Hilariously, our proxy doesn't give a shit about inbound code. Outbound, yes. Inbound, no.
Hell, in VS2015 Microsoft bumped the changed the SSL version fallback algorithm in such a way that it breaks our MITM proxy altogether (Previously, it would retry the entire connection in the event of an SSL version mismatch, now it attempts to renegotiate on a live connection. Our MITM drops the connection entirely on the first negotiation failure - and it doesn't support the current state of the art algorithms.
This means that all the stuff VS uses HTTPS for - authentication, github, nuget, etc. has been plumbed to completely bypass the proxy.

The vast majority of the time that I find something useful on SO, it's a substitute for good documentation in the system I'm working with. I can't recall it being more than a line or two. And mostly it's just a pointer to some obscure (to me) part of the API.

We use a proxy that inspects SSL traffic at our work, too. It breaks so many sites that my first attempt at resolving any connectivity issues is to see if the app/website is on SSL, and if it is, whitelist it in the proxy.
Amusingly enough it also offers single DES (56-bit) when negotiating an SSL connection with servers. Yeah, no way that could go wrong!

I always thought the idea was to read the example code on the website, understand how it works and then write your own implementation of it, not just copy random code off the internet and splat it into your codebase because what could go wrong?

Simply write your stub method...
Ask a question at StackOverflow.com or maybe try Googling the code you need. Once you have it, simply copy the code and paste it into your stub method.

Yeah, me too, and I'll do that as well with third-party control sample code if I'm borrowing it as a base to start from.
IIRC, Oracle tried the same thing as SE is doing with Java just recently and got shot down in court.
