta love that var declaration in the middle of an
is
)? Overloading saidis
operator to do... hell, I don't even know what it would be supposed to do?It doesn't simplify things, it complicates things. Even well applied it would likely be no more readable than an equivalent procedural program, and badly applied it'll be fucking black magic. Hence the kitchen sink.
That's not even to mention switch is something you shouldn't be using much in an OOP language, but it's not like C# was big on purity since the beginning, so *shrug*.

@kt_ said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Sadly this is true, though when you encounter the time when its appropriate, it's really a pain to not have it.

Are these the anonymous return types? Because I hate that idea more because of what it does to signatures than anything else.

It's not history while I'm still waiting for the master to return, yell against the defilers that run this off topic, and write more awesome rants and trolls.
-
@Maciejasjmj said in Blakeyrat pointing out NodeBB problems:

Overall, it looks like a syntactically nasty version of what quite a few functional programming languages do (to good effect) though those assume open types where all fields have natural comparisons. However, just how nasty it is depends what it does with subtypes; what happens if
person
is a subclass ofProfessor
? That's where my brain starts to hurtâŚ

Destructuring pattern match.
In Rust you can write stuff like this:
struct Point { x: i32, y: i32, } let point = Point { x: 2, y: 3 }; // Like tennis? match point { p => println!("Got a point: {}{}", p.x, p.y), _ => unreachable!(), } // Same thing as above, but destructuring match point { Point { x, y } => println!("Got a point: {}{}", x, y), _ => unreachable!(), }

That is literally the stupidest fucking idea I've ever heard.
I'd accept "I have access to (one of) the company's Twitter accounts for social media reach-out".
-
@Lorne-Kates it's actually not, given what I do for a day job... a small part of the system I manage, which does many complex things, also shares things on Twitter - and I gotta test that somehow.
-
@Arantor My condolences. Twitter is a toxic hellstew and I stay away from it as much as I can.
-
@FrostCat I don't interact with people on it. I just test that the integration works and that I can add the account and share, as a literal minimum.

To be transparent, there aren't any people on twitter anyways... ;)

Anyone else had problems with the notifications popup triggering the "Mark all notifications read" link before loading the unread notifications?
It's happened to me quite often now.
-
@Zecc I think it does that if you double click the notifications button. Super intuitive!
