:wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)
-
Which is totally fucking backwards, because the mods immediately get notifications of flags instead of having to read a topic. But...I guess they have their way of operating. They must be paying monies to not get the Doing It Wrong Topic Close Of Doom.
They first mention this need 3 weeks ago and it is going live soon? Or it is already live in latest?
Who wants to start a pool on when this feature shits Skype user names and personal information all over a forum that is high profile enough to get Jeff to drop to his knees to please them?
-
This assumes, of course, that they have simply discounted having access controls on certain sub-fora which would be the way I'd let the devs discuss secret shit with each other.
Well, they want to have "open" discussion, but communication of sekret info to staff. And they think that hiding this stuff in messages among the rest of the discussion is more efficient than letting the existing flag / PM infrastructure do its work.
-
No, just the dot is ignored, it doesn't affect surrounding characters
His joke. You missed it.
What @loopback0 said.
-
Oh! Oh! I got a GREAT idea!
Put all the sekkrit stuff in an invalid tag and provide a "Show raw" button that only shows up if you're a mod!
-
Actual behavior: Asked if I wanted to post it to the original topic or shadowmod queries, which I had open in another tab.
Why would anybody want to have more than one tab open? Sounds like you're doing it wrong to me.
Topic deleted.

I've intentionally logged out once or twice. It causes you to be logged out from every browser or device you were logged in from at the time. I suppose it's a security feature, but it's more annoying than anything else. It meant that I stopped logging in to TDWTF from my work PC, so I guess there were some benefits...
IIRC, it's their implementation of a security feature we asked for. That way, if you discover that your account has been hijacked and you recover it, then you just reset the password and log out. That logs out the hijacker, and Bob's your uncle.
-
I would not be surprised to see this as a real feature announcement.
-
One of us escaped the Discoban.
Said ban escapee is debating sending a message to certain people trying to explain what they have done and how badly it will come back to bite them in the arse.
Careful. I said something about that in my bio and got my account anonymized. Who reads the bios‽

Said escapee is looking to get banned too, eh?
More than one escapee, don't forget. I didn't get banned--yet--either. Although I did get a post and a like deleted.
-
IIRC, it's their implementation of a security feature we asked for.
Although if they were smart (INB4 "if they were smart they wouldn't be Jeff") they'd do it more like Google does, which presents a list of logged-in devices and IIRC lets you individually log them out.
-
The correct way would be to PM a group: the group of moderators.
Doesn't/didn't Discourse have groups? Where are they hiding?
That would be the correct way, if Dicksores allowed sending PMs to groups.
-
I must be suffering from
StockholmDiscourse Syndrome but as written in that meta.d post I can see it has some merit.FTFY
-
There are group mentions, no? Don't they expand when entered as PM recipients? Never tried, tbqh...

Which I think is what we actually asked for, instead of the shit we ended up getting.
-
No one's answered my question about what happened to groups. Is there such a thing still?
-
Group mentions are not completing... I'm pretty sure there were admins and moderators groups... so... no idea.
-
Okay, so groups exist at least for trust levels, as seen here.
https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/user-trust-levels/792
We just need to magically guess the URLs, as there are no links in the user interface.
-

Yes. For instance:
https://what.thedailywtf.com/groups/moderators
Discogroups just aren't very useful, though. Here's what autocompleting @moderators does:
@ system, @awinter, @InedoJohn, @PaulaBean, @dhromed, @boomzilla, @PJH, @galgorah, @abarker, @PJH_MOD
Oops...too many mentions!
-
Our groups (mostly useful for permissions purposes):
-
I like how tl4+ has less members than tl4
-
Which I think is what we actually asked for, instead of the shit we ended up getting.
Annoying as what we got is, I would rather have that than nothing, I guess. Don't anyone tell Jeff.
-
Showing that list under https://what.thedailywtf.com/groups/ would be too obvious, wouldn't it?
-
There are group mentions, no?
Sort of. They expand into the members when used. And I think it only works for the default groups (
@admins
and@moderators
). For example, here's what I get when I try to mention the@moderators
group:@system, @awinter, @InedoJohn, @PaulaBean, @dhromed, @boomzilla, @PJH, @galgorah, @abarker, @PJH_MOD
Don't they expand when entered as PM recipients?
@admins
and@moderators
do. Other groups don't appear to be mentionable at all.
-
Is it only after posting? Don't want to spam here so I'm not posting it.
-
You have to wait for the auto complete menu and then hit enter. Don't move on from the mention too quickly or it's just text on the screen.
-
Is it a TL thing? I'm not TL3 any more...
-
I don't think so …
Because people would never have a reason to start a PM with all mods or all admins.
-
FWIW:
https://what.thedailywtf.com/t/what-happens-if-i-mention-bots/51263
Oh look, no onebox. I'm sure there are reasons.

-
I don't see moderators, just moderator. Must be a moderator and/or admin thing.
-
I'm sure there are reasons.
One Post is restricted category that only displays to logged in users (maybe even only TL2+ ?). This was done so the new members don't get swamped with all this the moment they join.
-
What other animals have leaked in The Lounge?
I sure hope somebody cleaned that up!
-
Its a setting in the admin panel, and it defaults to off
-
According to the profile I'm trust level regular.
Now, to me, regular is a synonym for normal or default, so I would expect that to mean the rank you get without doing anything (either bad or good) special.
However, is this TL1, 2, or 3?
I also have access to the Lounge, which I believe is a non-regular user thing.

Oh look, no onebox. I'm sure there are reasons.
The post is in a One Post topic. One Post is a restricted category. Restricted categories cannot be one boxed because the one box worker process runs with no access permissions.

It's also a synonym for usual, typical, or routine. As a Regular user, you are routinely present on the forum.
However, is this TL1, 2, or 3?

TL3.

I could argue about the difference between regular visitation (i.e. frequent) and regular trust (whatever that means) but this is Discourse.
So what are TLs 2 and 1 called in the profile?
-
-
regular is a synonym for normal or default
It means you are here regularly.
Filed under: Discourse is like a laxative — it keeps you regular.

It certainly was argued.
https://meta.discourse.org/t/poll-veteran-vs-leader/19454
There was probably more talk about it at the time.

Read up:
-
There was talk about it here, too, IIRC. Not that we could do anything about it.
-
That one's only active and human TL4 or higher users.
-
And I haven't looked, but I know that at least one "higher" has a trust level less than 4.

@PJH.
-
How about @loopback0? He was TL4 at some point..?

Explanation accepted.
-
That one's only active and human TL4 or higher users.
TL4_plus also excludes sock/testing accounts. Taking all those considerations into account, there's really only 4 active human individuals in the trust_level_4 group.

the only reason you would use a forum for your bug tracker is of you wanted to argue with and be hostile with your users
