@Zecc the Norwegians refused to attack us back, so cover-up and calling the icbm a "research rocket" so keep face. Apparently, we aren't getting into NATO that way either.

rumors are swirling that the filmmakers are trying to secure cameos from all of the musicians whose songs Weird Al parodied over the years. Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Nirvana are among the names that have been mentioned in connection with the project.
I'm especially looking forward to cameos by Michael Jackson and Kurt Cobain.

As long as they don't go all guns blazing and settle for delivering the jokes deadpan, it'll be fine.

Important scientific news for beer drinkers interested in the history of beer making: the yeast currently used for making Lager beer originated in Munich just after 1600 by hybridization of two yeast species:

@boomzilla That was obviously a great performance! Hardly ever will musicians hear such a kind of applauding.
-
@BernieTheBernie Reminds me: you should play a recording of a live show during sex. Regardless of how it goes, every four-five minutes or so you'll get wondrous applause.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity That depends on what you choose to play.
Mahler and Bruckner might not be your best choices. (Mahler's Symphony No. 3 is over 90 minutes long. Most of Bruckner's symphonies are > 1 hour.)
Opus Clavicesmbalisticum by Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji was, at the time it was written (completed in 1930), the longest piano composition, at 4 hours. Michael Finnissy's The History of Photography in Sound, completed in 2001, is even longer at 5.5 hours, but it isn't necessarily intended to be performed in its entirety without interruption; the fifth section is only 14 minutes long.
Morton Feldman's String Quartet No. 2 is more than 6 hours long.
Wagner is, of course, well known for his very long operas â the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen runs some 16 hours, or so â but there will typically be applause at fairly frequent intervals during a performance. (It's almost never performed in its entirety; the four individual operas are generally performed individually, and even when all four are performed, they performances are on separate days. Still, each one individually is some 4 hours long.)
All of this pales in comparison to Organ2/ASLSP, by John Cage. The first performance, which began on 5 September 2001, is scheduled to finish on 4 September 2640. (Get your ticket to attend the exciting conclusion!)

I don't remember what thread we were discussing the situation of someone who went on vacation, and upon returning, discover that someone had broken into their house, changed all the locks, changed the billing name on the utilities, and claimed to be the rightful occupant. The discussion included the difficulty of getting the unlawful occupant to leave, including the lengthy legal procedure in France.
Anyway, since I don't remember where that was, I'll just drop this here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MQEoqEacuU
TL;DW: This law should make it easier to regain lawful possession of your home, if you happen to live in Florida. (If you do, you certainly have enough other problems; at least this one will be easier to deal with.) It sets for a procedure for getting police to assist you in ousting the squatters; no longer can they say, "That's a civil matter; take it to landlord-tenant court." And the law explicitly says that if they refuse to leave when requested by police, it becomes a trespass, which is definitely a criminal matter.
-
@HardwareGeek said in In other news today...:

It should have always been considered trespass, what the actual fuck....
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yeah, it should have, but this law makes it explicit.

Good news: regularly using the internet keeps you safe from being diagnosed with dementia.
The caveat is that the diagnosis of dementia was achieved by showing internet memes to the particpitants who were then assessed on interpreting those memes...

Also, the "Welcome aboard Frontier flight #1234 to Kingston, Jamaica" announcement? I can't remember ever being on a commercial flight that didn't include that as part of the pre-flight announcements, along with the safety briefing, so that's her fault for not paying attention.

Having seen them let my parents through while presenting each others IDs (two different stations and at different times as we were part of a large group). Yeah, I can totally see this happening.

Getting to your correct destination is an extra upcharge.

As far as I can remember, the welcome/destination announcement happens when everyone is seated, so you'd have to get up and tell a flight attendant that you are on the wrong plane, and then they have to tell the pilots to stop departure and the plane will lose it's slot. But then there's the boarding signs that tell you where the plane is heading as well, and the pre boarding messages, and the tickets for boarding... So many points must have failed for this to happen.

Still better than flying to the wrong destination.

When the wrong destination is Jamaica and the right destination is Florida?
