:wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)

Hmm - Someone's trying to be cute:

Let me have some fun, pls!
Everybody here has a sockpuppet and I can't even find the password for that email-adress ;D
Filed Under: Otherwise I would have put my name onto that account
Addendum:
[12:05:28] MegaKuro: I need accalia
[12:05:33] MegaKuro: I want a bot that only replies on bug
[12:05:42] MegaKuro: and uses codinghorror messages
[12:05:44] MegaKuro: randomly

-
Awwwww, okay then
Filed Under: Would have been great and you know it!
Addendum: Do I at least get a "genius idea"-badge? ;P
-
Oh wow. Well, that's one way to ensure less bug reports...
Personally, I'm just going to wait until they get pwned by some XSS bug which we couldn't report.
-
I've found 5 TDWTF accounts that have avoided the ban hammer, I'm not going to list them here though at risk of them also being unfairly banned.
And whether or not I've avoided the banhammer, I don't intend to probe further. Toxic “community” over there and all…
-
Okay. Now that its maker has proven himself to be nothing but a gigantic asshole (AGAIN), can we finally ditch this monstrosity?
With all the IT manpower floating around here we should be able to build something nice for ourselves, no?
-
I seem to have avoided the hammer too.. Not that i'm active much anyway...
-
Okay. Now that its maker has proven himself to be nothing but a gigantic asshole (AGAIN), can we finally ditch this monstrosity?
I think it depends on whether @apapadimoulis was banned too or not.
-
With all the IT manpower floating around here we should be able to build something nice for ourselves, no?
We don't need to. There is forum software that isn't broken or run by a giant douchecanoe.

Filed Under: Was thinking about deleting the last parts as well... but I don't have enough information about that.

Me, too. WTF? I haven't said much in a while.
We didn't say anything out of line. Unfortunately we didn't save the entire thread for posterity, because this whole thing came out of nowhere. I'm at a loss when I try to imagine what was going through his head.
-
I'm at a loss when I try to imagine what was going through his head.
Not a lot, I'd imagine.
-
What is the point of a year's ban? Does he expect you all to come crawling back next September, full of remorse for your behaviour and vowing to be better members of the community?
-
I'm at a loss when I try to imagine what was going through his head.
Other evidence points to a camel already laden with straw.
-
I assume this is some kind of standard for "long ass ban".
Also since most of us have been banned without any reason, we can't better ourselves anyway.
Filed Under: Maybe 1 year is his deadline for the Discourse version 1.5 that supports big topics. He just wants to tease us a bit!
-
Does he expect you all to come crawling back next September, full of remorse for your behaviour and vowing to be better members of the community?
Signs point to no.
-
Oh, that was a selfban? I assumed @PJH overreacted. Sorry, @PJH for doubting you.
Filed Under: though this is his second selfban :D

-
Is that Sam banning himself, while telling himself to migrate off Discourse?
-
well he suspended @Codinghorror, right? I thought since @Sam was the other active Disco-Dev that updated things here, PJH just banned both at the same time...
Filed Under: It has been a hectic morning, okay?

-
while telling himself to migrate off Discourse?
No - he's saying we should migrate off it.
well he suspended @Codinghorror, right?
The second account, yes. Because someone was trying to be cute.

I understand that he dislikes us for good reason, but it's not the first time Jeff has been snippy with us on meta.d with no provocation.
I've always respected that it's a different atmosphere over there, and I've been professional and polite when reporting bugs. Jeff can't seem to separate his behaviour between this site and meta.d, and treats us with disdain at all times.
He laid into me the other week because he thought that something I reported wasn't a bug. This was another example of "not a bug", but this time with more bad attitude. I asked him to be more polite and we all got banned.

Wait, didn't

imply somebody banned coding horror?God, I misinterpreted a lot of things...
No - he's saying we should migrate off it.
I understood it the same way @coldandtired saw it. It sounds like some kind of advice (if you don't know about the selfban)
-
implicate somebody banned coding horror?
I thought that might have been the case, which is why I asked.
Then @aliceif & @PJH clarified it.
-
imply somebody banned coding horror?
I'm guessing he deleted his account. Though it doesn't show in the logs, so...uh?
-
No, according to @aliceif he is now called @End
Filed Under: nothing makes sense here... so business as usual!
-
He laid into me the other week because he thought that something I reported wasn't a bug.
As happened in this case. For some reason he took the fact that I took the desktop screenshot on my mobile as a reason to deny it was a bug, and thus moved it it UX.
The topic deletion and banning came shortly after I pointed out that desktop on desktop was identical to desktop on mobile for the purposes of that topic. The exact point I was 'd on by @zogstrip.
I'm guessing he deleted his account. Though it doesn't show in the logs, so...uh?
He renamed the account (see /t/7050). That doesn't show up in logs.

Good job Jeff follows his own advice.
Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree
You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But, remember to criticize ideas, not people.
...
Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

The same text is in both.

And why did the bug report get DELETED?
It's Jeff's method of CYA. Remember when I got banned, Jeff delete the bug report. I just asked him to provide specific data to back up his assertion and then he got aggressive. It seems that when Jeff gets aggressive, he blames the person he's mad at and bans them. Then, when he cools down, he realizes that there's evidence that he was a dick that needs to be deleted, so the thread gets mega jeffed[1].
Discourse will get at least one feature done right - spam filter!
The spam filter is actually pretty decent.
I think it depends on whether @apapadimoulis was banned too or not.
He hasn't, but then he was never really active:
Signs point to no.
Looks like somebody got a bit upset over the "Too many things" topic.
[1] Yes, it's in the discopædia.

Which is exactly why he shouldn't be involved in user interfacing. If you talk to the users, you hear a lot of the same things over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, … Some of those things will be nice to hear about because they obviously need to be fixed, others will get on your nerves because they seem nitpicky. If you can't deal with it, then hire someone else to talk to the users.

Provided you're equipped to listen to your customers, complaint driven development isn't that difficult.
Now we have a case study involving a guy who wasn't equipped.

unless we go elsewhere. An idea I am not dis-inclined towards.
hmm... I have an idea :``D

We go to that Chinese porn site?

I'm actually thinking that a rename might not be the worst idea ever...

Lol, I rarely even went there any my account is suspended. I'm glad I have a special place in Meta.D's heart
