@loopback0 the video said something that official MS build is not free. No idea if that means they have extra code, like Google, or if it’s just some trademark stuff and an installer, or something irrelevant like that.
If I understand correctly it has telemetry and probably some non-open-source bits bundled. But it's still free for any purpose (and not as invasive as chrome).

I'll have to try it I guess. Maybe it will actually have useful suggestions for the PHP and HTML files....
There's a pretty decent choice of addons for all sorts of languages above its native support, plus stuff like Remote SSH.
Remote SSH is indeed useful. And even more so is Remote Containers. That one you give a config pointing to a Dockerfile or an image (or a docker-compose file) and some options, and it will open the project in a container. This has two uses:
- In a team it ensures everybody has the same versions of compilers and related stuff (and CI can use the same image too). So no more Joe complaining the code you checked in does not build because he didn't update node yet. It also makes setting up new people faster, because they just need to install code and rancher-desktop¹ and the rest gets set up automatically when they open the project.
- If you have projects that need different versions of node or java or python or whatever, you can keep them isolated in containers and have code open the right one for whatever you want to work on.
1 Rancher-desktop is an alternate installer for Docker now that Docker-against-Desktop requires a Docker Hub account and Docker Hub account is not free for larger companies. It also has the benefit it lets you choose Kubernetes version and whether you want docker daemon or just containerd (Kubernetes does not need dockerd any more, but there are still some incompatibilitiesi n docker-compose). And it has a Linux version.

Isn't shotspotter all sorts of shit with lots of false positives and negatives?
I don't know. I know what it does, but not how well it does it. But ISTM the error rate must be lower than human ears.
Well, no. It's outright crap at recognizing gunshots. A backfiring car has been reported as a gunshot. Humans are much better at that part. And it just gets worse if the microphones are installed indoors.
The biggest value of ShotSpotter is in the ability to triangulate the source, if you know there have been shots fired in some area. Or some other loud impulse-like noise, like in this case case the mystery booms. That's the part that's easy for a computer to do, but not for humans.

That'll depend on which language server you're using. The one that's powering Eclipse's HTML support these days seems decent, so the one behind VSCode is likely good too. They might even also be the same one; that's the point of a language server, you can share the language support without needing to adopt all the working practices.
If only the LS protocol was more... easily comprehended. It's got some very thick layers of message encoding and assumptions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't $75000 rather low for a lawyer? Especially in a major city?

@Benjamin-Hall As if usefulness for its stated purpose (not to be confused with its real purpose) ever factors into the discussion.

Real-estate lawyer. In other words, not a real lawyer. More like a legal aide.

@boomzilla in light of not upsetting fellow forumites, please refrain from using the B-word outside the Garage. It can only cause drama.
-
@Arantor What's so drama-inducing about butlers?
-
@boomzilla am I missing something? What prevents normal butlers from becoming naked? Sounds like a perk....

Some people have untreated trauma, caused by a disappointment in the past action by themselves or their fellow countrymen, in regards to the B-word.

Lack of appeal.
-
@Mason_Wheeler the other B-word in boom's post. It is a contentious word and will likely lead to ruffled feathers.

@Arantor
He can’t really help having that word in his posts though. Unless he signs in on an alt with a different name I guess

I didn't think we had any vampires around here. Though I guess if on the internet nobody knows you are a dog, I wouldn't know if you were a vampire either.

@hungrier Terry Pratchett. I don't recall which one, The Truth perhaps?
-
@PleegWat The Truth most prominently; it is mentioned in some other stories too.

I don't get it. Does the original post have "bgarlic" in it?
Discworld vampires are trying to live among people. That means they have to avoid alienating them, and that means they have to abstain from drinking B-word and promise to B-total instead. And they prefer to not even say the B-word to avoid triggering their craving.
(and no, the original post does not have that B-word either; I was making joke of the “B-word” phrase itself)

For what it's worth, I think you have a point.
If I were going to caption a news story about England having some goofy problem with "Thanks Brexit," I would do that in the Garage out of respect for people who see Brexit as the cause of a bunch of problems.

I stumbled across this recently:
I wonder what kind of misunderstanding of geography led to that particular choice of product naming.

near Frankfurt, Wiener Würstchen are called Frankfurter Würstchen, while in Bavaria Frankfurter Würstchen are a different kind of wurst...
